VISION

The Academy at Accrington Stanley want to provide home grown players for our first team squad or to provide players who can be sold on by the club to support both the running of the club/Academy. We look to recruit primarily in the Lancashire region and surrounding areas. We follow the Club Vision and are looking to develop technically, physically and tactically astute players. Accrington Stanley Football Club not only intends to further develop players technical ability and innovative skills, but also further educate players in match play including tactical awareness understanding and decision making skills. The Programme incorporates sessions on ‘Game Specific’ aspects, where the coach relates the objectives and observations from games into the session. This enables the coach to identify specific needs of individuals and the team in terms of strategies, tactics and player awareness in line with the Club Football Philosophy. The Academy Programme also provides its players with the opportunity to attain a fitness level requisite of an elite athlete and develop knowledge and understanding of diet and nutrition.

VISION CONT

The Academy Programme is designed to produce the players of the future for Accrington Stanley Football Club and with the continued development of the Academy holistic programme this will ensure it continues in the future. We believe that any player that is good enough to make the step up in the academy then they are old enough. Academy players regularly play in older age groups, the Youth Team regularly use Under 16s and the First Team will promote any player they deem good enough, regardless of their age group in the club. Dedication, Loyalty, Friendship and Teamwork from all those associated with the Academy and Club, enables Accrington Stanley Football Club to provide the avenue and learning environment for the development of players on the Academy Programme, through the Professional Youth Development Phase (League Football Education) Programme and into the Senior game of Association Football. Our responsibility to the future of this club is to give budding talent the very best opportunity to flourish; we want to make this Academy such a place where today’s talent can be the game’s future. 6

VISION CONT

The Academy at Accrington Stanley is as much about developing people as it is about developing professional footballers. As such it is important to provide players with the opportunity to travel and experience different cultures by providing a varied games programme. Trips and tours in the UK and abroad have been organised to give players the opportunity to build relationships with their peers and with staff. A tour is an ideal opportunity to test and enhance players and their levels of maturity, organisational skills and personality development. It is also believed that by giving players the opportunity to travel, train and play at a higher level can spur them on to work hard and fulfil their potential. It is planned that at least one tour or residential trip will take place each season. In 2015 a group of 38 players from the Under 11, 12 and 13 groups, along with 6 staff travelled to Paris to train at the First Team training ground with Academy staff from Paris Saint Germain. The first Academy tour abroad included fixtures against PSG feeder teams with the Accrington Stanley teams returning undefeated. In February 2016 the Under 14 group travelled to Las Vegas to compete in a tournament entered by 300 teams. The U14s played against American oppositions and teams from Mexico and Brazil.

VISION CONT

Over two seasons, 2016 and 2017, 49 players ranging from Under 10 to Under 13 have travelled to stay at the training ground of the Spanish National Team in Madrid. Here the teams trained with coaches from Getafe, Rayo Vallecano and Atletico Madrid. Both tours included training at the Atletico Madrid First Team training ground where they were also able to watch a session of Real Majadahonda, a Second Division team that shares the training ground with Atletico. The tours included games against Rayo Vallecano, Getafe and Moraleja. As well as playing Getafe, the Under 13 team competed in a tournament against the likes of Alcorcon, and other professional club of similar stature to Accrington Stanley. In 2016 the Under 16 team was invited to entre the Youdan Trophy, believe to be one of the oldest cup competitions in football. After impressive displays against Royal Antwerp, Celtic, Sheffield Wednesday and Rotterdam, the Under 16s were invited to compete again in 2017. The Under 18 team travelled to Amsterdam, funded through Erasmus, in 2016. Here they played against PSV, Ado Den Haag and FC Twente, trained with NAC Breda and had Dutch language lessons. 8
