Dear Fellow Adhesive and Sealant Industry Professional, As Chair of the ASC Board of Directors, I invite you to join me and your industry peers from across the globe at the 10th World Adhesive and Sealant Conference (WAC) in Chicago April 25-27, 2022.

I’m very excited the ASC has the opportunity to host WAC2022 as this conference is truly unique! It occurs only once every 12 years in North America and offers a valuable opportunity to network with and gain an international perspective from adhesive and sealant professionals from Asia, Europe, and North and South America.

There are so many reasons to attend WAC 2022! First, WAC2022 provides a robust educational program with more than 90 speakers from around the world who will share their expertise and insights. From new technologies and innovations, to lessons learned from COVID and supply chain disruptions, to circular economy and sustainability, the conference program includes topics designed for a diverse audience. Whether you are an industry veteran or just getting started in your career, the program includes industry relevant sessions of interest to any professional. In addition, Case Western’s Weatherhead School of Management will be leading an emerging leaders workshop you won’t want to miss.

As CEO of the largest pure-play adhesives company in the world, Mr. Owens will review the future of the industry in a post-pandemic environment and how technologies and bonding applications that were originally quite unrelated are becoming more closely integrated and even unified as they develop and advance. This growing trend presents both challenges and opportunities in the adhesives industry to leverage the new ways of working that emerged in 2020 and develop technologies that solve a range of performance challenges, including harsh environmental conditions and consumer preferences for lighter, safer, stronger, and more sustainable products. We will see how sustainability should be a key lever to increase the overall penetration of innovative solution in the adhesive industry and how we should increase even more the intimacy with our customers to take advantage of this rising trend.

Science matters to us - at 3M we care about science. We wanted to understand the public’s perception around science so we conducted a global third party study called the ‘3M State of Science Index’ and what we found is that science is largely underappreciated, invisible or taken-for-granted. People don’t seem to understand or acknowledge the role of science in their daily lives but have huge expectations for what it should deliver in the future. It is clear science needs advocates, especially since 4 out of 10 surveyed said that if science didn’t exist their lives wouldn’t be any different! It is also apparent that the relationship of science with people is complex. In fact, 85% of people surveyed admit they know little to nothing about science, but the same percent wish they knew more. Moreover, 87% of the global community believes we need science to solve the world’s problems. Nearly 60% of people interested in science say that they believe scientific advancements will benefit future generations. It was also interesting and perhaps not surprising to see that women trail men in the positive sentiment of science and almost 60% view scientists are elitists. Jayshree was appointed as 3M’s first-ever Chief Science Advocate and she will be sharing the results of this multi-year survey, what 3M is doing about it, and a call for action for all of us.

Key topics we will discuss include sustainability, digitization, innovation, supply chain resilience and talent management.

WEDNESDAY General Session Lunch Keynote Supply Chain Lessons from COVID-19 for Adhesive and Sealants® HARRY MOSER Founder & President, Reshoring Initiative® COVID-19 has revealed deadly shortages of medical products due to 90 to 95% dependence on imports, especially from China. Similar dependence is true in many key industry sectors including defense materiel. It is now clear: shorter supply chains are stronger, more competitive supply chains. We will demonstrate that shorter supply chains are also more profitable for OEM and supplier for 20 to 40% of products. Tools to identify the 20 to 40% will be provided. Examples of adhesive and sealant reshoring and FDI (foreign direct investment) will be presented.

Reshoring of adhesive/sealant intense products and how to convince OEMs to reshore more assembly will be presented.

What is the conference dress code?

To encourage a feeling of comfort and friendship, the WAC dress code is “business casual.” Business casual attire is highly suggested for the Welcome Reception & Dinner and Great Gatsby themed attire is recommended for the Closing Ceremony & Gala Dinner.

Am I welcome to attend meals?

All conference full-paid registered attendees and registered special guests are welcome and entitled to join us at the welcome reception, general breakfasts, lunches, and receptions.

Expo only attendees are welcome at the Expo Reception and welcome reception only. This registration option does not include any of the sessions, receptions, or meals.

EXPO booth staffers are registered to staff their booth during the EXPO hours only. This registration option does not include any of the meal functions or sessions.

One-day only attendees are welcome at all meals, sessions and receptions on the day of their registered attendance.

Who is considered a special guest or accompanying person?

Spouses, children, accompanying person and other non-industry guests constitute a “special guest.” Fellow colleagues and anyone working in the adhesive and sealant industry, or a related field, need to pay the regular registration fee to attend WAC2022, including all meals.

English is not my first language. Will there be translation help for me onsite?

English will be the official language during WAC. There are several translation Apps available for downloading prior to your trip. Visit iTranslate, Google Translate, or TripLingo.

The basic version is available for free on iTunes or Google Play. The WAC2022 App will also have the program schedule translated if you have an existing translation App downloaded on your phone. Keynote presentations will be shown in English, Mandarin Chinese and Japanese.
