In general, some is used in positive sentences: There are some stars in the sky. I saw something in the sky. Somebody was out there.

In general, any is used in negative sentences and questions: There are not any cakes left. Is there any food left? I did not see anything. Is there anyone out there?

But we can use some in questions when we offer or ask for something. Then we expect a positive answer: Would you like some more ice cream? Could I have some milk, please?
