from 9788203408496
In general, some is used in positive sentences: There are some stars in the sky. I saw something in the sky. Somebody was out there.
In general, any is used in negative sentences and questions: There are not any cakes left. Is there any food left? I did not see anything. Is there anyone out there?
But we can use some in questions when we offer or ask for something. Then we expect a positive answer: Would you like some more ice cream? Could I have some milk, please?
TASK a Explain why some or any is used in these sentences. There isn’t any homework for tomorrow. Would you like to listen to some music? I will get some popcorn for us. Has anyone seen my phone? Something exciting is going to happen. Somebody gave me this. I did not see anybody. b Am, is or are? Explain why. Something ... wrong. Somebody ... at the door. Some thieves ... trying to break in.
