Nouns (substantiv)

Nouns are words we use to name things, people, animals and places: house, hand, cat, orange, hour, dishwasher, brother, shop.

Most nouns get -s in the plural.

Singular (entall) Plural (flertall) a cat many cats a hand many hands a brother many brothers Words that end with a consonant plus -y get -ies in the plural. family families fly flies city cities Words that end with an s-sound get -es in the plural. bus buses box boxes sandwich sandwiches Irregular nouns a child – many children a woman – many women a man – many men a foot – many feet a tooth – many teeth a knife – many knives a wolf – many wolves
