Peter has heard Jesus’ prediction, "You will go where you do not want to go." He has heard Him say, "Follow Me." And how does he react? Like impulsive, impetuous Peter always does. The text says, "Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them… When Peter saw him, he asked, 'Lord, what about him?' " (John 21:20-21) Peter is concerned about John, the beloved disciple, the one closest to Jesus. How is he going to die? Is the same thing in store for John that's in store for me? Or is he going to receive preferential treatment? So Peter blurts out, "Lord, what about him?"
