On December 1, 2012; the first Saturday of the month, students from 5th-8th grade participated in the Montrose Christmas Parade, representing our school. Baron Albert & Ararat built the manger and Edmond Gharibian (one of the student's father's) volunteered to use his truck in the parade. The student council was on the float , and they recreated the Nativity Scene. Before they left to the parade, participants ate complimentary pizza from student council. Many students said it was very fun, and they would love to participate next year! Taleena Gharibian 8th grade
On November 21, 2012, the student council distributed candy grams bought by the students. The candy grams were sold at lunch time and after school by council members the week before for Thanksgiving. Not only did students purchase candy grams, but also parents and teachers. They were sold at $1.00 each. The total came up to an amazing amount of $582.00. We look forward to February, when we will be selling candy grams for Valentine's day.

Remember “whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did it for me” Matthew 25:40 IN THE SPIRIT OF GIVING Armenia Fund I would like to thank all students and parents who participated in this worthy cause by sending their contributions. A group of students accompanied by Mrs. Linda Kandilian presented the check in the amount of $ 1,700 to Armenia Fund on Thanksgiving Day. A sum in the amount of $ 1,500.00 from our collection was reserved for our Armenian brothers and sisters in Syria. CHRISTMAS PROJECT/ FOOD DRIVE Special thanks to all students and parents for bringing the non- perishable food for the less fortunate. The collected cans were sent to Missionaries of charity Mother Theresa’s Sisters. Your Christmas will have a special and a joyful meaning because you have reached out someone in need.

ASA Walkathon 2012: Vote for ASA – The Smart Choice! On Saturday, November 3, 2012, just three days before the presidential elections, on a beautiful sunny day, hundreds of students, parents, teachers, alumni and friends of Armenian Sisters’ Academy (ASA) arrived in school to participate in ASA’s election-themed walkathon. This was the school’s second annual walkathon, organized by ASA’s Advisory Board, to raise funds for SmartBoard technology in all classrooms. Thanks to a grant from The Dream Fund, the organization, which “inherited” The Lincy Foundation’s funds, the school had already purchased four SmartBoards for the two kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms. At a cost of $26,500 for four SmartBoards and projectors, the school needed to raise $60,000 to purchase nine more SmartBoards and projectors, to equip all classrooms with this technology. Participants came in their red, blue and orange colored walkathon t-shirts, along with their dogs, dressed and decorated in patriotic colors. More importantly, they came with their school spirit, ready to celebrate a good cause, in the fine company of friends and relatives. A reporter and a photographer from The Glendale News Press interviewed parents and students and covered the walkathon story. Photographs of the walkathon appeared in the online photo gallery of the paper. Sister Kayaneh’s photo, walking with students and parents, along with the walkathon story, graced the cover of the newspaper on Monday, November 5, 2012. After enjoying morning coffee and sweets, participants stretched, prayed, and began their walk to Crescenta Valley Park, two miles away. While at the park, adults and children alike rested, socialized, enjoyed fruit, and began the walk back to school. In the meantime, lunch preparations were being made in the school’s lower courtyard. Participants returned to school around 11:00 a.m., where the walkathon program continued with lunch and festivities. The walkathon’s top fundraisers were announced, and each received an iPad, donated anonymously by a school parent. A stilt walker, dressed in Armenian costume, entertained the kids with his juggling acts and balloon making skills. Several school parents who had been practicing secretly for weeks before the walkathon surprised onlookers with a flash mob dance. The walkathoners ate, danced, and enjoyed an afternoon of fun. They left with memories of a fun-filled school day. The walkathon raised $24,500. After deducting expenses, the net recovery will be around $21,805. With funds raised from other school fundraisers, the school will be able to install four more SmartBoards by Christmas 2012 for the two 2nd grade, one 3rd grade and one 8th grade classrooms. The school’s Advisory Board is grateful to all who participated and thank all the sponsors and participants for making this walkathon a successful one. Special thanks go our teachers and staff members who devoted their Saturday to this precious cause.

ASA 2012 Mock Trial Team Commentary
The past 35 years an amazing competition is organized by the Constitutional Rights Foundation, where over two thousand middle and high school students are engaged in law-related exercise. That exercise consists of the presentation of a pseudo criminal trial with the usual cast of courtroom characters. Each team must have a group of prosecution attorneys, prosecution witnesses, defense attorneys, defense witnesses, a defendant, bailiff, and official time keeper or courtroom clerk. Marking the fourth year, Armenian Sisters’ Academy participated in the 2012 CRF Mock Trial competition, under the helm of the two longstanding coaches English teacher William Bassett and attorney Ani Papirian. Throughout the process the team also benefitted from other guest attorney coaches and teachers, such as Saro Kerkonian and Antranik Boghokian, who lent their own special talents. The participants included Maya Malekian (role of attorney), Christianna Bethel (role of attorney), Garen Kejejian (role of attorney), Shant Papirian (role of attorney), Talar Galoustian (role of attorney), Ossana Amran (witness), Naira Marootian (witness), Talia Soghomonian ( role of witness), Arsen Markarian (role of witness and bailiff), Allen Youssef (witness), Stephanie Kelejian (witness), Raquel Ghougasian (defendant), Meghri Markarian (witness), Dalita Pasmakian (supporting witness). However, this was the year that five of the participants were nominated and honored for their outstanding performance by the scoring attorneys who presided during the competition. These five outstanding students were given the coveted award of Honorable Mention and certificates issued to them by the CRF. They are Maya Malekian, Christianna Bethel, Shant Papirian, Arsen Markarian, and Ossana Amran. We wish you great success in your futures and hope that this achievement mark the path of more to come.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK Consistent attendance and timely arrival are vital and necessary for the child to fully participate in the learning experience. Students should arrive at school by 7:55 a.m. Morning prayer is important. In addition, school announcements are usually made after prayer. Students should observe the dress code rules for regular days and physical education classes. Students should wear proper shoes for regular days and physical education time.
AN IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDER Our students’ safety is always our main concern. Therefore; we ask our parents to pick up their children on time and leave the school. Parents, please slow down when you are driving in the parking lot and make sure to park in the designated area. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
