Dear Fellow Members,

Mr. Khushi Khatwani – Member

Happy New Year !! This is what we generally repeat every year. The year 2013 was quite a comfortable year for most of us. This was quite evident from the quantum of fireworks which Dubai witnessed on the parting day to the year 2013. With that understanding let me wish you a Happier New Year 2014.

There is great news for our senior members. Those of you who have reached the age of 65, will pay only half the existing yearly club subscription. I am thankful to the Board of Trustees for having accepted this. This will encourage our senior members to continue to be associated with the club. We value their association and would like it to remain uninterrupted. The last few months have seen big changes in the Indian diplomatic scenario. We bade farewell to both the diplomats stationed in the UAE. H.E. M. K. Lokesh, the Ambassador, left for Switzerland and H.E. Sanjay Verma, the Consul General has moved to Ethiopia. Both of them had a very successful tenure here and we wish them continued progress. H.E. M. K. Lokesh brought pride to the country by becoming the first ever recipient of Order of Independence (First Class) Award conferred upon him by UAE President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The order was presented to Ambassador H.E. Lokesh in recognition of efforts exerted during his tenure to bolster the friendly and cooperative relations between the UAE and India. We have indeed reason to be happy at this recognition which also reflects on Indo-UAE relations. We welcome new Ambassador H.E. T. P. Seetharam and new Consul General H.E. Anurag Bhushan who both have taken their positions in Abu Dhabi and Dubai respectively.

Ambassador H.E. T. P. Seetharam comes with a wide experience in diplomacy, his last assignment being as Indian High Commissioner in Mauritius. Consul General H.E. Anurag Bhushan worked in Passport and Visa Division of the Ministry of External Affairs prior to coming to Dubai. On behalf of all at India Club, I extend a warm welcome to both the Diplomats and wish them all success.

LADIES COFFEE EVENINGS “It's my belief that cooking is a craft. I think that you can push it into the realm of art, but it starts with craft. It starts with an understanding of materials. It starts with an understanding of where foods are grown.” – Tom Colicchio, American celebrity chef, Co-founder of the Gramercy Tavern in New York, Craft and Colicchio & Sons Restaurants, Recipient of five James Beard Foundation Medals for cooking accomplishments.

- Live Story Telling

As a part of the Christmas special festivities, the Creative corner had a warm and cozy evening on Dec 19th with a wonderfully narrated WORDLESS story called “The Snowman” by Raymond Briggs. The story was from the book which is wordless with remarkably soft illustrations. The story starts with a little boy rushing out into the wintry day to build a snowman with a flurry of snowman-building. That night, he can't sleep, so he opens the front door and sees the snowman has come to life. The frosty fellow enjoys his tour of the boy's cozy home.

Pragti Rathore making the Snowman come alive

Soon it is the snowman's turn to introduce the boy to his wintry world. They join hands, rise up into the blizzardy air and then safely back to home sweet home. The boy pops into bed before his parents get up but when he wakes up the next morning he races outside only to find his new buddy's melted remains. The children were transported into their own snowy world and visualized making their assumptions of what happened to the Snowman. The kids were given the Snowman Toys as their Special Christmas Present to reinforce their learnings. Surely, this wintertime classic won the hearts of our little kids and kindled their minds with an icy treat. Over 15 kids along with their parents attended this live story telling session by the vivacious story teller, Pragti Rathore. 18 India Club

Excerpts from Dr. Ram Buxani’s Speech His Excellency M. K. Lokesh, the Ambassador of India came to UAE in the year 2010, in the month of May, over three years back. It was bond at first sight. When we exchanged our cards, it was amazing to see mobile number printed on his visiting card. Instantly establishing that he was accessible any time. That's true spirit of first citizen of a country. In fact, I followed him and started putting mobile number on my cards.

Unity is Strength

Yaara Dhol Bajake...

The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. Mahatma Gandhi

An enduring passion to involve in activities engaging people and to do more good work to the community has been the strength of India Club members. The Club participated in the CDA’s (Community Development Authority) National Day celebrations held on November 28 with dance performances by kids and live

drumming by a Punjabi Dhol player. The event was held at the Al Hudaiba Awards Building grounds, opposite Union House and was attended by over 150 people. The CDA appreciated the support extended and presented a certificate to the Vice - Chairman, Mr. Sunil Sawlani.

Nurturing good talent...

Let us not be satisfied with just giving money. Money is not enough. Money can be got, but others need your heart to love them. So, spread love everywhere you go. Mother Teresa India Club supported the Best Buddies UAE program by sponsoring a X’mas party at the Club’s Crystal Lounge for the kids on December 7th. The vision behind the Best Buddies program is social integration of individuals with Special Needs and their peers in regular education to meet socially in one-to-one pairs, creating the potential for genuine friendships.

To keep the body in good health is a duty... otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong & clear. - Buddha India Club in association with Aster Medical Clinic & Optica conducted a Free Medical Campaign & Free Eye Check up on latest Carl Zeiss equipments for its Members on Saturday, 11th January 2014.
