History:

ArtStew started as a small, grass-roots art ’zine for Lawrence, Kansas and its surrounding areas back in January of 2006. It was made for the local art community, by the local art community, supporting all categories of self-expression. Whether visual, auditory, or any other arrangement of aesthetics, we’ve showcased it in the magazine or on our website. Our original purpose was merely to reach out, meet, and collaborate.

Presently:

Today, the magazine’s intention is pretty much the same. Remaining dedicated to promote and inform, we are continually bringing together the creative do-it-yourselfers, collaborators, and any other artistic networkers that we can. We are helping to foster an outlet to join diverse ideas and information through discussion and presentation. Simply put, ArtStew’s goal is to help create new opportunities for art to flourish in Lawrence by bringing the artististic community together. Whether you consider yourself an artist, or just an art lover, we welcome you.

ArtStew is a ’zine in progress, with a mission to promote local contemporary artists as well as connect them to people in the community who appreciate their art. ArtStew Magazine is published by Artstew Design and Creative Arts. Reproduction in whole or part without permission is prohibited. ArtStew welcomes submissions but cannot be held responsible for unsolicited material.

Dear Reader, Welcome to the fourth issue of ArtStew Magazine. We’ve got some great local art in this issue, along with a couple non-local artists. This magazine is dedicated to local art but we do get submissions from artists outside of the Lawrence area from time to time and will include them occasionally. Please check out the changes to the website (www.artstew.org). Anyone can now submit their art links and events without having to register first (which I know can be really annoying having to remember logins and passwords), so get on the web, click on “Art Links and Events” and pass on your art info. We are in the beginning stages of Issue 5 right now, so submit your art and get it in the mag. Also, we can always use to the talents of writers and designers, so please contact me at: scott@artstew.org if you would like to help with the mag. Design or write something for yourself or a friend. All ideas are welcome. Thank you for your interest and support. Keep creatively creating. Scott Stewart Publisher

I don’t usually have a set of rules. I just go with the flow of the shoot and the model. I use a Canon 400d with a 50mm 1.8 lens and the kit lens. I also have some lighting from Alien Bees Lighting. Photography is pretty important to me. I know often people feel the need to express themselves through writing or other art forms such as painting. I express myself through photography. I get kind of antsy when I haven’t done a photo shoot in a while. I’m an Art History student at KU right now. I hope to pursue photography as a career in the future. -Kassia Meinholdt (1) Untitled (Cementscape) (3) Untitled - Detail
