Partnership with the White Cloud Foundation Artslink Queensland is delighted to announce a partnership with the White Cloud Foundation, a charity providing support and resources to Australians living with depression. White Cloud and Artslink Queensland have jointly commissioned the writing of a new theatre production for school students based on “Sarah’s Heavy Heart”, the beautiful children’s story by Queensland author Peter Carnavas. In the story, Sarah carries an enormous heart on her shoulders, a metaphor for her intense emotions. She finds that sharing her problems with a new friend eases her sadness. With someone to help her carry her heart load, she realises that it’s not so heavy after all. The production will be developed and performed in Queensland primary schools in 2014. Artslink Queensland is seeking a partner to help support the 16 productions which make up the Youth Program for a corporate or philanthropic partnership valued at $100,000. Individual Production Development or Touring Partnerships are also available at $30,000 each. To discuss these opportunities, please contact the CEO, Arthur Frame.

STUDENTS GO MAD FOR ARTS OPPORTUNITIES Sixty young people from all over Queensland enjoyed the week of a lifetime at the Artslink Queensland annual MAD Camp held at Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School from 22-27 September. The live-in camp offered an exciting mix of masterclasses with arts industry professionals, daily sessions in music, visual art, drama and dance, and backstage tours and live performances of Grease and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) at QPAC. Sixty secondary students came from regional and remote Queensland to experience opportunities they would not have had access to in their local area, including engaging with professional artists and exploring study and career opportunities in the arts. In 2013, MAD Camp was generously supported by the Curavis Fund, The Helene Jones Charitable Trust, QPAC, Griffith University, Ipswich Girls Grammar School and the Artslink Queensland Cultural Support Fund, ensuring fees were minimised to encourage wider access to this extraordinary youth arts development program. To continue MAD Camp in September 2014, Artslink Queensland is seeking partners for creative strands, starting from $5,000 contribution. Philanthropic support to provide student subsidies is also being sought. To find out more, contact the Corporate and Philanthropic Partnerships Director, Jane Frank today on 07 3254 9500.

MR RUSH ESPRESSO BAR OPENS Our new espresso bar is a social enterprise that directs 100 per cent of profits into regional, rural and remote arts and cultural projects across Queensland. Mr Rush is named after Artslink Queensland Associate Artist Geoffrey Rush who began his early career touring in Queensland Theatre Company productions with Artslink Queensland. It’s quickly becoming a meeting place for the wider Teneriffe community, Artslink Queensland staff, and the wider Artslink family. In the early stages of this venture, we are seeking support in the development of this unique Espresso Bar. Offers of financial assistance for its establishment are also very welcome.

TWO NEW ASSOCIATE ARTISTS HONOURED AT LAUNCH Congratulations to Tim Sharp and Dr Bryan Nason AM, our two new Artslink Queensland Associate Artists. This announcement was made by Her Excellency Ms Penelope Wensley AC, Governor of Queensland and Artslink Queensland’s Patron, at the opening of our new premises on 24 October. Tim and Bryan join our Hall of Fame with fellow Associate Artists – Bille Brown AM, Carol Burns, David Poulton, Deborah Mailman, Geraldine Turner OAM and Geoffrey Rush. Tim Sharp is the creator of Laser Beak Man, a quirky and colourful superhero that features in all his artwork in a humorous and clever way. Tim has fans around the globe, and Laser Beak Man now appears in his own television series on Cartoon Network and ABC television. This is a massive achievement for a young man with autism and Artslink Queensland is proud to have toured Tim’s work when he was only 16 years old. An exhibition of his work was a feature of our launch. A percentage of sales contributes to our work in regional Queensland. Grin and Tonic Theatre Company’s founding director Dr Bryan Nason AM, a theatre actor and director, was our first youth officer 50 years ago, and has had a long and productive relationship with Artslink Queensland developing professional theatre and regional productions over many decades. L-R: Associate Artists Dr Bryan Nason AM, Tim Sharp and David Poulton
