About the Summer School Now in its third year, the acclaimed National Summer School for Arts Fundraising and Leadership will run again in July 2016, and booking is now open for strictly limited places. Led by the University of Leeds in partnership with Arts Fundraising & Philanthropy, this week-long residential course for arts managers and fundraisers is led by renowned academics and senior arts sector professionals. It offers a breadth of insight, ideas and skills in how to lead arts organisations, and achieve long-term fundraising success, in ever more challenging economic times. To complement other fundraising courses that teach the ‘nuts and bolts’ of fundraising, the Summer School focuses on arts fundraising and leadership, addressing key topics such as Cultural Policy, Managing Change, Building Resilience, Cultural Leadership and Changing Business Models. As well as a week of intensive study and practical activity, the Summer School also offers time out for reflection – a rare chance for delegates to step back from the dayto-day pressures to encourage and facilitate new thinking and strategic planning. The Summer School is an accredited course with the University of Leeds, and represents half of the credits required for a Post Graduate Certificate in Arts Fundraising and Philanthropy. See back cover for more details.

Who it is for? The Summer School is aimed at managers and fundraisers with at least three years’ experience in the arts or cultural sector. It is for ambitious individuals who are looking to develop their careers as future leaders of organisations or development teams. The Summer School will also be attended by the 25 Arts Fundraising Fellows from across England. This combination of experience, bringing together the next generation of arts and cultural leaders, is central to the Summer School dynamic, and enables all participants to learn from their peers as well as the teaching team.

he course really pushed me out of my comfort zone… introduced me to T all sort of ideas, upped my aspiration. Exhausting and inspirational! Summer School 2015 participant

Course format The Summer School will be delivered through a mixture of lectures, tutorials, panel discussions, group activities, individual project work and group presentations. In addition, interactive panels and visits to nearby arts organisations will provide a unique opportunity for participants to listen to, question and network with a range of senior arts leaders.

The course has been exceptional in quality, with a high standard of theory presented in a variety of teaching styles. My aim was to learn and consolidate previous knowledge and this has been met and will feed into the future academic and professional practice. Summer School 2015 participant

Practical information The Summer School 2016 takes place at Weetwood Hall Conference Centre & Hotel in Leeds and runs from Sunday 17 – Friday 22 July 2016. As well as a full daytime schedule, participants will also need to undertake project work during the evenings. Please note, as the Summer School is an intensive learning experience, it is not possible to attend as a ‘day delegate’. The Summer School is a residential course, and delegates must be able to commit to stay onsite for its duration.

I think it is vital in this industry to meet and talk to as many coprofessionals as possible as so much relies on networking. I have left with contacts and experience that I know will be valuable in the future. I definitely feel as though I have expanded and developed my professional networks – within the academic sector, fundraising sector as well as with my peers.
