Careers

The aim of the CertHE is to prepare students for progression to conservatoire training at Honours level. However some of our Foundation students have chosen, either voluntarily or because they were not successful in gaining places at their first attempt, to enter into the profession straight away. One of our 2019 Foundation students went straight into Once on This Island at the Southwark Playhouse, a recent leaver played Aladdin in Scunthorpe, and another is working on a cruise ship playing a Disney princess. The Foundation course is also designed to help students decide whether a career in musical theatre is right for them; on occasion the answer to this is no. The skills and personal qualities developed on the course equip students for work in a huge variety of sectors.

Accreditation

ArtsEd is accredited by the Council for Dance, Drama and Musical Theatre. CDMT has provided the industry benchmark of quality assurance for professional training in the UK since 1979. ArtsEd’s most recent accreditation visit was in January 2020.

https://cdmt.org.uk/ In 2017 ArtsEd joined a group of 20 drama and musical theatre schools in creating the Federation of Drama Schools, which provides a forum for discussion across the sector and hosts a website providing information about each school’s courses for potential students. http://www.federationofdramaschools.co.uk/ In 2018 ArtsEd became a founder member of the Alliance of Musical Theatre Conservatoires. The Alliance brings together a group of like-minded institutions who collaborate and share good practice, in order to deliver world class musical theatre education and vocational training. https://amtc.uk.com/
