Welcome to a milestone season at the Arts Center! As we usher in our “Next Act” of entertainment and inspiration, we’re especially proud to celebrate our 30th Anniversary Season. This moment is more than a marker of time—it’s a tribute to the incredible journey we’ve shared with you, our loyal audiences, whose support and enthusiasm have shaped every curtain rise and final bow.

As fall settles in—with cooler temperatures and the familiar rhythm of back-to-school— there’s a renewed energy in the air. At the Arts Center, this season marks not only the beginning of our exciting new lineup, but also the return of Crescendo, Hilton Head Island’s annual celebration of arts and culture. (Check out pg 24 for details!)
We are launching our season with the captivating musical and true story Come From Away. It’s a production that speaks to the heart, and we’re honored to bring it to life on our stage.
A note of interest to those just discovering us: at the Arts Center, we don’t bring in theatrical productions, rather we produce them … that includes casting professional actors in New York City, imagining and building the sets, designing costumes and lighting, hiring the director, choreographer, and musical director, housing the actors on our beautiful island, rehearsing, and then finally offering the magic of theatre that you witness on our stage!
please: mark your calendar for our 30th Anniversary Spring Benefit Celebration on March 28, 2026, starring the one-and-only Sutton Foster. (See pg 32 for more info.)
We hope you’ll join our email list, follow us on social media, and frequent our website – artshhi.com – to stay current on everything going on!
We are delighted that you’re here to experience one of our region’s greatest cultural treasures … the award-winning Arts Center of Coastal Carolina. Thank you for spending time with us!
Now ... on to the Next Act,
Jeffrey S. Reeves President/CEO

The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina is thrilled to launch its landmark 30th Anniversary Season with the timely and deeply moving musical, Come From Away. This life-affirming production, under the masterful direction and choreography of Todd Underwood, promises to deliver a powerful and unforgettable start to a celebratory year.
Based on actual events, Come From Away transports audiences to Gander, Newfoundland, in the immediate aftermath of the September 11th attacks. When the towers went down in New York and the world changed, all of the planes in the air were grounded. In a heartbeat, 38 planes carrying almost 7,000 passengers were suddenly diverted to this small Canadian town, and in answer, its residents opened their homes and their hearts, transforming a moment of global tragedy into an inspiring tale of human kindness and connection.
Despite the events surrounding the subject matter, Come From Away is awash in good-natured humor, and has a wonderful, rousing score.
Underwood's vision for this production is rooted in authenticity and emotional resonance. “This isn't just a story about a historical event; it’s about humanity at its best,” says Underwood. “My goal is to honor the incredible generosity of the people of Gander and the resilience of the passengers. We want to bring their individual journeys and the collective spirit of that time to life on our stage with honesty and respect.”

At its core, this is not a story about 9/11, but rather about 9/12 — the day after, when ordinary people chose extraordinary compassion. It’s a compelling narrative of how a small town embraced thousands of marooned strangers, showcasing the profound power of human connection and kindness that emerged from a moment of world-wide crisis.
Each stranded traveler has a story, and in this piece written by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, we meet a great number of them as well as many of the airline employees and townsfolk.
Heartwarming and beautiful, Come From Away is a testament to the power of compassion, a reminder that even in the darkest of times, light can be found in unexpected places and in the generosity of strangers. This amazing 100 minutes of storytelling will bring a tear to your eyes (several times) but will also put a smile on your face (far more often).
Come From Away is an unforgettable journey that will resonate deeply with audiences, setting the “stage” for our extraordinary 30th Anniversary Season.
Tickets or season subscriptions may be purchased by visiting the website at tickets.artshhi.com or by calling (843) 842-ARTS (2787).

We’re delighted to announce our amazing, new 2025-2026 Theater Season! It’s an outstanding lineup of Broadway hits, featuring four incredible musicals and a hilarious new farce, all of which will be produced and created right here at the Arts Center!

The Arts Center’s “new year” kicks off with the heartwarming musical, Come From Away (September 24 – October 26). This emotionally resonant and uplifting show tells the remarkable true story of 7,000 airline passengers who were grounded in Gander, Newfoundland, in the wake of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The small town's population generously welcomed the stranded travelers, leading to a profound experience of human connection and community. With a stirring folk-inspired score, this Tony Award-winning musical is a moving testament to the kindness of strangers and a powerful reminder of hope.

The holiday season brings the magic of Disney to our stage with Frozen (November 26 – December 28). Based on the Academy Award-winning film, this spectacular musical brings the beloved tale of two sisters, Anna and Elsa, and their adventures in the kingdom of Arendelle to life. Audiences of all ages will be transported by the stunning special effects, dazzling costumes, and unforgettable songs including "Let It Go," "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?," and new music written exclusively for the stage. It’s the perfect winter treat for the whole family.

JAN 28 – FEB 22
Our winter production is the side-splitting farce, The Play That Goes Wrong (January 28 – February 22, 2026). This Olivier Award-winning play is a hilarious hybrid of Monty Python and Sherlock Holmes. The Cornley Drama Society is attempting to stage a murder mystery, but as the title suggests, everything that can possibly go wrong does. From collapsing sets and forgotten lines to missing props and actors getting injured, this ridiculously funny show is a riotous romp from start to finish.

APR 22 – MAY 24
You can’t stop the beat with our spring production of the Tony Award-winning musical, Hairspray (April 22 – May 24, 2026). Set in 1960s Baltimore, this show follows quirky teen Tracy Turnblad as she pursues her dream of dancing on local TV’s Corny Collins Show. When she lands a spot on the program, Tracy uses her newfound fame to advocate for racial integration, inspiring others and changing the show forever. With a beloved and vibrant score, Hairspray is a celebration of acceptance, individuality, and hope … not to mention great dancing!

24 – AUG 9
The summer season brings the pop culture phenomenon, Mean Girls: The Musical (June 24 – August 9, 2026). Based on the cult favorite film, this modern musical follows new student Cady Heron as she navigates the treacherous social hierarchy of high school. Cady finds herself at the top of the social food chain with "The Plastics," a group of popular girls led by the ruthless Regina George. But when she falls for Regina’s exboyfriend, Cady learns the hard way that you can't take down a Queen Bee without getting stung. This witty and high-energy musical is a pop culture sensation you won’t want to miss.
Interspersed amid these five productions are world-class presenting artists, educational programs for all ages, and free community festivals, comprising another wonderful year of top-tier arts offerings for residents and visitors. Currently, the only way to secure tickets to all shows is with a season subscription. Subscription tickets, offering the best seats at the best price, are also redeemable for the Arts Center’s Presenting Artists Series as well.

VISION:
To be a world-class organization that enriches and benefits our region through exceptional arts entertainment, education, and experiences.
MISSION:
Create, produce, and present exceptional arts experiences, events, and educational opportunities for the region in collaboration with local, regional, and national arts organizations, partners, and patrons.
For any organization, charting a bold course into the future first begins with a clear vision of how to get there. Much in the way we design the elements to produce a show and mount it onstage, it all begins with a plan
Heading into our 30th Anniversary Season was a logical time to reevaluate and revamp the Arts Center’s existing strategic plan. It arose from our commitment to adaptability and foresight, ensuring we proactively respond to market shifts, technological advancements, and evolving audience expectations.
At the Arts Center, we recently undertook this process with purpose, crafting a plan over a ten-month period that reflects our

shared vision for the future. It’s not merely a document; it’s a living guide that will shape our programming, partnerships, and priorities over the next three to five years.
Led by SCORE mentors David Gray and Sandy Leath, the process lasted from September 2024 to June 2025, convening for monthly meetings with the Strategic Planning Task Force.* The plan has been a collaborative endeavor, enriched by insights from stakeholders at every level. We collected data via two staff and patron
This plan is our promise—to our patrons, our artists, and our community ... It's a reflection of who we are and who we aspire to become.

surveys as well as from ten separate in-depth focus groups, moderated by consultant Lisa Black and comprised of community partners, patrons, board members, and staff.
The invaluable feedback we received has shaped our understanding of both challenges and opportunities, ensuring our strategies are grounded in real-world perspectives. Simply put, we listened.
“This plan is our promise—to our patrons, our artists, and our community—that we’re building a future rooted in creativity, inclusion, and impact,” says Jeffrey Reeves, Arts Center President/CEO. “It’s a reflection of who we are and who we aspire to become.”
The culmination of this rigorous process provides the Arts Center with a three to five-year roadmap, which we’ve deemed “The Next Act.” It not only defines crystalclear objectives and actionable steps but also articulates our renewed mission and vision (see inset box). The Next Act further reflects our dedication to excellence, integrity, and sustainable practices, setting the stage for a bright future where we continue to thrive and deliver exceptional theater and programming to you, our audience.

The Second City is throwing the ultimate comedy party on Monday, October 13 at the Arts Center and you’re invited! This comedy/improv show celebrates 65 years of legendary laughs!
The Best of The Second City: 65 Years of Funny brings together hilarious songs, unforgettable characters, and iconic sketches written by comedy greats like Tina Fey, Bill Murray, Catherine O’Hara, Keegan-Michael Key, Stephen Colbert, and so many more. Now, these classics are reimagined and brought to life by the funniest live comedy performers working today.
The Second City is not just a comedy club; it’s a veritable Ivy League for improvisers and writers. What began in 1959 as a small, experimental theater has grown into a global institution. The simple premise—a cast of performers creates scenes and characters in the moment, guided by audience suggestions—has been refined and passed down through generations of comedians.
What ties them all together is a fearless approach to performance. The Second City teaches its performers to be brave, to fail quickly and brilliantly, and to listen more than they speak. It’s an ensemble-first philosophy that prioritizes the group's comedic discovery over individual glory. Their touring shows are built on this same foundation.
The show is a mix of time-tested, audiencefavorite sketches, but the real magic happens during the improv segments. With a single word or phrase from the audience, the performers build entire worlds and characters on the spot. It's a high-wire act with no safety net, and it’s a chance for the cast to connect with the community in a truly unique way.
Enter the magic of improvisation. The cast will likely riff a sketch about the island’s famous golf courses, a song about the retirees who call the Lowcountry home, or a scene that pokes fun at the specific quirks of life in South Carolina. The laughter that follows isn’t only at the jokes; it's at the shared understanding and the feeling of being in on the fun.
This is an opportunity to experience the art of improv up close and shout out a suggestion and see it transformed into a hilarious sketch right before your eyes. The 65th Anniversary Celebration of Second City isn’t simply a show; it’s a living piece of comedy history, and when you come to the Arts Center on Monday, October 13 (4:00pm & 7:30pm), you’ll be front and center for it all!
Tickets or season subscriptions (which include presenting shows like this one) may be purchased by visiting the website at tickets.artshhi.com or by calling (843) 842-ARTS (2787).
