Supporting the mission of Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) and the pedagogical needs of the Communication, Media and Theatre Department, Stage Center Theatre (SCT) provides a professional application of theatre craft by producing challenging, dynamic and intersectional stories that drive the work of the United States and global theatrical communities. SCT storytelling centers around crucial societal questions, reflects our campus identity, and provides our audience with electric, living experiences that propel conversation, move the soul and enliven the heart. In doing so, SCT endeavors to be an expressive home for campus and community, a safe, diverse, and inclusive artistic environment, and a community beacon that underscores the pursuit of social justice in Chicago theatre and beyond.

"Hundreds and Hundreds of Stars" by Sandra Delgado
Nov. 14-16 & Nov. 20-22, 7:30 pm
*Nov. 16 will be live streamed Nov. 23, 2 pm
Directed by Guest Artist Denise Serna. Produced in partnership and
collaboration with Teatro Vista. Like millions of Americans, Clara’s days are consumed with juggling work and family. Recently divorced, she’s taking care of her tween-age daughter, her aging father – and paying alimony to her under-employed ex-husband. But in the midst of all that stress, she’s got something to look forward to: a long planned trip to Europe with her daughter Stella. In preparation, Clara, who immigrated to the US with her family as a child, decides to apply for full citizenship. She wants to be able to stand in the same customs line as Stella. But when her citizenship application is flagged, it sets off an unfathomable series of events that threaten to force her out of the only home she’s ever known. Continuing on Stage Center's collaboration on this play on campus and in our thINKtank series in 2024 alongside our partners at Teatro Vista, one of the nation's leading centers for "multidisciplinary artists of color," this production marks SCT's second consecutive partnered production with a vital Chicago company. Gorgeous, groundbreaking, timely and provocative, HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF STARS asks challenging questions about our country’s most fundamental values.
Please stay tuned to our website and social media for info regarding scheduled post show discussions following our performances!
SPRING 2025
"Witch"
by Jen Silverman
*Rights Pending*
April 17–19 & April 23–25, 7:30 pm
*April 19 will be live streamed April 26, 2 pm
Directed by CMT Faculty Member Dan Wirth. A charming devil arrives in the quiet village of Edmonton to bargain for the souls of its residents in exchange for their darkest wishes. Elizabeth should be his easiest target, having been labeled a “witch” and cast out by the town, but her soul is not so readily bought. A darkly comedic retelling of a Jacobean drama, and a biting work by a vital playwright, this subversive fable debates how much our souls are worth when hope is hard to come by.
We'll have a number of engagement opportunities both in our classrooms and at the theatre that will be announced early this fall.
