A M A N I K A B L E And in the vastness of the blue waters, there is where he could be Seeking vengeance to mankind as he drowns them to the sea.

The sea is his home and the raging waves are his sleeves. With a spear he commands and the waters obey. Amanikable was one of the lesser deities that supported Bathala in his Kawalhatian. He is the member of Old Gods which is a race of ancient and unimaginably mighty beings. As a result of his inheritance from this race, he possesses limitless power.

He is mindful of the multiverse and the dimension beyond it. Amanikable was known as the ill-tempered monarch or ruler of the sea. His enmity for mankind sprang from the rejection of his love by a woman named Magan-

da. He swore vengeance on humans by dispatching a violent storm to destroy and drown their vessels in the sea.

If goodness is a being, it would probably be a she An epitome of hard work and labor, forever she will be.

She wears the colors of the earth. Brown for hard work and generosity. Green for kindness and nature, and white for goodness. Idiyanale is one of the lesser deities that resided with Bathala in the heavens. She served as an assistant to Him and had a very distinct role.

Idiyanale is the Goddess of Labor and Good Deeds. The user who possesses this power can turn into a Labor Deity, a goddess who is related with working labors and good actions.

She married Dumangan, the deity of bountiful harvest, and later she was blessed and gave birth to Dumakulem and Anitun Tabu.

In this boundless world, we tried so hard to look for everything But fear not for she knows where are the lost things.

Like a string of lost things connected into her veins, she always finds a way to retrieve it.

Like a lost star in the vastness of the universe, she collects it one by one and aligns it. Anagolay is the Goddess of Lost Things. She is an emblem of light that guides people whenever they are lost. Anagolay’s ambience pervades everything, which is why she is able to locate misplaced objects and people. She believes in equality and never uses her power to take advantage of anyone. Anagolay is the only daughter of the two major Tagalog deities–Ikapati and Mapulon. When she blossomed into a woman, she married the hunter named Dumakulem. As the time went by, she gave birth to two more deities, Apolaki and Dian Masalanta, the Gods of Sun and Lovers.

“The burning rage of fire is bound to drive his foe ceasing, Fear not, he is clearing up the way, protecting and leading.”

A soaring spirit – fuel with fury and bravery in the battlefield is all he is. Illumines from the sky everyone bows down to his very presence as the sun god. Apolaki is debatably the Filipino counterpart of the Roman god, Mars, but he is mostly known as the patron of warriors. Sharing the same qualities as Aring Sinukuan, the Kapampangan sun god of war and death, the early people in Pangasinan have claimed that Apolaki talked to them. Apolaki was the son of Anagolay and Dumakulem, and also the brother of Dian Masalanta, the goddess of lovers.

The sanctuary and love is found in her as she warmly holds women in their hardest time. Succor to help bind the hearts of people loving, and finding each other. Dian Masalanta is the goddess of love, conception, and childbirth and the protector of lovers. She is arguably the Filipino counterpart of Aphrodite, the patron goddess of beauty. To ensure successful childbirths, she is honored by offering. The patron goddess is the brother of the sun god Apolaki to parents Anagolay and Dumakulem.

h a i k “Within the tempting tides of the ocean he knew, The danger that lies ahead he keeps, for everyone to sail too.”

Colliding in the waves of the ocean, no storm could ever conquer the god, Haik. He prevents anyone from being harmed by any accidents the sea could cause. Haik is the god of the sea who protects travelers from tempests and storms. He is the Tagalog sea god, whom the natives invoke before all sea-voyages. Haik is usually honored by travelers by offering for a safe and successful voyage.

S I T A N Therefore, be wary with your deeds on Earth.

Really shouldn’t tumble for his deceits or you’ll be tortured in the underworld.

From mortal deeds to tormented souls, Sitan is the chief deity who rules Kasanaan/ Kasamaan, a place of punishment for evil sinners and a counterpart to Maca, a place of eternal peace and happiness. Sitan is the deity of evil and punishment. Vicious Sitan encourages mortals to sin with the help of his four disciples and tortures them indefinitely once they enter Kasanaan.

m a n g a n g a u a y Unbeknownst to you is a malice healer and a killer.

From a disease to a hellish demise, she will make you suffer.

Mangangauay, the mortal agent of Sitan responsible for disease occurrence, is a wicked shapeshifter who wore a skull necklace and could kill anyone with the use of her magic wand. She would occasionally transform into a human and roam the countryside as a healer. She could prolong death for months by tying a serpent to her patient’s waist, which was thought to be her true self.

There exists her lethal charms, Don’t succumb to thy presence, for she truly does harm.

Hukloban possessed the ability to transform herself into any form she desired. She is a pretentious healer that could kill anyone. She is also a mortal agent of Sitan and is thought to be more powerful than Mangangauay because she can kill anyone simply by raising her hand. However, if she wanted to heal those who had become ill as a result of her charms, she could do so with ease. It was also claimed that she could destroy a house simply by stating her intention to do so.

A D L A W From heaven’s ether, he gleamed so bright- ‘twas the moment he knew, he was over for the night.

Bold as the sun, Adlaw is one of the children of Lidagat and Lihangin. His words seemed to be an ode- a sinful creed that everyone desires. His eyes were like gold rushes, enthralling the evanescence of bliss.

He was destined to be a prince of the universe; the light in the darkness, though to shine amidst such terror was misery to him as he gleamed infinitely in untimely frost.

M A N S I S I L A T For once, a dreamer woke up from a paradox.

It was then, she knew, that love would always be a lifetime curse.

On an iridescent cold night, there she goes with her curse. For her, the idea of spring, the stillness of the night, flowers in bloom, and the warmth of having someone, was nothing but a memoir of misery. Everyone fears her, as her words are like stings on a fiery piste. Her laugh brought shivers- smothered upon the hindmost touch. And so, when you hear her name, with the unfamiliar scent of lilies along with the obscurity of divinity- fear not, for there is nothing dreadful of her than falling in the trumpery tale of love.

M A N G K U K U L A M One glimpse of her beauty from the distant star mesmerized me—like magic, it deceived me.

Between those nonchalant cries is the sorrow of a monster who traded its soul for ease and instead found hell. Beyond the flames on her eyes, she clothed herself in-ears like the putrid hide of the decaying beasts of the abyss- in the essence of filthiness was a weeping soul longing for salvation.

B A R A N G A W He who represents good fortunes and victories, A bringer of hope amidst wars against thy enemies.

A rainbow deity beloved by most associated with luck and triumphs in battle. It was believed that the appearance of the rainbow during remarkable occasions would signify good omens and luck for those who were fortunate enough to witness this phenomenon. Aside from bringing great fortune and victory to people, he’s also entrusted with a job of guarding the rainbow and transporting the gods from Ibabawon to Earth to visit their people. As recalled in the tales, he adored a mortal named Angga who was soon cursed to be a creature called anggitay (female centaur) by the goddess of greed and vengeance. He took pity on her and provided her shelter at the end of the rainbow and the power to ride it.

B U L A N Amidst the darkness that cloaked the world as nighttime befalls, An alluring moon deity that provides guidance for those who got lost.

A moon deity that was prominent because of her ethereal beauty. She is the daughter of Bathala to a mortal woman. She’s also the sister of Apolaki, the sun god and Tala, the goddess of stars. When Bathala died leaving no will behind, Apolaki claimed their father’s throne while Mayari insisted on having equal rights of ruling the Earth. They both fought each other with bamboo clubs resulting in Mayari losing her eye. Apolaki realized what he had done and finally agreed to let Mayari rule but at different times.

Mayari reigned during nighttime whereas her light is dimmer from the loss of her eye.

B u r i g a da n g Pa da S i n a k l a n g B u l awa n “You prayed to her wanting rivers of diamonds and rings Wealth is given to those who do good and misfortune to those greedy thieves.”

She is both worshiped and feared at the same time. Burigadang Pada Sinaklang Bulawan loves punishing greedy people and curses wrongdoers for the rest of their mortal lives. Her mere breath can evoke emotions of greed and jealousy to a mortal and through this she was seen as an avenger goddess, who dispenses punishment to those who are greedy, especially thieves.

LINTING HABUG HABUG As blinding and quick as the flashes of lightning befits his vehement temperament, A tumultuous deity of lightning who strikes fear and presentiment.

Little is known about the mad deity.

But he was infamous for being the god of lighting that can kill people with his look and shouts in anger. He yields the power of lightning and like his domain, his temper is quick and violent, often resulting in death and striking fear to our ancestors whenever lightning strikes.

In the bowel part of the earth’s surface, there lies creatures of the dark whom you should never interfere. They are spirits to which never give mercy to anyone. Idalmunon are underground spirits who will do you harm.

Tungkung Langit “In this vast chaotic cosmos, he created a world yet that world wasn’t enough for the love of his to return in arms for him to hold.”

The world begins in a form of confusion—everything was shapeless and formless. But Tungkung Langit was diligent enough to create order out of chaos. He is a husband of Alunsina and it was said that they had a quarrel. Alunsina left and that made Tungkung Langit devastated, he did everything for her to come back but she never did. The rain they see during the wet season is Tungkung Langit’s tears and the thunder is his voice, sobbing or calling out for Alunsina to come back.

L A O N “from the mountains of Kanlaon she rose, since ancient times, she hovers in plain sight, protecting her groves”

She is Goddess from Mount Kanlaon, who has been worshipped and praised by people, offers a prayer to a variety of invisible things. An ancient goddess who takes the Visayan Region leads people to their beliefs by calling her “diwata”. Our forefathers had faith in her as she reappeared in the afterlife.

Hence, Laon, on the other hand, seeks her privilege to help her people and pursues her belief in reincarnation.

She also offers prayers for her people to have their own beliefs that a Goddess like her exists in a specific place.

But Laon didn’t disappoint her people by what she ought to be, and all her efforts were centered in the midst.

Laon, herself, pursued her way to make changes in the small village of Panay, but people died without any gold enough to save her people, and even some of the relatives of each family was also devastated that even hem couldn’t save their loved ones nor sacrifice everything to save them. As time goes by, people in the Visayan Region tend to pursue Laon’s wishes and hopes for her people, but eventually women can’t conceive of bearing a child. On the other hand, young children did not have an afterlife matriculation; instead, they were buried about nine times until they reached their rebirth. With this, young children were buried in coffins the size of grains of rice.

m u n s a d b u r a l a k aw “he, who wields power over mortal men, controls the world in his very hands” Munsad Burulakaw is known to be a deity by his own that is being feared by eveyone. He lives in the sea that guards and blocks in the highest order of Tungkung Langit. He has the right to commend people by their wishes in entering his kingdom without being warned. Munsad Burulakaw treats his people to be fierce and wise during the ancient times. The Visayans believe that Munsad Burulakaw is a high and mighty type of God that serves the right of people to conduct principles and beliefs. With this, Munsad Burulakaw vow to himself, “I am the God of the Sea, feared by people and men. Who dares go in my King will pass through me.” In the end, Munsad Burulakaw states this as a promise and pursued his life for being feared and mighty for his people. Hence, men are feared to be dominant and surpass his abilities for those people who conduct his rights and privilege for having a role that condemns his oath to his people.

P A G S A B I H O N “Take heed of your words lest you speak of he-who-must-not-be-named.

Be careful or the worst is to rip your tongue out of its cave.”

Often tabbed as a ruthless deity, but for some, he is simply a disciplinarian. He may be worshipped for his magnificent tyrannical ways to command lowly beings. But to many, he is just an oppressor. There’s nothing more to say about this atrocious deity for most have spurned their heels the moment he is spoken of. Any living soul who calls for his existence is soon silenced to depths. No one dares to say his name, for he is someone— who-must-not-be-named.

S A N T O N I L Y O “believe in him and he shall s hower you with graces, from his noble hands you will be eased with greatness” Santonilyo is both an old and a new god to the Visayans. He is worshipped as one of the spirits in the community, and when the Spanish came, this deity evolved and took on the name derived from the Christian St. Nino. In ancient times, each community had their very own deity, with different names, who was supposed to give blessings and abundance to a family or a society.

These spirits are usually an old ancestor who was known to have lived a virtuous life when they were alive, and because they were known, they were venerated after death. Each house in ancient Visayas was to carry a wooden “larawan” (wooden idol) with tusks to whom the family paid honor and pag-anito (worship) daily to ensure a continuous flow of blessings flourished within.

Beguiling are the ways it creeps in your grace.”

Nagmalitong Yawa Sinagmaling is an ancient Visayan myth goddess who is born out of a night flower. She is infamous for rousing lustful emotions of men around her. She is the goddess of lust, seduction, and demons.

She is often portrayed as a deity with alluring beauty and no mortals nor immortals could refuse to yield on her charm. She is a temptress, often delineated as a goddess who bewitches men wandering alone in the forest, only to never return. Her name means “beguiling demoness, bedazzling goddess,” capturing her as a malevolent deity and a benevolent goddess all in one. Her benevolent side, however, is unbeknownst to most people for her name denotes evil and the beauty she holds is akin to sin and danger.

PA M U L A K M A N O B O “Ye creator of land and seas.

Hail thee! Hail thee!

Ye creator of men and earth.

Hail thee! Hail thee!”

The supreme god of Mindanao deities is Pamulak Manobo. An illustrious being in Bagobo myths which is in charge of all creations. He is believed to have canvassed the universe with his hands. He controls natural occurrences— rains, earthquakes, and clouds. When rain happens, Pamulak Manobo is said to be spitting or throwing water from the heavens.

Analogous to his Luzon and Visayan counterparts, this great Bagobo god is also abetted by low-ranking deities— the gods of war, his wife Darago and Madaragan who live inside Mt. Apo; the god of agriculture, Tarabumo and; the bad spirit who is fed on the flesh of the dead sketched as “huge beings with curly hair, big feet and long nails, small arms and possessed two big, pointed front teeth,” Buso.

L U M A BAT A terrific hunter who hunts an elusive deer, Returning home, he killed his father.

The ruler of the sky. He was a terrific hunter hunting an elusive deer is his goal together with him is his dog. Despite having an unpleasant attitude he was not an easy quitter. During his wandering in the woods, he became old yet he was ostentatious to show his power. Going back to his town, he killed his father.

He became avaricious of power after knowing the effect when he killed his father. He was also manipulative, and he tried to manipulate his sister to join him in heaven. The refusal of his offer leads the two deities to an unending quarrel.

T u g l ay a n d T u g l i b o n From heaven, they are made, Got banished because of a cunning snake, Tuglay and Tuglibon are called the most prominent gods and goddesses of ancient Bagobo Culture. Tuglibon was hard-working, but she was a goddess who was easy to deceive and short-tempered in the other side Tuglay was a deity who loves Tuglibon and was willing to give up everything to be with his lover. They are said to be the maker or the co-maker of humanity. Jocano’s Outline of Philippine Mythology said that the deities were responsible for the births, marriages, language, and customs of the tribe and classified as the assistant of Pamulak Manobo.

With her deceiving and hypnotic eyes, she can surely woo just about anyone, into committing an immoral sin. She is one of the Manobo deities, with impure and evil intentions, set to cause chaos in relationships. Tagabayau is a goddess who passionately incites people to engage in incestuous love and marriage. She is a deity known to be mischievous in her own ways. Compelling as her beauty, no man can ever stray from her unholy enchantments for committing infidelity.

MEBuyAN The ugly duckling of Filipino goddesses, She owns many breasts, and she nurses the soul of the babies.

Mebuyan was an ugly deity, the goddess of the underworld. After she declined her brother Lumabat’s offer, she decided to live in the underworld. Wherein she rules a place called Banua Mebu’yan (Mebuyan’s town). She welcomes the soul of the dead Bagobo and gives them comfort before entering the Gimokudon, the Bagobo equivalent of the underworld. Despite having many breasts, she was kind and loving. She didn’t care about her looks, and she only prioritize the hungry soul of the dead babies. She was the total opposite of his brother, Lumabat. A goddess who gives peace, and happiness to the dead before their judgment.

AG K U I “she, with those bewitching sultry eyes and enchanting lips, her enthralling sensual hips, you won’t be able to resist” Cunning as reptile eyes, her skin gleaming like snake skin under moonlight. She is a Manobo deity who is set to entice men into practicing an ungodly act. Agkui is a diwata known to be someone who urges men to indulge in sexual excesses.

With her evil intent to spread the sickness of being lust-driven, you will surely fall smoothly into her palms. She can lure you into sinning without even lifting a finger. Her face and hour glass-like figure will leave you insatiable and grasping.

TA G M A S A L A N G I T “he who breathes life, protects and rules from the sky, “from which he comforts the sickly, with his hands you will be saved” From his breath, he exhales protection for the people. When his hands are raised, your life that’s at stake will be protected with all he has. He is a deity who emerged from the vastness of the sky to guide the Subanuns of upper Zamboanga. Tagma-sa-langit, is a god and protector of the sick. Fear not, for even if you are frail and weak, he will be there to guard your health and mend your depleting life.

Batha l a ng Mayka pa l “he who rules over all beings, from above he peers, the all seeing eye, behind the lightning strike” He is the hand who weaved all beings into life, the creator of all things. He is also known as Abba, this highest-ranking deity.

He is described as “may kapal sa lahat,” or the creator of everything. Derived from the Sanskrit, “bhattara” which means “noble lord.” He resides in his abode, far up on the limitless sky called “Kawalhatian”. This deity looks over mankind with a tight gaze.

Bathala is pleased whenever people follow his rules and do good with their deeds.

But beware, because this powerful creator can also be cruel to those who disobey or sin against him. Whenever someone goes against his rule, he sends lighting and thunder as a punishment, leaving sinful men to perish.
