2 DEGREES FESTIVAL 1-9 JUNE 2019

Artsadmin and the environment We believe that artists and arts organisations have an important role to play in exploring, communicating and taking practical action on issues around climate change and the environment. 2 Degrees Festival is just one of Artsadmin’s environment-focused artistic projects and it is also part of an EU-funded collaborative project called Imagine 2020 exploring art and ecology. Find out how we make our projects and building, Toynbee Studios, more sustainable: artsadmin.co.uk

Discussion & Residency XAVIER DE SOUSA AND ANDRE NEELY IN DISCUSSION Wednesday 5 June, 7.30pm, Free Toynbee Studios

How can we fund art without compromising our values? In this discussion and workshop facilitated by Culture Unstained and Platform, artists are invited to explore how they can take a stand when faced with an offer from an unethical funder. The workshop uses real-life examples to highlight dilemmas, suggest strategies and explore opportunities for collective action.

Xavier and Andre’s residency explores how climate protest and performative action can lead to domino effect replications. Throughout the festival, the artists invite audiences and experts alike to contribute to their research. Join this discussion with special guests and hear more about climate action and the different ways we can all tackle its urgency.

Performance VIRTUAL MIGRANTS AND NUMBI BREATHE! Sunday 9 June, see website for time and location

This illustrated talk explores the art of direct action in Notre Dame des Landes, France, where a 50 year long struggle against the building of an international airport is ongoing. You are invited to hear the stories of creative resistance from local farmers and villagers, activists and naturalists, squatters, artists and trade unionists as they continue to occupy the ZAD (the zone to defend).

The history of struggle, resistance and community in east London is rich and vibrant. Yet perhaps now more than ever, our communal spaces are under pressure. Breathe! uses protest performance to explore the privatisation and commodification of these internal and external spaces.
