CRUISING FROM PRAGUE TO BERLIN ABOARD THE ELBE PRINCESSE

Gloria Vanderbilt (1924-2019) was a known socialite, model, actress, writer and fashion designer. She was also an accomplished artist. Born into a wealthy and famous family, her turbulent life became a focus of media attention when her paternal aunt, Gertrude Whitney, founder of the Whitney Museum, claiming her mother unfit, gained custody of ten-year-old Gloria. Her artwork and prints for sale were first exhibited in 1948, but her career centered on modeling, acting, and clothing design.

Throughout four marriages, four children (including Anderson Cooper) and varied careers, she continued to paint. Her paintings were an inspiration for her popular designs in textiles and fashion.

This incredible journey begins with a two-night stay at the incomparable and centrally located Four Seasons Prague. The eight-night river cruise down the Elbe aboard the all-inclusive Elbe Princesse embraces the broad sweep of history across this region from Bohemia to former East Germany and embraces stunning sites along the way. Among the highlights are Prague Castle, a sprawling 9th-century complex that has served as the seat of power for kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman emperors, and presidents of the former Czechoslovakia; the Wittenberg Church where Martin Luther posted his 95 Reformation Theses; and, Potsdam’s whimsical Sanssouci Palace and Gardens, the summer residence of Frederick the Great, notable for the numerous temples and follies within.
