นิสิตคณะอักษรศาสตร์ได้รับรางวัลรองชนะเลิศอันดับหนึ่ง จากการเข้าร่วม การแข่งขันกล่าวสุนทรพจน์ภาษาอังกฤษในที่ชุมชนระดับชาติ ประจ�ำปี 2561
ภาควิชาภาษาอังกฤษและคณะอักษรศาสตร์ขอแสดงความยินดีในโอกาสที่ นางสาวบุญญวาสน์ มันตานนท์ นิสิตชั้นปีที่ 1 คณะอักษรศาสตร์ ในความดูแลของอ. Edward Makoto Johns อ.ดร. ปรีณา แข่งขัน และ อ. Jennifer Elaine Goodman ได้รับรางวัลรองชนะเลิศอันดับหนึ่ง จากการเข้าร่วมการแข่งขันกล่าว สุนทรพจน์ภาษาอังกฤษในที่ชุมชนระดับชาติ ประจ�ำปี 2561 รอบชิงชนะเลิศ ภายใต้ความร่วมมือระหว่าง กระทรวงศึกษาธิการและสมาคมการพูดภาษาอังกฤษ (ประเทศไทย) ในวันที่ 30 มีนาคม 2561 ณ โรงแรม เดอะสุโกศล กรุงเทพมหานคร

‘จบมาแล้วจะท�ำงานอะไร’ เป็นค�ำถามที่น่าสนใจ โดยเฉพาะกับอาชีพการงานสมัยนี้ที่มหาวิทยาลัย ต้องปรับตัวเพื่อก้าวให้ทันความเปลี่ยนแปลง และงานราชการก็มิใช่ความมั่นคงเหมือนดังรุ่นพ่อรุ่นแม่ อีกต่อไป เราจึงได้เห็นเด็กยุคใหม่ประกอบอาชีพเป็นนายของตัวเองมากกว่าการเข้าสู่ระบบ จ�ำนวน แรงงานความต้องการยังคงมีอยู่ก็จริง แต่ทุกวันนี้สถิติเด็กจบใหม่ตกงานมากเป็นประวัติการณ์ เราจึง ต้องย้อนกลับมาถามตัวเองกันใหม่ว่า ‘จบมาแล้วจะท�ำงานอะไร’ หรือลองถามใจของเราดูว่ารักและ ชอบในสิ่งใด อยู่กับอะไรแล้วมีความสุข เหมือนที่ฅนอักษรฯ ของเราฉบับนี้เป็นและท�ำควบคู่กับงาน ประจ�ำอย่างมีวินัยและน่าเอาเป็นแบบอย่าง ปาณิศา ไตรภพ ศิษย์เก่า BALAC รุ่นที่ 6 ซึ่งนอกจากงานประจ�ำที่ท�ำอยู่แล้ว เธอยังแบ่งเวลามาท�ำ ตามความฝันของตัวเองได้ส�ำเร็จกับการเป็นนักเขียนนิยายภาษาอังกฤษ Wolf Town ผลงานเล่มแรก โดยใช้นามปากกา Jett Valmond ซึ่งวางจ�ำหน่ายใน Amazon อยู่ขณะนี้

BALAC สร้างผลกระทบอย่างไร ในห้องสอบสัมภาษณ์เข้า BALAC เรายังจ�ำได้ดีว่าอาจารย์ ผู้คุมสอบถามว่าอยากจะได้อะไรจากคณะนี้ ซึ่งเราได้ตอบ ไปอย่างมั่นใจว่าเราอยากจะได้แรงบันดาลใจเพื่อที่จะเขียน หนังสือพร้อมยื่นนิยายที่เราเคยเขียนเป็นภาษาอังกฤษตอน สมัยม.ปลายให้พวกท่านได้ดู การเป็นนักเขียนเป็นหนึ่งใน ความฝันของเราตั้งแต่วัยเยาว์ และเมื่อได้เข้ามาเรียนคณะนี้ ไม่เพียงจะท�ำให้เราไม่ผิดหวัง แต่กลับแสดงศักยภาพเหนือ ความคาดหมาย ให้แง่คิดที่น่าสนใจมากมาย ล้วนกระตุ้น ความคิดและเปลี่ยนมุมมองของเราที่มีต่อโลกอย่างสม�่ำเสมอ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นทฤษฎี คตินิยม ค�ำวิจารณ์ การตีความ หรือกรอบ ความคิดใดๆ ก็ตาม ก็สามารถน�ำมาใช้แต่งแต้มให้กลายมา เป็นเรื่องราวได้ทั้งนั้นเลย BALAC ได้สอนให้เราตั้งค�ำถามกับ ความเป็นจริงที่เราอาศัยอยู่ และท�ำความเข้าใจ หรือแม้แต่ วิจารณ์ว่าท�ำไมสิ่งต่างๆถึงด�ำรงอยู่อย่างเช่นนั้น และเหนือสิ่ง อื่นใดคณะนี้ได้สอนให้เราเข้าใจวัฒนธรรมที่เราอยู่อาศัย และ ตระหนักว่าความคิดต่างๆ นั้นมีอยู่ทุกหนทุกแห่งหากเราลอง มองดูดีๆ วิชาโปรดของเราในดวงใจได้แก่ Popular Fictions, Contemporary Literature in English, Asian และ European History, General Philosophies และ Cultural Studies หลายคราที่เราได้พบเจอกับค�ำถามสุดแสนจะ คลาสสิคว่า ‘เราจะได้อะไรจากวิชาเหล่านี้’ ‘จบมาแล้วจะ ท�ำงานอะไร’ นิสิตจากคณะนี้มักตอบว่า ‘พวกเราสามารถ ประกอบอาชีพอะไรก็ได้’ เนื่องจากว่า BALAC ไม่ใช่คณะที่ ตีเส้นก�ำหนดการประกอบอาชีพที่แน่นอน นั่นท�ำให้นิสิตที่ จบออกมาประกอบอาชีพที่หลากหลาย ยกตัวอย่างเช่นการ เป็นกุ๊กไปจนถึงการเป็นนักออกแบบด้านแฟชั่น ถึงแม้ว่า BALAC นั้นไม่ได้ให้ความช�ำนาญพิเศษด้านใดโดยเฉพาะ แต่ นิสิตที่นี่ก็ได้รับทักษะที่หาได้ยากที่อื่น นิสิต BALAC หลายๆ คนมีความช�่ำชองด้านการเขียนภาษาอังกฤษ ตรรกศาสตร์ และการค้นคว้าวิจัย พวกเรามีความเข้าใจที่ลึกซึ้งของความ เป็นไปของโลกและวัฒนธรรมต่างๆ ของมัน นั่นเป็นผล กระทบให้พวกเรายอมรับความหลากหลาย ยืดหยุ่นต่อความ เปลี่ยนแปลง และเคารพในความแตกต่างระหว่างผู้คนไม่ว่า จะเป็นเรื่องศาสนา ค่านิยม หรือเพศสภาพ เรามีความสุขและ ความพอใจมากที่ได้มาเรียนที่คณะนี้ หากว่าเวลาหวนคืนมา ได้ เราก็จะไม่เลือกคณะอื่นใดนอกจากที่นี่ที่เดียวเท่านั้น
"ถึงแม้ว่า BALAC นั้นไม่ได้ให้ความช�ำนาญพิเศษ ด้านใดโดยเฉพาะ แต่นิสิตที่นี่ก็ได้รับทักษะที่หาได้ยากที่อื่น นิสิต BALAC หลายๆ คนมีความช�่ำชองด้านการเขียน ภาษาอังกฤษ ตรรกศาสตร์ และการค้นคว้าวิจัย พวกเรามีความเข้าใจที่ลึกซึ้งของความเป็นไปของโลก และวัฒนธรรมต่างๆ ของมัน นั่นเป็นผลให้พวกเรายอมรับความหลากหลาย ยืดหยุ่น ต่อความเปลี่ยนแปลง และเคารพในความแตกต่าง ระหว่างผู้คนไม่ว่าจะเป็นเรื่องศาสนา ค่านิยม หรือเพศสภาพ"

เข้าสู่โลกของผู้ใหญ่ หลังจากการสอบครั้งสุดท้ายที่สิ้นสุดลงเมื่อปลายเดือน พฤษภาคมของปี 2560 เราได้เข้าท�ำงานในเดือนถัดมา ในฐานะนักวิจัยที่บริษัท Mckinsey and Company ไม่ว่าจะเป็นสภาพแวดล้อมที่ท�ำงาน วัฒนธรรมองค์กร หรือเพื่อนร่วมงาน ล้วนท�ำให้เราตกหลุมรักกับที่นี่ อย่างรวดเร็ว การที่เราต้องปรับตัวและเรียนรู้กับโลก ในวัยท�ำงานใบใหม่นี้ มันเหมือนกับการเข้าไปเป็นเด็ก มหาวิทยาลัยปีหนึ่งไม่มีผิด มีหลายสิ่งหลายอย่างที่ต้อง เรียนรู้ ท�ำให้ตนนั้นตระหนักได้อย่างชัดเจนว่าที่จริง แล้วเรานั้นไม่รู้เรื่องอะไรเลย เพราะมีสิ่งที่ให้เราเรียน รู้ในโลกนี้อีกมากมาย พอหลายเดือนผ่านไปก็เริ่มมี ค�ำถามเกิดขึ้นในใจของเราซ�้ำแล้วซ�้ำเล่า นั่นก็คือ ‘นี่คือ สิ่งที่เราอยากท�ำจริงๆ หรือเปล่า’ เราเชื่อว่าคนเราควร มีเป้าหมายในชีวิต งานที่ท�ำให้ชีวิตมีคุณค่า สิ่งที่เราท�ำ แล้วเติมเต็มเราได้ และท�ำให้เราตื่นเต้นที่จะตื่นขึ้นมา ในวันถัดไป ถึงแม้ว่าตัวเราจะค้นพบความชอบที่มีแก่ การเล่าเรื่องมานานแล้ว แต่เราก็ไม่มีความมั่นใจพอว่า เราจะหากินได้จากมันหรือไม่ สมาชิกในครอบครัวของ เราคนหนึ่งบอกเสียด้วยซ�้ำว่าท�ำไมไม่เขียนหนังสือตอน ที่เกษียณแล้วล่ะ ค�ำพูดนั้นท�ำให้เรามาตั้งหน้าตั้งใจ คิดจริงๆ ว่าเหตุใดเราต้องรอจนกว่าตนเองอยู่ในช่วง สุดท้ายของชีวิตถึงจะได้ท�ำอะไรที่ตนเองชอบด้วย เราพยายามที่จะตื่นมาตีสี่ตีห้าเพื่อที่จะเขียนต้นฉบับ แล้วค่อยออกไปท�ำงาน บางครั้งก็เขียนจนถึงดึกถึง ดื่น นั่นส่งผลกระทบต่อศักยภาพในการท�ำงานของ เราท�ำให้ผลงานออกมาได้ไม่ดีเท่าที่ควรเพราะความ อ่อนล้า ต่อมาเราจึงได้ขอค�ำปรึกษาจากเจ้านายซึ่งท่าน ได้ให้ค�ำแนะน�ำว่าให้ท�ำมันเลยพร้อมบอกว่า ‘ถ้าไม่ ลองตอนนี้แล้วจะให้รอตอนไหนล่ะ’ ถูกของท่าน หลัง จากท�ำงานได้หกเดือนเราก็ขอลาพักมาเขียนต้นฉบับ ให้เสร็จ ตั้งเป้าหมายให้แน่วแน่ว่าภายในสามเดือน ต้องได้ตีพิมพ์ เราได้ใช้รายได้ที่เก็บมาไปลงทุนกับนัก บรรณาธิการ คนพิสูจน์อักษร และนักออกแบบปกตาม สื่อออนไลน์ที่แนะน�ำอย่างเช่น Upwork หรือ Fiverr หลังจากที่ทุกขั้นตอนเสร็จสิ้นแล้ว เราก็ได้ตีพิมพ์ หนังสือท�ำมือกับ Amazon ตามเป้าหมายที่ตั้งไว้

แง่คิดเบื้องหลังเรื่อง Wolf Town นานแล้วที่ตัวเราสนใจแง่คิดเรื่องเกี่ยวกับ Us VS Them ที่มีการแตก กิ่งออกมาจากความกลัวที่เรามีต่อบุคคลภายนอกซึ่งสามารถน�ำไปสู่ ความเข้าใจผิดหรือความรุนแรงได้ ทั้งนี้เหตุอาจจะมาจากวัฒนธรรม ในสังคมที่โน้มน้าวให้เราเป็นเช่นนั้นก็เป็นได้ Remembering Babylon ที่เขียนโดย David Malouf เป็นแรงบันดาลใจใหญ่ที่ ผลักดันให้เราตัดสินใจแต่งเรื่องนี้ขึ้นมาเพื่อศึกษาแง่คิดนี้เป็นหลัก Wolf Town ได้แสดงให้ผู้อ่านคิดและสงสัยว่าอะไรที่ตีความการเป็น บุคคลภายนอกซึ่งถูกกล่าวหาว่าเป็นสิ่งมีชีวิตที่อันตราย ไม่คู่ควรที่จะ ปรับความเข้าใจด้วยหรืออยู่ด้วยกันอย่างสงบสุขได้ สังคมได้สอนตัว ละครพวกนี้ให้ระมัดระวังตัวเองจากอะไรก็ตามที่ถูกตีความว่าไม่ใช่ พวกเดียวกันกับพวกเขา นี่ได้น�ำไปสู่การก่อให้เกิด ‘ปกติวิสัย’ ของ พวกเขาเหล่านั้น เหล่าหมาป่าตีความมนุษย์โดยรวมว่าเหมือนกัน หมด อันตรายและโหดเหี้ยม นั่นเป็นเพราะว่าเรื่องเล่าที่พวกเขาได้ยิน และการเผชิญหน้าที่ผ่านๆ มา การใช้ภาษาเข้ามาเป็นส่วนส�ำคัญใน การแสดงว่าพวกหมาป่าเหล่านี้คิดอย่างไรกับมนุษย์ พวกเขากล่าวถึง มนุษย์โดยไม่ใช้ชื่อหรือเพศ ถอนสถานะของมนุษย์ตนนั้นไม่ต่างกับ สัตว์หรือสิ่งของ พอเนื้อเรื่องด�ำเนินไปเรื่อยๆ พวกหมาป่าก็ได้รู้จักอีก ด้านหนึ่งของมนุษย์ และเริ่มที่จะยอมรับให้มนุษย์ผู้นี้อยู่อาศัยในถิ่น ของพวกเขา เมื่อเนื้อเรื่องใกล้จะจบผู้อ่านจะเห็นการเปลี่ยนของการ ใช้ภาษาอีกครั้งเมื่อความจริงได้ถูกเปิดโปง

แรงขับดันอีกอย่างหนึ่งคือความชื่นชอบของเราที่มีต่อหมาป่า ที่ถูกจุดประกายจากสารคดีและการอ้างอิงจากสื่อยอดนิยมอัน หลากหลายชนิด จากการค้นคว้าอย่างหนักท�ำให้เราได้เรียน รู้หลายสิ่งหลายอย่างที่น่าตระการตาของสัตว์ชนิดนี้ไม่ว่าจะ เป็นลักษณะนิสัย ธรรมชาติของฝูง ฯลฯ เหนือสิ่งอื่นใดเราได้ เรียนรู้ว่าหมาป่าไม่ถูกกฎหมายของสัตว์ที่ถูกคุกคามคุ้มครอง อีกต่อไป และในทุกๆ ปีที่ผ่านไปจ�ำนวนของพวกมันก็ได้ลด น้อยลงเรื่อยๆ เราหวังเป็นอย่างยิ่งว่าหนังสือเล่มนี้จะสามารถ ท�ำให้ผู้อ่านตระหนักถึงปัญหาตรงนี้ และมีความระมัดระวังกับ การกระท�ำของตนมากขึ้น เพราะในทุกๆ การกระท�ำย่อมมีผล ลัพธ์อื่นๆ ที่ตามมาดั่งก้อนหินที่ถูกปาลงในน�้ำท�ำให้เกิดคลื่น เนื้อเรื่องโดยย่อของ Wolf Town ในค�่ ำ คื น ที่ มื ด มิ ด เหล่ า หมาป่ า ได้ เ ห่ า หอนเล่ า ถึ ง เรื่ อ งราว เกี่ ย วกั บ มนุ ษ ยชาติ ที่ ไ ด้ ศู น ย์ สิ้ น ลงและเศษเสี้ ย วของความ ศิวิไลซ์ที่ยังคงเหลืออยู่ เมื่อศัตรูตัวฉกาจของพวกเขาชะตา ถึงฆาตแล้ว แมนซี่ หมาป่าชราประจ�ำฝูงได้แนะน�ำหัวหน้าของ เธอให้มุ่งหน้าไปยังทิศใต้ ไปยังเมืองที่ลือกันว่าโดนทิ้งร้างเมื่อ นานมาแล้ว ไร้ซึ่งหนทางอื่น เหล่าหมาป่าฝูงนี้ตัดสินใจที่จะท�ำ ตามค�ำแนะน�ำของแมนซี่เพื่อความอยู่รอด มิเช่นนั้นพวกเขา อาจอดตายกันได้ แต่ว่าแมนซี่ก็มีเป้าหมายอื่นอยู่ในใจในการมาเยือนเมืองร้าง ที่ว่านี้ เธอหวังว่าจะได้มาเจอกับแม่ที่เป็นมนุษย์ของเธออีก ครั้ง เธอยังจ�ำได้ดีครั้นที่มนุษย์ผู้นี้ได้เก็บเธอมาเลี้ยงและป้อน นมอุ่นจากขวดให้เธอดื่มกิน ไม่มีสิ่งใดอื่นที่หมาป่าชราผู้นี้จะ หวังนอกจากจะได้หลับตาและจากโลกนี้ไปในบ้านที่เธอได้ถูก ชุบเลี้ยงขึ้นมา หารู้ไม่ว่าเมืองร้างที่ว่านี้มีความลับและภัย อันตรายที่จะเปลี่ยนโชคชะตาของฝูงเธอตลอดไป Wolf Town เป็นเรื่องผจญภัยของหมาป่าฝูงหนึ่งในโลกที่ มนุษยชาติได้ศูนย์สิ้นไปแล้ว เป็นหนังสือสั้นที่เต็มไปด้วยเนื้อ เรื่องที่น่าติดตาม ผสมผสาน genre ต่างๆ และความระทึกได้ เป็นอย่างดี ผู้อ่านชมเชยว่า Wolf Town มีเนื้อเรื่องที่ดึงดูดน่า ติดตาม อีกทั้งยังแตกต่างและเป็นที่น่าจดจ�ำอีกด้วย เขียนโดยปาณิศา ไตรภพ (BALAC รุ่นที่ 6, นามปากกา Jett Valmond) เยี่ยมชม Wolf Town ได้ที่นี่ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BH2K2TT/ เว็บไซต์: http://jettvalmond.com/ อีเมล: jett.valmond@gmail.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/jett_valmond

How BALAC Shaped Me

In my entrance interview, I told my interviewers I wanted to become a writer and I aimed to get inspirations there, and golly it didn’t disappoint and overperformed beyond my expectations. There are mountain loads of interesting ideas here; thought-provoking and ever changing my worldview. Abundant theories, ideologies, criticisms and concepts that could be made into a story, to shred light to the lesser understood topic and the uncharted territory. BALAC taught me to question the reality we live in, to evaluate and criticize why things are the way they are. It teaches me to understand the very culture we are in and realize that ideas, in fact are
My favourite subjects are Popular Fictions, Contemporary Literature in English, Asian and European History, General Philosophies and Cultural Studies. Often than not I encountered the same old questions, ‘What do you get from those subjects?’ and ‘What will you do when you graduate?’ Most graduates or BALAC students in their last year would answer, ‘Well, you can be or do anything.’ This popular answer is prompted by the wide variety of exposures to the all-rounded classes we had, together with the seniors’ different career paths that range from being a cook to a fashion designer. This is true to some extent in

my opinion. While BALAC doesn’t give you the determined career path or a specialty like others, it gives you something hard to achieve elsewhere. Most BALAC students excel in English writing skills, communication, logics and reasoning, and research skills. They also have a more profound understanding to the cultures of this world, shaping them to embrace diversity, be flexible to changes and respect the differences including race, religion, ideology and sexuality to name a few. I had a blast studying there and if I could turn back time I wouldn’t go anywhere else. In the past I confess that I was a homophobic, narrow-minded, racist and sexist individual. BALAC changed me as a person; I am more open, understanding and respectful to the differences among us. Up until now, I often find myself enjoying the critical discussions about controversial subjects whether it be politics, faiths, traditions and customs. We, however need to be careful with our gained knowledge and be humble about it. Knowing something more than the others in any particular field doesn’t make us more superior. As BALAC students, we ought to utilize our knowledge to help others better understand this world; to ease tensions, hatred and fear of the unknown. This might sound idealistic and farfetched to some, but by helping one individual to better understand this world at a time, a web of acceptance and respect can be created and spread out infinitely. To the World of Adulthood Right after the last exam in May 2017, I went to work as a researcher in Mckinsey & Company in June. I loved the environment, the corporate culture and the colleagues there above all. Upon being thrusted into a different world, I saw many talents out there and we all have to struggle to survive to deliver our performance the best that we could. It was like being a freshman in university again when I realized that I knew nothing at all for there are an unlimited number of things out there to be learned. Slowly, I begin to learn my place in this new society and as months gone by, I often questioned myself, ‘Is this what I really want to do for the rest of my life?’ I believe that people should have a purpose in life, something that make their life meaningful. The fulfilment that makes you want

to wake up in the next day, feeling excited and thrilled. Although I had discovered my passion for storytelling at a young age, I didn’t have enough confidence that I could make a living from it. I was raised to pursue the traditional career path; graduate with first-honours, get a wellpaid job, build a family and retire. One of my family members even said I can write a book once I retire. That really got me thinking. Do I have to wait in my last stage of life to do what I love? What am I doing now, if not living a life that can bring me a sense of fulfilment? Having those questions in mind, I didn’t abandon my dream as I tried to wake up at 4-5am to write the manuscript before I go to work or sometimes late into the night. This affected my working performance and overall quality, so I consulted my manager whom we shared passion for reading. She encouraged me to go for my dream and stated, “If not now, then when?” Indeed, she was right. After 6 months of working there, I took a leave and went on full-time writing, to test myself whether this is what I want to do for the rest of my life or not. No more selfdoubt. No more excuses. I just went for it. During that period, I spent time reading more books, elevating my reading and writing skills. I self-taught myself into building a website, marketing all the way to how to write a good story. The latter might take a lifetime to learn and master, nevertheless, I relish every moment of learning that craft whether it be outlining, building characters to building an imaginative world. I planned to publish my book within 3 months. I started reworking Wolf Town manuscript, the piece that my Creative Writing Club members voted to be the best. I used my earnings to hire myself a book editor, cover designer and a proof-reader from recommended online sources e.g. Upwork, Fiverr. Finally, when all is done, I successfully self-published my book with Amazon, all according to the planed schedule.

Concepts Behind Wolf Town It’s inevitable not to spoil some of the storyline in order to have a full understanding of the concept behind Wolf Town. The core theme stemmed from the idea of Us VS Them, the outsider whom we fear and have little knowledge of, leading to conflict such as identity crisis or even violence from the lack of understanding in one another that is reinforced in one’s own culture. Inspired by the postcolonial literature, Remembering Babylon written by David Malouf, I was drawn on the ideas of how one is defined and become a member of the society and how one is dehumanized, dis-membered and cast out. The fear of the unknown especially, is most intriguing theme to explore in this story. Wolf Town illustrates this idea as the wolves deem the human as an outsider, a dangerous being that doesn’t deserve to be understood nor made peace with. Their society taught them to be wary and fearful of humans, it is their very culture that reinforces this idea into becoming their forged ‘nature.’ They generalize all humans to be the same; ruthless and unforgiving, largely due to the rumours that they have heard and the encounters they have witnessed. The language comes into play as readers will first see how the wolves refer to the human as it, alienating this person out of their circle for their differences. As the story progresses, the wolves come to learn the human’s kindness and begin
to accept and evaluate their prejudice. The human is later referred to by the name and the gender in which she holds, meaning that the wolves allow a sense of belonging to this human. The wolves become more open, curious to know the human’s story and eventually learn to live alongside her. Near the end of the story, readers will again see the drastic change in pronouns when the wolves discovered the truth. Another motivation to write about anthropomorphic wolves is due to my admiration for these remarkable creatures that peaked during my fourth year in university; no doubt sparked by the many wildlife documentaries and pop culture references that filled my world. Through my extensive research, I discovered some fascinating things—the mythical ranking system, the behavior patterns, etc. Perhaps most importantly, I learned about the plight of the wolf. For unknown reasons, wolves have lost the protection guaranteed by the Endangered Species Act (2011), and their numbers continue to lessen with each passing year. I hope that this book brings a sense of awareness about the consequences of our actions. If humankind were to become aware of its negative impact on wildlife, would the fate of the hunted wolf be any different? Knowing they were safe, would the lives of wolves take a different turn? These wandering thoughts eventually shaped the story behind Wolf Town.

Wolf Town Synopsis In the dark night, the wolves howl, telling stories of the downfall of humanity and the last remnants of civilization. With their only natural predators gone— either dead or withering away from the disease that triggered the apocalypse—old Mansi’s wolf pack should be thriving. Yet food is scarce in this new world and, on the elderly wolf’s advice, the Alpha turns the pack south, toward a town rumored to be long abandoned…and perhaps their only hope for survival.
