This is the time of the school year when you need a boost—that’s why we’re so glad you’re joining us for an exciting day of PD just for art teachers! Use this guide to lead you through the conference and help bring your inspiration and new ideas directly into your classroom. You will be able to find sessions to reinvigorate your teaching and help you thrive for the rest of the year.

Inside, you’ll find note-taking (and doodling!) space for each presentation, creativity prompts, links that lead to further exploration, and much more! Sit back and relax. It’s going to be an incredible conference!

Before the event, set yourself up for success by making sure to check your tech, gather supplies, and load up on snacks!

TECH CHECK!

The NOW Conference will take place on Zoom. Links are shared on the NOW Attendee Guide landing page and will be sent via email on the day of the event. Make sure you have a good wi-fi connection and can stream a Zoom meeting on your device.

GET SET!

To ensure a relaxing day, spend a few minutes gathering the following materials ahead of time:

• A sketchbook, paper, and a few fun artmaking materials. Check out the full supply list on the NOW Attendee Guide landing page.

• Your favorite glitter pen, rainbow marker, or Ticonderoga pencil for taking notes.

• Headphones to eliminate distractions.

• Snacks and drinks to keep your energy up.

• A pre-packed lunch you can grab quickly during one of our breaks.

Create a unique art-themed snack for the conference and share it on social media using the hashtag #NOWConference. The best snack will win free entry to the Summer 2023 Conference! Maybe start the day with a George Braque-fast bar? A Pop Art Pop-Tart? Whatever you come up with, we want to see it!

Drink Menu

THE RUM AND HÖCH

Ingredients

• 2 oz rum

• 4 oz cola

Directions

Pour the rum into a highball glass filled with ice. Top with cola, and make a collage while you sip your drink.

THE MOCHA LISA Ingredients

• 1 cup hot brewed coffee

• 1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

• 1 Tbsp white sugar

• 2 Tbsp milk

Directions

Pour hot coffee into a mug, then mix in the cocoa, sugar, and milk. Sip and smile subtly to yourself.

ARNOLFINI PALMER

Ingredients

• 5 oz prepared lemonade

• 5 oz prepared iced tea

• 1 cup ice

Directions

Combine lemonade and iced tea in a tall glass. Add ice and stir until chilled. Share with your significant other and drink while holding hands.

CHAMOMILE PISSARRO

Ingredients

• 3-4 Tbsp chamomile

• 1 Mint sprig

• 8 oz water

Directions

Combine chamomile and mint sprig into a tea bag. Pour boiling water over the tea bag and steep for 5 minutes. Sip slowly and wish you were as creative and talented as Claude Monet.

Explore presentations with content specifically for elementary, middle school, and high school, as well as presentations for teacher leaders and administrators.

Featured Presenter Andrea Beaty

Children’s Book Author

BIO:

Andrea Beaty is the author of Iggy Peck, Architect; Rosie Revere, Engineer; and Ada Twist, Scientist; among other children’s titles. Her latest picture book—Aaron Slater, Illustrator—is an uplifting story about the power of art, finding your voice, and telling your story even when you’re out of step with your peers. Andrea is an advocate for STEAM and her books have been read around the globe and in space on board the International Space Station. She lives just outside Chicago.

The K–12 Art Educator Framework is a voluntary framework developed by The Art of Education University for professional art educators. Comprised of 6 domains, 15 sub-domains, and 50 competencies, the K–12 Art Educator Framework was designed to optimize teacher effectiveness through real-world practice.
