Study through the medium of Welsh

If you’re a Welsh speaker and want to study part of your degree through the medium of Welsh, at Cardiff Met we can help. Several of our degrees offer modules through the medium of Welsh and prepare you for careers in the fields of sport, health, education, art and design, and business.

There are many advantages to studying through the medium of Welsh, which include:

• Extra funding

• Smaller class sizes

• Opportunities to develop specialist terminologies bi-lingually

Financial Support

Cardiff Met offers scholarships to students who choose to study through the medium of Welsh.

Main Scholarship: £1,000 annually (£3,000 over 3 years)

Who is eligible: Students studying at least 66% of their course, i.e. 80 credits a year, through the medium of Welsh.

Incentive Scholarship: £500 annually (£1,500 over 3 years)

Who is eligible: Students studying 33% of their course through the medium of Welsh in any subject.

Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol

The Cardiff Met Branch is a society of students and staff who are keen to promote Welsh medium education and opportunities for students and staff and it works closely with the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol to ensure this.

The Welsh Society

The Welsh Society is an organisation for the University's Welsh speakers. It is a great opportunity to get to know other Welsh students, whether from Llandaff or Cyncoed campus. The Society meets regularly and organizes a number of social activities through the medium of Welsh including rugby trips, Rhyng-gol Eisteddfod, the Welsh Provision dinner and more.
