Informed by industry needs, this degree will enable you to understand, apply and critically evaluate data science and artificial intelligence principles.

Data generated by humans and machines is transforming our society, economics and politics. The ability to garner meaningful insights, knowledge and intelligence from complex data has never been more important.

The degree will equip you with the in-demand skills to design and utilise data science systems and use industry standard tools and techniques to address real world problems.

A wide range of industry and government organisations have worked closely in developing the degree, creating challenging scenarios and assessments based on real-life cases for your learning environment. Preparing you to meet industry needs, the curriculum covers Blockchain technology – a first of its kind in Wales.

You will have the option to explore work experience opportunities and widen your international perspective through student exchanges and internships with several European and international partners.

Place of study: Llandaff Campus

Course length: 3-5 years fulltime, dependent upon taking a foundation year (see page 166) and/ or year-long sandwich placement

The degree is based on several compulsory modules across the three years that include, but not limited to:

• Data Analysis

• Blockchain Fundamentals

• Data Visualisation and Storytelling

• Data Visualisation Grammar and Idioms

• Analytics & Business Intelligence

Options in the final year will allow you to develop your specific interests and expertise.

Your future

• Real world experience can be obtained as part of your study completing an optional sandwich year placement/industrial internship.

• Graduates will have the necessary skills and knowledge to understand, apply and critically evaluate underlying Data Science principles. In addition, graduates will also be equipped with the skills to design and utilise Data Science systems and use industry standard tools and techniques in their implementation.

• Qualified Data Scientists are in demand with lucrative salaries available across the public and private sectors.
