BSc (Hons)

This degree offers you the opportunity to join an exciting profession and gain a Health and Care Professions Council approved qualification as a Speech and Language Therapist.

You will be taught by a dedicated team of lecturers that includes experienced speech and language therapists with a wide range of specialisms, as well as researchers whose work is known internationally. We have longestablished links with the NHS, and all of our students gain hands-on clinical experience with a range of adult and paediatric clients.

Placement opportunities are very varied, ranging from our in-house clinics to hospitals, clinics, schools and specialist centres. All placements are organised by the course and provide a range of clinical experience to enhance your employability prospects. You will develop your expertise in assessing and treating a diverse range of client groups.

Typical modules

The course provides you with a firm foundation in subjects which are core to the speech and language therapy profession, such as linguistics, phonetics, anatomy, physiology, and psychology. You will develop an understanding of a variety of specific speech and language disorders in adults and children as well as studying more specialised clinical areas.

In our Clinical Practice and Research module you will complete a series of case days during year two to continue developing your clinical skills alongside teaching. For one of the case days, all students have a conversation with a client with aphasia to develop their skills in supported conversation. Throughout the course, theory and practice are interwoven.
