Developed in conjunction with professional bodies and industry, our specialist Marketing degrees in Advertising, Brand, Digital, PR, and Sales will enable you to gain the academic knowledge and practical skills needed in the creative and ever-evolving marketing industry.

Our Marketing Management degrees have been awarded the CIM ‘Accredited Degree’ status – this accreditation provides you with an opportunity to gain exemption from both the CIM Certificate in Professional Marketing and Diploma in Professional Marketing Qualifications.

You will be taught by academic experts, experienced practitioners and guest speakers from industry. There is an active Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) student chapter giving you the chance to take part in extracurricular activities linked to your studies.

There is a strong emphasis on employability across our portfolio of marketing degrees and to ensure you gain invaluable practical experience you will undertake a compulsory work placement in the second year and have the option to take a year-long placement in industry.

Typical modules

In your first year, you will study a range of common modules available across these marketing degrees including digital media for marketers learning industry standard software applications, whilst undertaking additional modules linked to your specialist subject.

In year two, you will continue to focus on core modules linked to consumer behaviour, creative marketing communication and research methods, alongside more specific core modules linked to your chosen degree. A range of options that cover areas such as search, mobile and social media marketing, as well as sports, events and sponsorship marketing are also available.

In your final year, there is an emphasis on the more strategic areas of your chosen subject and other areas of marketing including international global marketing and account management. You will also be able to choose from a number of optional modules.

• These degrees provide entry on to a wide range of taught and research degree Master's programmes within the University where you can progress on to either an MA, MSc or MRes degrees.

Delivered at our Cyncoed campus, our sport degrees are structured to provide distinctive pathways which cater for individual student interests and serve to meet the vocational requirements of an expanding marketplace in the fields such as sport science, management, coaching, dance, physical education and health and more. All degrees are underpinned by world-leading research and scholarship, led by our internationally recognised research professors, in collaboration with many National Governing Bodies, clubs and industry. Teaching facilities include:

Performance Analysis Lab

Our world-leading Performance Analysis facility consists of 3 computer labs that are stocked with an array of commercially available PC and Mac systems, coupled with powerful video editing tools. Our Cyncoed campus also has a growing outdoor IP camera network to facilitate powerful video capture processes.

Physiology Lab

Our Sport Physiology Labs are accredited by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES). We have two laboratories with a wide range of equipment for sport-specific assessment, including running, cycling, swimming and rowing. These contain a range of equipment that is used to enhance your learning and allow for hands-on experience with specialist sports science equipment.

Biomechanics Lab

Sport and Exercise Biomechanics is housed in the National Indoor Athletics Centre (NIAC), with a dedicated lab space, two data collection areas within the athletics area, an analysis suite and a workshop. Hardware includes, Vicon and Codamotion automatic motion capture systems, high speed cameras and Kistler force plates.

Strength & Power Gym

Situated above the Strength and Power gym is the Conditioning and Rehabilitation gym. One half of this area is equipped for upper body strength development with four weightlifting benches and racks, dumbbell benches, prone pull benches and a range of dumbbells. The other half provides an open space area for warmups and rehabilitation practical lectures.

Massage Teaching Room

Our School’s Sports Massage teaching room is situated on the first floor of the National Indoor Athletics Centre (NIAC). The room is fully equipped to teach both practical and theoretical aspects of sports massage, providing an excellent learning and teaching environment.

Sports Broadcast & Media Suite

Featuring a sound-proofed TV studio with lights, cameras, green screen and a virtual set, a TV gallery with a TriCaster operating system and a master edit station, and a soundproofed self-operated radio studio equipped with podcast/audio recording equipment.

Research Labs:

Physiology

Our labs support a wide range of staff and student research activity. Final year undergraduate students can gain experience with more advanced exercise physiology equipment during independent research dissertation projects. There are also opportunities to be involved in ongoing postgraduate and staff research projects. Our most specialised equipment is in the research laboratory for use by doctoral students and staff members.

SCRAM

Our SCRAM Research Laboratory enables in-depth analysis of athletic performance. The facility enables researchers and practitioners alike to determine an athlete’s level of performance for a range of strength and power qualities. It also allows practitioners to assess muscular performance within a rehabilitative setting.

Health facilities

Our specialist Health Sciences facilities are designed with your future career in mind, enabling you to gain practical experiences as part of your degree.

Facilities include:

Biomedical & Healthcare Science Labs

Our biomedical science teaching laboratories are large, modern and well equipped, allowing you to develop key competencies aligned with accreditation requirements. You will undertake essential practicals in core discipline areas which include microbiology and immunology, blood and cellular sciences, molecular biology and genetics, throughout your programme of study. Media screen and audio set-up enables interactive engagement between staff and students, ensuring an excellent learning experience is delivered during all laboratory sessions.

Health Assessment Suite

Our Health Assessment Suite involves the physiological assessment of human volunteers using a wide range of techniques. Some of these techniques include blood pressure measurements, arterial stiffness measurements using applanation tonometry, pulse oximetry, ultrasound measures including the assessment of blood flow to the brain, spirometry, exercise testing, and venous and capillary blood taking and analysis. Research conducted in the Health Assessment Suite has a particular focus on vascular health, which informs teaching in this area.

Dental Technology Labs

Our dental labs are fully equipped to enable you to carry out practical exercises in the disciplines of fixed and removable prosthodontics and orthodontics. You will have your own fully equipped lab bench, with a micromotor, personal extraction, overhead daylight lamp, bunsen burner, and induction heater. We provide all other medium and large equipment in the dedicated, communal plaster room. We also have a fully functioning CAD/CAM suite, with CAD software, dental scanners, and 3D printers for modern dental techniques.

Food Industry Centre

Our ZERO2FIVE facilities within our Food Industry Centre are available for Food Science & Nutrition, Dietetics, Biomedical Sciences and Environmental Health students to use in support of their learning. You will have access to a consumer sensory suite, four pilot sized plants, a development kitchen and a consumer research kitchen.

Podiatry Clinic

You will have access to a large clinical facility with an on-site multi-chair clinic, along with a gait laboratory, orthosis manufacturing laboratories and a recently established anatomy and physiology laboratory where technology is used to enhance the delivery of these subjects. There is also a simulation suite where a variety of pre-clinical diagnostic and treatment skills can be developed.

Psychology Labs

Psychology facilities include individual testing rooms for behavioural experiments and a range of specialist equipment including a Tobii eye tracker, Biosemi EEG, and Noldus face reader. We also have a teaching laboratory stocked with an array of commercially available PC’s and a number of BIOPAC MP46’s for teaching principles of psychophysiology.
