Both pathways are professionally accredited by the Tourism Management Institute (TMI). We are also proud to be an Educational Partner of ABTA, the leading association of travel agents and tour operators, and this allows you to apply for the competitive ABTA Internship.
Your learning is underpinned by the research undertaken by the Welsh Centre for Tourism Research (WCTR), the Association for Tourism in Higher Education (ATHE) and our academic staff.
In order to help you explore and prepare for a career in this diverse, resilient industry, our International Tourism Management degree provides you with a blend of core knowledge that reflects the economic, environmental and social context and practice of tourism, underpinned by rigorous management theory.
To date students have undertaken placements both overseas and within the UK. Overseas placements have included Universal Studios, Disney, a range of resort hotels and country clubs within the USA, Camp America, airline operators such as Virgin Atlantic as well as European placements with tour operators such as TUI. Within the UK, students have worked for a range of organisations such as the National Trust, the Youth Hostel Association, Cardiff Airport and the National Museum of Wales.
To enhance the module content further, the course draws on the expertise of a number of industry experts including: those from Visit Wales, Cardiff Airport and the Principality Stadium, Cardiff Motorpoint Arena, CADW, Cardiff Castle, the Museum of Cardiff and the Brecon Beacons National Park. You will have the opportunity to participate in visits to a variety of tourist attractions and destinations connecting theory to real-life from a UK, European and international perspective.

Typical modules
You will study several core management and tourism specific modules, with a range of options to enable you to tailor your degree to your specific interests and career ambitions. You will also have the option to study a language as part of your degree; French, Spanish or Mandarin, which can be carried through to the final year. Typical modules might include:

• The tourism industry offers a diverse range of career opportunities, and you will be well placed to secure managerial positions both in the UK and overseas.
• Opportunities exist in the fields of destination marketing and planning, airport and airline operations, travel and tour operations, events management, sports management and marketing national and local tourism organisations and visitor attractions management.
• Recent graduates have gone on to work at TUI, Bluestone, True Travel and Hangloose Adventure (Eden Project).
• Progression to specialist postgraduate programmes at the University are also available.
