BA (Hons)

One policing degree –countless career options within the criminal justice system.

Modern policing is facing new professional challenges and the communities served by the police are increasingly diverse and complex, with differing needs and priorities. The nature of crime is evolving.

This degree is licensed by the College of Policing and allows you to apply for the Professional Policing Degree (PPD) entry route. The course will not only prepare you with the skills and experience required to join as a Police Constable but will also equip you to pursue a career in other roles in the criminal justice arena.

On this pre-join degree, you will develop high levels of professional knowledge and skills across a range of complex and challenging situations and contexts, as well as demonstration of appropriate behaviours congruent with effective and appropriate front-line policing.

You will be taught by research active lecturers and nationally accredited ex-police officers, with a wealth of experience including response, neighbourhood, CID and specialist public protection units.

We use a variety of teaching approaches designed to accommodate a range of learning needs. This involves workshops, seminars, lectures and virtual learning environments. You will also be presented with simulated complex policing problems designed to develop problem solving and decision-making skills. You will take part in mock scenarios including house searches, booking into custody, and victim and suspect interviews in our dedicated crime scene house. Plus, our Moot Courtroom helps you to be fully prepared for court room experiences as a police officer. There are many volunteering opportunities available for you to pursue work experience during the degree. We can support you to become a Special Constable or you could work with South Wales Police on their student volunteer programme, strengthening your employability upon graduation.
