Media & Communications
BA (Hons)
Enhance your knowledge and skillset in media and communications, as well as gain a deep understanding of media theories and their application to the world we live in today.
This forward-thinking course allows you to find your own career path by covering a variety of subjects whilst enhancing your professional writing and digital skills; enabling you to become a specialist in your chosen field and opening a wide variety of careers.
It is uniquely designed with three central pillars that form its structure: media theory; media writing; and creative digital practice.
Media theory provides a deeper critical engagement with the media whilst media writing focuses on writing for journalism, PR and communications.
Throughout, you will develop effective writing skills and be able to specialise in areas of interest such as sport, tv, fashion, food, film, music and environmental science. You will also write news articles, features, press releases and campaign plans.
During creative digital practice you will develop digital skills that are extremely desired by employers, using Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, InDesign and Premiere Pro. You will focus on multimedia production where you will be able to design, film and edit your own creative work, practicing your skills in our dedicated mac media suite and podcasting room, whilst also getting involved in mobile film making.
In year two, the work placement module provides you with valuable, real-world experience in Cardiff and beyond. Previous placement settings have included Literature Wales, Eat Sleep Media, Cardiff Rugby, Youth Cymru and Bristol 24/7. Or you can select the extended work placement or undertake a sandwich year for extra industry experience.
