Early Years Education & Professional Practice
with Early Years Practitioner Status (EYPS) BA (Hons)
Become a highly skilled early years practitioner working with children and their families.
There are two pathways of study available:
• BA (Hons) Early Years Education and Professional Practice with Early Years Practitioner Status (EYPS)
• BA (Anrh) Addysg Gynnar ac Ymarfer Proffesiynol gydag SYBC (Dwyieithog)*
You will earn qualified Early Years Practitioner status (EYPS), gaining practical work-based experience combined with theoretical and policybased knowledge, as well as the transferable skills required for effective Early Years practice, including the management of Early Years settings.
A central aspect of this innovative degree is the 700 hours of assessed practice-based experience that you will complete in order to gain EYPS.
This is made up of a placement during each year of your study in a range of relevant settings such as infant classrooms, private nurseries, children’s centres and primary schools. You will spend time in our campusbased Forest School provision, where you will be able to gain first-hand experience of this dynamic approach to early education and opportunity to achieve an additional Forest School Level 2 Assistant Training qualification. You will also develop vital leadership skills and a recognised ILM Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management qualification, which will be beneficial in future leadership roles.
During the degree, you will be taught by research active academics and early years specialists including guest lecturers from associated settings, such as Play Wales and Ty Hafan, to provide additional teaching and learning opportunities.
On completion, you will be highly valued by prospective employers within the early years sector.

Your future
• Typical career destinations include play setting roles, nursery management, education welfare and owning your own play centre, as well as related careers in family support work, safeguarding, health and social care and play therapy.

• This degree provides a platform to progress to primary teaching. At Cardiff Met all graduates are guaranteed an interview for the Primary PGCE, subject to meeting entry requirements.
• Progression to further postgraduate and PhD study is available, including our range of education master’s degrees at Cardiff Met.

*Whilst some of the degree will be delivered through the medium of English, most of the bilingual course is available to study through the medium of Welsh, including Welsh personal tutor support and placement opportunities. Scholarships may be available.
