This month we had our first Total Fire Ban for several years; hopefully, this is not a sign of things to come. Many families would have been unaware of the process that day, and the reorganisation may have come as a surprise. My apologies for that.

On a day that has been declared as a total fire ban and or there are active fires in the district, the entire College moves to remote learning. The Mt Macedon campus is closed to teachers and students. If the buses are permitted to run, they will do so but terminate at the Woodend Campus. Students who cannot study from home or those who wish to come to the Woodend Campus of the College are permitted to do so. They, like all students, will be online. The students on campus will be supervised. The tuckshop and food van will be closed. At the end of the day, the buses will run slightly early, given the likelihood that the buses will have fewer travellers.

This policy has been in place for many years and is not unusual in our shire, with many schools taking different paths to support learning when these days are declared. I learned of multiple parent groups disseminating messages via platforms such as WhatsApp. There is an opportunity to improve the speed of messaging using connections such as these, think old-school phone tree. If you are communicating that way and would like to be a key contact, please get in touch with me.

If you have any questions about the day, please do not hesitate to contact your Head of School
