As I write in the middle of winter the jackhammers of Finholt Construction tear apart the North bay of our new building. Two years ago when we purchased this building with its telescoping floors, spray foam walls, and strong smell of raccoon pee coming from every wall, we knew one thing, this place was funky and a blank canvas. We are proving this with each project we try.

We are so excited to welcome you to our new Doyle G Heyveld Gallery this spring. Doyle passed away last year after a battle with early onset Alzheimers. He and his wife, Cheryl, moved to Decorah after retiring as engineers in Illinois. "Doyle was special. Most engineers have such a practical brain, but Doyle was also creative," his wife Cheryl told me the other day. Doyle loved helping artists find their voice in an annual art exhibit he assisted with back home.

Now his legacy lives on giving life to a space that welcomes new and long-time artists in a community in which his grandchildren are beginning to explore their artistic expression.

Thank you Doyle (and Cheryl) for this gift, from us and all the artists who will showcase their work here.

YOUTH CAMPS - ELEMENTARY

SPACE RANGERS Create projects based on an intergalactic world, outer space and alien invaders. $90 July 5- 8 • 9:30 - noon

TINKERHAUS Create art with gears, levers, and ramps, legos, wheels and all sorts of STEAM builds. $90 July 11-15 • 10 - noon

HEDGEHOGS AND GNOMES An art camp exploring projects around the mysterious world of the backyard. $90 July 25- 29 • 10 - noon

CERAMICS AND CLAY Pinch a pot, coil a cup, slab roll a hanging tile, and paint ceramics all week. $120 August 1 - 5 • 10 - noon

EXPERIENCE ENCANTO Spend a magical week experiencing the language and art of South America. Play some games, learn some Spanish, and create some art to take home and decorate your casita. $90 July 18- 22 • 10 - noon

YOUTH CAMPS - MIDDLE SCHOOL

STUDIO GHIBLI FILM CLUB An outdoor (as much as possible) late night film showing of a Studio Ghibli film in the ArtHaus parking lot. Bring a lawn chair. An art project related to the film will take place indoors at 7 pm intended for middle school age youth. $10 per time or $60 for summer Every Tuesday July 5- August 16 7 - 10 pm

SWORD PLAY Join S.A.F.D. certified teacher Jason Tipsword, in learning how to safely wield a sword.

Two hours of attack and defense with swords and shields, including hands-onhistory elements. Students are started with wood swords and shields. $90 August 8-12 1-3 pm

FACE PAINTING CLASS Learn how to create simple and complex designs on one another's faces using techniques and materials to create the best effects.

Those who perfect their skills and would like to face paint at Nordic Fest are welcome to join us. $25 July 16 9 - 11 am

SUMMER PROGRAMS - HIGH SCHOOL

YOUNG ADULT POTTERS - 9 WEEK PROGRAM Committed youth (16-19 yrs old) interested in pursuing a career in pottery will work on the wheel learning new techniques as well as how to sell at markets and fairs, instruct others, and have a gallery show.

No prior clay experience is required. Only 6 students will be selected for the program and full commitment to all dates is required. Classes are every Monday and Wednesday night. $550 YAP Scholarship deadline April 30 June 6 - August 1 Mondays and Wednesdays 5 - 7 pm

COMIC CLUB A week of gathering with Luther College Student, Jurgen D to learn special techniques in comic book making and graphic novels. You will end up with several complete comics and able to share your work with others. $90 July 11-15 • 1- 3 pm

MINIGOLF WORKSHOP A COUPLE OF PUTTS Special guests, Robin Schwartzman and Tom Loftus, also known as A Couple of Putts, designed and built several of the holes at the Walker Art Museum in Minneapolis and they are here in Decorah for 4 days to help you design and build your own minigolf hole. $100 Thursday - Sunday June 16 - 19 • 9am - 3pm

IRON POUR- SCRATCH TILES KELLY LUDEKING Ironmonger, Kelly Ludeking will guide you in how to create a scratch tile using plasticine clay, found objects and your own handprints. The tile will be brought to the Down on the Farm Iron pour on July 2, which you are welcome to attend. The iron is poured after sunset and is free to attend. $65 Saturday June 25 • 1-3 pm

MACRAME SUNDAYS CELIA WILKE Spend the last Sunday of each month creating macrame wall hangings, plant holders, coasters and more. Feel free to bring your own inspiration for a guided work through. Materials are included. $35 each or $100 for all 3 Sundays June 26 July 31 August 28 3-5 pm

OPEN STUDIO IS THE GYM FOR YOUR CREATIVE MUSCLES The Open Studio Pass is your ticket to creative fitness! Being creative takes practice and we are here to help. Open Studio is available 1-7 pm weekdays and 10-5 Saturdays. Pass holders can access the full studio for painting, wood burning, sewing, jewelry making, printmaking, clay building and more. Work independently, continue over several visits, or try something new each day! All pass holders get 20% discount on ceramics and brand new single use supplies. EMERGING ARTIST EXHIBITION April 21 - May 12 Juried show of 18-25 year olds living within 150 miles of Decorah. Applications due March 31. $25 application fee. Best of Show receives solo show and $200. People's Choice receives $100.

MARY ANN GLOE RETROSPECTIVE May 27 - June 25 Mary Ann Gloe of Decorah will show a retrospective of her life work at ArtHaus during the month of June. Known as a watercolor artist, Gloe has often explored various techniques with various materials. From Halloween webbing to basket weaving to x-acto knife cutting her work captures Iowa's beauty in many untraditional ways.

PORTRAITS COMMUNITY SHOW July 1- July 30 Has your perception of the human body changed as we continue to learn about viruses, illness, and disability in the ever changing environment in which we now live? Have you started examining faces differently since masks became a part of daily life? Share with us your artwork capturing portraits of yourself or others and your experience of the body/self in this time.

All ages welcome in this non-juried portrait show.

Applications are due June 17. $10 per piece entry fee. A judge at the show will award cash prizes for 1, 2, and 3 place!

MAKERS MARKET

County Cork - Terry Cahill and Jill Kane Terry retired in 2019 and took up carving as a hobby. He is inspired by YouTube carving influencer Doug Linker. As carvings accumulated Jill decided to try her hand at painting them. The couple enjoys carving because they can do it together and take it anywhere as they do a lot of traveling and camping. Terry and Jill reside in Denver, Iowa.

Lauren Bonney Lauren Bonney is an artist and illustrator living outside Decorah with her family and creating magic with color wherever she finds the opportunity. Her work is informed by her love of folk art and children’s book illustrations and deals with subjects from the deeply personal to the communal and cosmic. She enjoys drinking tea, sorting things by color, and reading with her ears.

Andrea Seitz Andrea Seitz is a painter & art teacher residing in beautiful Elkader with her family. The process of creating is where she feels most challenged and fulfilled. She enjoys finding the balance between texture, pattern, and color in abstract painting and is also inspired by experiences of motherhood, botanicals, and the glorious country views that surround her.

MOTHER NATURES DRAG EXTRAVAGANZA April 22 • 7 - 9 PM Convergence Ciderworks $15-$25 Sliding Scale Celebrate Earth Day with the Iowa Drag Queens and Kings. An outdoor event full of excitement.

WASHINGTON STREET ART CRAWL June 25 • 10 - 5 PM Washington Street Free The second annual art festival held on Washington Street in Decorah. View the galleries at Impact, Agora, Perfect Edge, and Mystic Sundog, and artists set up at stores and restaurants, like Convergence.

During the art crawl view the booths at ArtHaus for during ART IN THE PARK(ING) LOT. 10 juried artists from near and far selling their work for your enjoyment.

POP-UP FINE ART IRON SHOWCASE June 30 • 6-8 pm ArtHaus Free View the fine art made by ironmongers participating in the Down on the Farm pour.

DOWN ON THE FARM IRON POUR July 2 Ludeking Farm Free Watch hot iron be poured into custom molds made by local artists and those who have traveled in for this event.

VOLUNTEER

NEW Garden Committee: Meet with other likeminded artists and gardeners to plan what will go in our garden, schedule maintenance, and what classes and projects we will make with the dyes.

Welcome Desk: Greet visitors, answer questions about our Makers Market and Gallery, show guests around the facility, check out purchases, assist with glazing. Weekdays between 1-7 and weekends between 10-7.

Classroom Assistant: If you love to create and help people, volunteer to assist students of ArtHaus by finding materials in the classroom, and being an extra pair of hands during clean up. A great opportunity to explore if you are thinking of offering a class for ArtHaus as an instructor. Weekdays 3-5 pm
