An attentiveness to the conditions of life is felt throughout this summer issue of Art Guide. Our cover artist Kaylene Whiskey exuberantly paints her two loves of Country and Western celebrity culture, while photographer Polly Borland illuminatingly speaks of her own brushes with the powerful, acknowledging a sense of feeling lost amidst rapid climate change. This urgency on environmental threat is given a global voice through our profiles on UK artist James Capper and Toronto-based, Anishinaabe artist Rebecca Belmore, as well as in Léuli Eshrāghi’s art. We also visit Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran in his Sydney studio, Naminapu Maymuru-White shows us the stars, and Sophia Cai asks: “When should you work for free?”
