Forugh Farrokhzad was a poet who was an influential Iranian poet and film director. Her poetry was the poetry of protest– protest through revelation– the revelation of the innermost world of women (considered taboo until then), their intimate secrets and desires, their sorrows, longings, aspirations, and at times even their articulation through silence. As a result of the Iranian revolution, authorities banned her poetry for almost a decade. But that censorship only elevated her appeal to new generations of Iranians, who saw Farrokhzad as a symbol of artistic, personal, and sexual freedom. This zine features 8 selected poems with the addition of illustrations inspired by 13th-century Persian miniature paintings.
