Avec le moteur 250, Ferrari crée une nouvelle famille de voitures qui va faire progresser l'entreprise de façon significative. C'est avec la 250 qu'apparaît pour la première fois le suffixe "GT", pour Gran Turismo. Pour les versions route, le sobre coupé PF cède la place en 1960 à la 250 GTE. Signée Pinin Farina, elle est la première de la marque à offrir quatre places. D'emblée, elle rencontre un énorme succès et atteint une production qui frôle le millier d'exemplaires. grâce aux informations fournies par Marcel Massini, nous savons qu’elle a été délivrée neuve en Suisse, par Automobile Monteverdi AG à un certain M. Castelmarco résidant à Bale. Elle était alors Grigio Scuro avec un intérieur en cuir Connolly rouge comme l’est encore élégamment aujourd’hui. La voiture fut ensuite envoyée aux Etats-Unis, on la retrouve en 1974 alors qu’elle appartenait à J. N. Paulson dans l’Illinois, avant qu’elle ne soit vendue par Heritage Classic à Beverly Hills en 1999. Elle était alors décrite comme entièrement d’origine, grise avec son intérieur cuir rouge original.

With the presentation of the 250 engine, Ferrari created a new line of cars that allowed the company to grow significantly. It was on the 250 that the “GT” suffix first appeared, for Gran Turismo. Marcel Massini we know that the car on offer, bearing Pinin Farina number 68063, was sold new in Switzerland by Automobile Monteverdi AG to Mr Castelmarco of Basel. It was originally Grigio Scuro with a red Connolly leather interior as it is today. The car later went to the USA. In 1974 it belonged to J.N.Paulson from Illinois.
