“In my latest exhibition at Artbay Gallery in Queenstown, I have brought together a group of six new paintings that celebrate some of my favourite places. Two of these new works are based on our beloved Pohutukawa in full bloom which l am surrounded by where l live and just can’t stop looking at. I take great joy in the use of the varying shades of red which I’ve continued to explore over these last two years.”
- Michael MooreMichael Moore was born in the Wairarapa and grew up with a deep connection to the land, a connection that has endured throughout his life.
His earliest years were spent in a small rural settlement nestled in the hills to the east of Masterton. These formative years left a lasting impression on him, shaping his perception and influencing his art.
For Michael, the process of creating art is akin to keeping a visual diary. Consequently, his paintings often take the form of sequential series. He employs both oil and acrylic paints, appreciating the unique qualities they bring to different subjects.
In 1990, Michael made the decision to pursue painting full-time. Since then, he has been a regular exhibitor at prestigious galleries across New Zealand. His work has found a place in various public collections, including the NZ Parliamentary Collection, Waikato Museum of Art & History, and the Auckland University of Technology. Additionally, his art graces numerous private and corporate collections, both in New Zealand and abroad.
