Words

Dear students, parents, colleagues, governors and friends of the school. It seems a lifetime ago since we were hanging “actual artwork” for the Summer Art Exhibition in the Hibret foyer!

Like many things, Covid-19 has made such events impossible.

Unperturbed, however, we bring to you the very first digital Abbey Grange Summer Exhibition for you to enjoy.

Before you enjoy the following pages, I would like to say a few thanks and to also put into context the year the staff and students in the department have faced.

I would first of all like to express my sincere thanks to all those directly involved in the department in what has undoubtedly been an extremely challenging year. Mrs Thornton, Mrs Onuorah, Mrs McCullagh, Mrs Elliott and Mr Owen for the superb contribution made to the department, particularly across Key Stage 3.

Thank you for inspiring our next crop of amazing artists. Miss King and Miss Vallis, our art trainees.

In a year when you “should” have been honing the “art of the class room” you have done incredibly, not only in rising to this challenge but also mastering the “digital class room” too. Mr Holt our former technician. Thank you for all your contributions with the students.

I trust you are enjoying more time in the studio painting. Miss Renavent, our new technician, who only joined us a month or so ago. Thank you in particular for creating this incredible online catalogue and for the tight deadline to do so.

I wouldn’t know where to start! Finally, to Mrs Bose, a huge thank you as always for everything that you have done this year with all your students, not just the exam classes we see on the following pages.

Your adaptability and positivity has been incredible.

Enjoy a well-earned rest! Students, what you have created this year has been nothing short of remarkable!

You should all be very proud of everything you have achieved.

We are!

We know that some of you have had numerous periods of isolation. Although this in itself has not been uncommon this year, in a subject that heavily relies of access to space and materials this has added significant hurdles to overcome.

Resilience and independence are words highly prized in education.

You have shown this in abundance. To year 11 and 12, we look forward to seeing you next year. Y13, thank you for all you have given this year. Well done! All the best for the future, whatever it holds for you. Stay positive and stay safe.
