Welcome to

BANGKOK Culture Phenomena and heaven for shoppers Bangkok - a monster of a city that feeds on the lost-consuming tourists who wander around in a jumble of shopping malls and markets. To cope they have to pause at any of the city’s many thousands restaurants, five-star, or at any of all the small food-trucks along the sidewalks. Bangkok is obviously one of the world’s best place to eat tasty Thai food. There are so many street vendors selling food that it can be difficult to spot thereally good ones. Also, some of them cater mostly to tourists, and the food may not be top quality since tourists are usually easier to satisfy than the locals. Those who still have energy takes a tour around Bangkoks all temples, some dating more than 100 years back in time, and other attractions, for there is a lot to see and do. For families with children, there is a plethora of fun and interesting places to see and visit. When the sun gives up the night life takes over and i can promisse that not many cities around the world slaps Bangkok fingers in that respect! In almost every street corner bars, clubs and eateries has put their traces of what is today one of the world’s top cities in terms of both to eat in and nightlife, in the sense of good and evil! Bangkok is linked by a chaotic road network changing direction dependent intensity of day. And they have used all other possible routes, underground, over ground and on the water with Chao Phraya River and its vast network of tributaries are used for transporting people and transporting goods. It is said that a visit to Thailand is complete only after you visited Bangkok. Chinatown

During the 1600s left many workers left China to seek their fortunes in Siam. Some of them managed and has corporate empires that still run in the family. Chinatown today is the place where they retained ties to the home country and where it is still going komers in large format. During sora neon signs sold gold and jade, while restaurants serving shark fin soup. Want to see the active Chinatown, you should be here in daytime when the sens confusion is total. Towards evening food markets takes over the same intensity. “Little India” is located at the intersection Phahurat and Chakraphet. Sukhumvit is the ultimate place for those looking for entertainment, shopping, good restaurants and endless gridlock. It is not only one of Thailands longest roads, its also one of the longest roads in the world! The Sukhumvit area of Bangkok is easily accessible from the Skytrain-Sukhumvit Line, which runs from Mo Chit through the Silom Line interchange at Siam Square up to Bearing on Soi 105. The Bangkok Metro’s Sukhumvit Station interchanges with the Skytrain at Asok. Sois are numbered from West to East, odd numbers branching off North-East of Sukhumvit, and even numbers branching off South-West. CHINATOWN

At one time this was the place to erect European traders unloaded their goods. They vanished long time ago, and instead the area has been filled with both Indian and Muslim merchants. At the same time the hotel industry saw its chance, when shipping decreased several hotels bought the land facing the river and built hotels with great views.

Thewet & Dusit

Relatively calm parts of the “City where Thewet (on the river side) represents the most out of life with markets and bustle sites. This was once a great place for orchards. Today you can visit the world’s largest teak building, Vimanmek Palace, Dusit Zoo or the Royal Thai Elephant Museum. With its wide boulevards, manicured parks, imposing palaces and statues dedicated to the former kings, Dusit has a knack for making you secondguess what city you’re in. The nearest Sky-train station is Victory Monument and Phaya Thai, but then you have to walk a bit.

Khao San Road, 400 meter long

Khao San Road, a multitude of restaurants, small shops and cheap accommodation Robinson department stores is a typical example of a department store in the middle class. There is usually a big grocery store combined with their “fashion mall” where clothes, shoes and accessories are sold for both men, women and children. Robinson often have different clearance sales and the amounts of discounts on branded products. There are a total of 9 Robinson Department stores in Bangkok. Open: 10 am. to 9 pm. Khao San Road “Khaosan” translates as “milled rice”, a reminder that in former times the street was a major Bangkok rice market. Initially a favorite street for back-packers (first guesthouse opened 1982).Today the area includes several different streets, although the Khao San Rd. is the more lively of them. Cheap food, cheap accommodation and decent shopping to affordable prices. Today, families with children find their way here, and prices changed slightly upwards, but still cheap. You’ll find clothing, jewellry, bags, electronics and more. 4

Patpong Night Market opens up each afternoon at 5 pm. and distract from the otherwise more obfuscation activities on the street, the go-go bars. The entire area is lined with small shopping stalls in the middle of the street while the bars continues its activities without appearing to be disturbed in the slightest by the commerce outside. Shortly after they built up the stalls tourists begin flock to the area and haggle as much as possible. Some are interested in fake Gucci handbags while others look curiously about after that copied branded watch for a fraction of the price compared to the real thing. But be careful, it is easy to be fooled if you are not aware of the game rules. The first stals in the beginning of the street, often have higher prices then those further inside. Stroll around for a while before you decide to start negotiating on the price of your new gold glimmering rolex! Beware of the bars along the street, it has happened that customers received bills that resembles a small national debt.

Siam Square Across the street from Siam Paragon are Siam Square. An entertainment area that is very popular among Bangkok’s young people. Despite Siam Square is located in Bangkok it feels very Japanese, and the feeling of actually being in a small part of Tokyo arises quickly. Siam Square is colorful with signs and shops of all colors, happy and cute motifs and figures, big screens and funny advertising. www.siam-square.com TIP - try to focus your shopping into one area, or an area at a time! Visitors to Bangkok often get an overwhelming experience. There is Sky-Train, subway, taxi, tuk-tuk and canal boats. All unbeatable in its own way, depending on where you’re traveling, once you learned the system and got over the initial fear of using them. A visit to the Royal Palace can be good to combine with the Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho), a trip on the riwer Chao Phraya as well as shopping around Khao San Road. If you still have time and energy, visit Chinatown, to explore the streets around Yaowarat Rd. and the throng of small shops there. Best time to visit Chinatown is evening when all restaurants opened along the sidewalks.

This is where those who are looking for contemplation, serenity and people who like to execise. Mae Klong Railway Market is an extraordinary experience. It is located right on the railroad tracks. Eight times a day the train chugs right through the market and the vendors have to take a break from their business to pull in umbrellas and groceries to make room for the train. It may seem strange to put a market in the middle of a train track, but the market was actually here before it was decided that it would be pulled a train track right through it. -Try to arrive early, it lingers then not long before the train whistle sounds and vendors begin to move anything that is too close to the track (11.00). Immediately after the train has passed they reset everything again and it is once again impossible to ensure that a train just passed. Mae Klong Market is located in Ratchaburi 20km from Damnoen Saduak. Bus 467 every hour for 20 Baht per person. Floating market about two hours from Bangkok, the small town Damnoen Saduak and its famous floating market. In its elongated boats the vendors paddles trough the canals and sell everything from fruit and vegetables to souvenirs and different snacks. The market opens at 07:30 every day until 12:00. If you come very early you can experience real trading. Later on more tourist commerce takes over. Around 09.00, however it is full speed. The boats are crowded and can accommodate both Thais and curious tourists, all with cameras at the ready! From Bangkok, you can take a minibus to Damnoen Saduak from Victory Monument. It costs around 100 Baht / person and takes about two hours. From Damnoen city, you can take a tuk-tuk to the market located two kilometers from the city. From Bangkok, there are excursions to book to get here, it costs 250 Baht per person. For more information and reservations. www.greenhousebkk.com

The ancient city of Ayutthaya... AYUTTHAYA - A World Heritage Site - The town got its name from “Ayodhya” which means unbeatable in Sanskrit. The kings came and went, no less than 33 kings of various Siamese dynasties came to reign over the city’s heyday in the years 1350 - 1767. Each of the kings contributed during his time at the city’s great cultural treasures that still are on display. The city was founded around 1350 by King U-Thong and quickly became a place of commerce, politics and culture. Today, only the ruins are left after it was destroyed by the Burmese in 1767 who were displaced couple years later. Ayutthaya was surrounded by a 12 kilometer long wall that was five meters thick and six meters high, and boasted 99 gates. The roads were covered by brick and mud with channels made sure that the town got its water. -Ayutthaya Is a perfect place to make a day trip for those who want away from exhaust fumes and congestion in Bangkok. The city is often included as part of a packaged day trip from Bangkok which usually includes a pair of second stop, Bang Pa In Palace and Bang Sai Royal Art Center. It is relatively easy to do day trip on your own, so you can walk at your own pace and probably spend less money.

Nakhon Luang 20 km. Bang Ban 10 km. Bang Pa Han 13 km. Pha Chi 35 km. Wang Noi 20 km. Bang Sai 35 km. Maharat 25 km.

Ayutthaya It’s hard not to like Ayutthaya and the town is so much more than ancient ruins, even if it is them most people come to see. The hotels are just as interesting. 3-star Tony’s Place Beds & Breakfast in the city is one of the favorite hotels. Price from 500THB / night also makes it feel nice. Close to restaurants and bars so you do not have to tear on your shoes! Most hotels in Kanchanaburi have lower prices if you compare to many other touristic places in Thailand. More luxury Classic Cameo costs from 2 000Thb / night.

Suggestion 1. Start the day with a a trip on the river. It costs about 1,000 baht for a couple of hours / 2 pers. At a couple of places you visit temples to foot so you dont have to see them by tuk-tuk. 2. Rent a tuk-tuk to see the different areas that you consider to be the most scenic (consult with the tuktuk driver if you are unsure. It is suggested; Wat Chaiwatthararam and Wat Choeng Phanan (from river tour). Tuk-tuk; Wat Lokayasutharam (Reclining Buddha), Wat Mahathat, Wat Phra Si Sanpeth, Wat Racha Burana and Wat Yai Chai Mongkhol which has the Reclining Buddha. Get to Ayutthaya with bus from the Northern Bus station in Bangkok takes around 1.5 hours. If you rather travel by minivan they departs from the Victory Monument, BKK.

Wat Phra Si Sanphet Wat Phra Si Sanphet is the most beautiful and historically important temple in ancient Ayutthaya. The three large chedis and many smaller does this wat - also known as the King’s Temple - one of the most impressive sights in the ruined city. Two of the big chedis, central and eastern was built in 1492 by King Rama Thibodi II to house the ashes of his father and older brother. His own ashes are buried in the third chedi, built in 1530 by his son and royal successor, King Boromaraja IV.

Wat Mahatat Across the street from Wat Ratchaburana, we find Wat Mahathat as it is said that King Ramesuen built in 1384. The central prang here is one of the old city’s most impressive buildings. Around 1625 the upper part broke down and was restored in 1633, and became a 4 meters higher. Later it collapsed again and only the corners remain. In 1956 a secret chamber in the ruins was discovered with treasures such as gold jewelry, a gold coffin containing a relic of the Buddha, and fine china porselain.

Wat Chai Monkhol

On the eastern outskirts of Ayutthaya we will find the exceptionally interesting Wat Yai Chai Mongkol. The massive chedi rises as a square base which in turn is surrounded by four smaller chedis. The temple was built in 1357, under King U-Thong, who was awarded the monks of a particularly strict regime trained in Ceylon, members who still live there. To find this wat, cross the Pasak River and take the Bangkok road, turn right about 300 m off the railway. Floating Market - Ayutthaya

Phra Nakhon Sri Ayutthaya floating market is built on a large pond with an island in the middle. The main purpose is to make us remember Thai traditional culture with clothing, architecture, art and culture, as well as food for the visitors. More than 200 shops that offer food and goods for shopping. Admire the traditional beliefs and take a boat tour around the pond of 20THB. The market is in the same compound as Ayothaya Elephant Village so you can get a 20-minute elephant ride around the ancient Wat Mahaeyong, BT100 per person. The market operates daily from 10:00 to 09:00.

Sky Bar - lebua at State Tower

Roof top bars Although I believe that the food on the simple carts around on the city’s sidewalks are both cheap and really tasty, a visit at one of takrestauranger in Bangkok is an experience beyond the ordinary. The price situation can not be compared between them, if you’re visiting roof restaurants you need to take the big checkbook with you. The most famous is the Lebua at State Tower (from The Hangover Part 2 movie), Vertigo and Moon Bar at Banyan Tree and Ocrave Rooftop bar 57 at the Marriott Hotel.

Saxophone Jazz & Blues

Jazz & blues Bangkok’s most famous jazz club for almost 30 years. With relaxed and rustic furnishings, saxophone is something unlike any other among musical pubs in Bangkok. Saxophone has long been the favorite of expatriates and locals alike and is also a place for upcoming Thai musicians. Address: 3/8 Phayathai RD, close to Victory Monument Open: 6pm to 2am. www.saxophonepub.com Cheap Charlie Bar Along Sukhumvit Soi 11, Bangkok’s premier party street, we find a whole bunch of good restaurants mixed in with bars of varying style and places where to dance. One quite different from all the others is the legendary Cheap Charlie bar located on the left side about 100 meters down Soi 11. The bar is decorated with all sorts of knick knacks, skulls, tribal masks and other strange curios things and to glimpse the bartender behind can often be difficult. The perfect place to start the evening with a few cold beers and a couple of tequila! The toilet is a chapter in itself, come here and see for yourself! Opening hours: Every day except Sundays 17:00 to 24:00. Location: Sukhumvit Soi 11, BTS Nana Jazz & blues The Q Bar has long been well known for its outstanding list of touring DJ’s with their thumping dance floor choices, music ranging from hip hop and electronic to all the latest grooves. However, the former owner and founder recently sold and moved on. Fortunately, the Q Bar remained but now known as Q Up, and hopes to remain on Soi 11. The club features a spacious terrace and a large dance floorn and tasty drinks are served by some well trained mixologists. facebook.com/QUpBangkok 4

Golf around BANGKOK Bangkok - The city of angels are in the greatest vibrant and alluring. Everywhere you will find someone selling something, food, clothes, cheap copies of bags, watches and other goods. Almost half of the city’s population makes its living from selling food or things on the streets. And there is so much to experience. If you take a trip along the Chao Phraya River you will find The Grand Palace, Wat Pho and the Temple of Dawn. Golf may not be the first thing you think of when you book your trip to Thailand and are about to stay in Bangkom for a few days. Swimwear, sunscreen and a bundle of spending money for shopping is usualy on top of the bag when you pack. But there are incredibly many fine golf courses (about 70) in the area around Bangkok. They range from famous clubs such as Alpine Golf Club and the Bangkok Golf Club to courses that are not quite as well known to most of us. It is also cheaper to play golf in Bangkok when comparing to courses at more tourist hot spots such as Phuket and Samui. Often you need to book in advance to get the start time, especially during weekends and other holidays, when the tee-time is spent like hotcakes. We have listed the corses that should not be missed when visiting the city and you want to get away from all the exhaust gases and shopping stress. Fore!

The course has some smallish occasional water hazards to negotiate and fewer than usual bunkers that are a bit larger than normal, and there are several dogleg holes demanding that you position your tee shots carefully. With challenging sloping fairways and greens.

The uniqueness of Wangjuntr is the two wounderful course designs and also the pristine landscape that has been left in place. The course is landscaped in an area with rubber trees and pineapple, sugarcane and cassava plantations and converted into two golf courses and a beautiful golf resort.
