FRIENDS OF LAVERTON CREEK

On a very cold Winter morning on Wednesday 13th July twenty one member of the Karen community of Laverton in partnership with Hobson’s Bay City Council, Friends of Laverton Creek, Laverton Community Hub and Melbourne Water planted 250 trees and grasses along Laverton Creek. The trees and grasses were planted along the creek area adjacent to Bladin Street to beautify the area and provide a healthy recreational environment.

The group brought along their shovels and picks to assist in the enhancement of tis once neglected open space, worked tirelessly for three hours and then joined together for a BBQ lunch to celebrate their efforts.

On behalf of the Wyndham Community & Education Centre, I would like to thank Andrew Webster and Pat O’Brien from the Hobson’s Bay City Council for inviting our Women’s Group to be a part of the project. FRIENDS OF LAVERTON Friends of Laverton Creek, Hobsons Bay City Council Conservation Team, Wyndham Community & Education Centre's Hobsons Bay Karen Women's Group, Laverton Community Hub, and Melbourne Water planted 250 trees and grasses along Laverton Creek in Laverton last month. Twenty members of the local Karen community braved the weather and brought along their shovels and picks to assist in the enhancement of this once neglected open space. Although the number of plants speak for themselves, it was the enthusiasm and smiling faces that the volunteers brought with them that made the day such a success. Well done to all!

Next Planting Day

Please join the volunteers from our local community at our next planting day at Bladin Street bridge entrance to McCormack Park on Saturday, 19th September at 10.00am. FREE BBQ.
