APRIL 2007 - ISSUE No. 274
Picture & Story by Bob Hawkins
“GIANT GOLF BALL” On the approaches to many towns around Australia giant sculptures may be seen which display an image representing the local industry or tourism attraction. Motorists travelling along Sayers Road, Laverton North would be forgiven for thinking that the giant “golf ball on tee” was symbolic of the area, being adjacent to the RAAF Williams Golf Club. The new structure is the almost completed new state-of-the-art Weather Radar to be commissioned in approximately three months. Replacing the 15 year old model it is part of a $62.5 million upgrade to the Weather Bureau's equipment, the new radar will improve forecasts and collect more accurate data on weather patterns giving much improved radar pictures of the weather systems as they move into the metropolitan area and beyond and to be able to analyse very severe thunder storms, the intensity and whether large hail stones are imminent and will also appear on the website.
ALL WELCOME: As stated last month Around Lavertons A.G.M is on the 16th April at 12 Crown Street Laverton with a 10am start.
