Talks are at an impasse and they haven’t even started between the Township of McNab-Braeside and the Arnprior Library. McNab-Braeside council met Monday to discuss its strategy when negotiating new service agreements with Arnprior dealing with library, recreation facilities and the sewer-water system on Division Street. Councillors agreed they want to help literacy and promote healthy living among their constituents. And they don’t mind paying a price for it. Problem is, they said to convince taxpayers the payments are fair the library must provide more detailed information on who from the township is using it. “The library is emotive. There will be riots within McNab-Braeside if we don’t get an agreement,” Mayor Mary Campbell said. “The only issue is that – it’s not about money – but about accountability.” Township CAO Noreen Mellema sent a letter in June asking the library to forward names and addresses of township residents who use the library. Chief librarian Karen DeLuca responded by citing the Provincial Privacy and Ontario Library acts as preventing her from releasing the information to anyone. See ‘TOWNSHIP, LIBRARY’ Page 3

GETTING A KICK OUT OF SOCCER Arnprior-McNab-Braeside #1 U-14 girls soccer team members, from left Skylar Philp, Megan McGrath and Morgan Martin, challenge for the ball in the playoff final game Aug. 10 at Dochart Park. The team lost a heartbreaker, 2-1 in overtime to Opeongo. However, it didn’t take the bloom off a brilliant regular season in which they captured the title with an undefeated 12-0-2 record. Traffic lights on overpass give pause DEREK DUNN derek.dunn@metroland.com
Traffic lights on both sides of the nearly constructed White Lake Road overpass have Arnprior Mayor David Reid shrugging his shoulders. Arnprior will have six sets of lights in the first two kilometres of its main entry
point, Reid said. “It’s very upsetting, actually,” said Reid of the design decision made years ago. “But after thinking about it, I have seen them at Terry Fox (Road) and other places. It could be to prevent queuing on the ramp.” See ‘NEW RAMPS’ Page 2
