METROPOINTE

AECOM worked closely with Arktura to design a creative office space in the tech center of Denver, Colorado, leveraging Arktura’s proprietary technology to array modules coordinate to dimensions needed to coordinate sprinkler integration as well as configuring complex span across glazing. Arktura created the Secare® pattern as a dimensional, modular screen, customized for the three story atrium space and lobby. With the lobby on the third floor above the atrium, allowing visitors to look down into the atrium from above. The verticality of the pattern was designed to mimic the vertical movement of the fountain in the center of the atrium and verticality of the custom teardrop-like light fixtures.

FOLONIS ARCHITECTURE SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA, USA

TESLA

At the crossroad of the Third Street Promenade and Santa Monica Place, with Michael W. Folonis Architects and Arktura’s Solutions Studio®’s guidance, Tesla developed a facade inspired by the namesake of the company, Nikola Tesla, and magnetic flux diagrams to wrap the exterior facade of their flagship auto showroom. Translating the inspired brief, Arktura utilized proprietary software to develop the complex curved custom exterior Graphic Perf® system into a synergetic graphic form to capture the relationship between magnetic flux and electron decay. The resulting facade visually impacts and filters heat and sunlight, and serves as a rain shield while representing the electric propulsion’s linear energy release.

Los Angeles-based firm Warren Techentin Architecture enlisted Arktura to design and manufacture its Elysian Fields exterior feature facade. The cladding comprised of Exterior Graphic Perf® designed in tandem with Arktura’s Solution Studio® to pay homage to nearby automotive body shops. The perforated and formed aluminum panels gently curve along Sunset Boulevard providing protection against the harsh sun. It supports flared voids to allow the inclusion of expansive sliding windows for the residences within. In keeping up with the everchanging eclectic character of Los Angeles, this project provides a parametric poem of perforations to the neighborhood it graciously nests within.

A synthesis of form, pattern, and light generated from local data inputs and mapping overlays throughout a city’s rich history. The topographic construction represents the growth of a dynamic city as it has been shaped by changing waterways, population change, and the resulting landscapes. The undulating shapes were achieved by curating overlays and intersections from the mapped geological and civic features of the city’s harbor region over time. The result was a intricate pattern of nodes and connections depicting the urban fabric as it relates to the human landscape. The fabricated aluminum structure was created with sophisticated digital tools and assembly methods associated with aerospace standards - while the industrial bronze finish was intended to generate warmth and echo the rich history of this northeast coastal region. 39

LAX TERMINAL 6

Montalba Architects & Corgan Associates requested that Arktura’s Solutions Studio® capture the bustling vibrancy of L.A.’s iconic Sunset Boulevard in a lighting system, as part of LAX’s T-6’s “swanky” $70.5-million makeover. The illumination drives the terminal’s experience and is organized by interconnected pathways that lead passengers on their journey. Arktura proposed, designed, and directed a simple install of the terminal’s innovative lighting system consisting of a winding steel structure and a powder-coated stainless steel mesh diffuser masking the LED illumination. This project solution by Arktura afforded Westfield the facility to debut its latest transport hub before the deadline and under-budget.

Inspired by double curved surfaces, this corporate cafe lighting feature mimics wave-like movement, using credit cards and LED lights. Built for a Confidential Financial Company, the lighting feature has over 1,400 hanging points with unique rod lengths supporting 496 LED lights and 960 credit cards. The feature’s credit card-sized LED lights were engineered with seamless acrylic box enclosures, to disperse light evenly, creating a consistent glow. Its unique rods were made to ensure a double curved appearance was achieved while simultaneously hiding all wiring from view. The entire feature came together as a gradient of credit cards moving across the ceiling. This unique lighting feature pushed the limits on ceiling fixtures, lighting capabilities, and panel design.

FRAMEWORKS KIOSK

This cellular structure invented by Arktura for Frameworks, Dallas, builds on specialized algorithms and new manufacturing strategies developed for earlier Solutions Studio® projects and represents a dynamic leap forward in manufacturing and design capabilities. The kiosk’s complex double curvature was achieved through uniquely formed planar surfaces, laser cut and sculpted on an eighteen-axis metal forming machine, and assembled with a total of 9,500 rivets through 14,000 points of alignment. The cell apertures vary in size, allowing gradations in light to accentuate the display areas, while the tapered form organically defines a point-ofsale location. Arktura’s exceptionally precise execution and comprehensive planning allowed this self-supporting kiosk to be prefabricated off site, shipped as a system and assembled in a matter of days.

ADOBE 100 HOOPER

Adobe’s growth in San Francisco necessitated a new campus a few blocks away from their original office location at Adobe Townsend. Gensler worked with Adobe to design a new campus that would complement the warm brick and wood tones of their original building while giving the new campus a fresh and modern feel. The new campus is focused on supporting the varying needs of Adobe’s employees with alternative flexible work spaces, collaborative meeting rooms, and amenities such as a juice bar, full-service cafe, dining hall, all-hands space, VR room, and a wellness center. Arktura provided standard and custom solutions for these spaces. Vapor® Cluster Dense and Graphic Perf® panels customized with the Adobe logo add texture and character to the lobby, the main point of entry for the campus. To carry out this vision, Interior Architects restructured the interiors, creating open floor plans as a solution to the minimal natural lighting available. As a solution to the low ceilings, Interior Architects used Atmosphera® Pulse, a geometric metal cloud, as a ceiling feature for the lobby and shared kitchen space. Atmosphera® Pulse also served to distribute lighting and conceal mechanical systems above it. The expansive, open-plan houses a full-time staff, and its flexibility was paramount to the project’s success to aid in transformability. These work areas are collectively lit to accommodate any user sensitivities and demarcated by a faceted and folded, diagrid acoustic ceiling treatment, SoftFold®, and dampens the sometimes stress-inducing sounds. TIMBERLAND

Iconic outdoor lifestyle brand Timberland transformed its 20,000 sqft headquarters into a collaborative, energetic, and progressive environment that exemplifies the culture of Timberland with the help of IA Interior Architects. Bringing the outside in was a main focus for the space, reinforcing Timberland’s belief that a greener future is a better future and their commitment to create better product, stronger communities, and a greener world. To accomplish this, the architectural language employed throughout the space takes cues from Timberland’s new retail design and uses reflective materials, organic forms, and textured layers to bring nature indoors. The overarching concept informed the layout of the space with a winding “trail” that leads through the office, passing groves of activity along the way. Oversized community tables are nestled in a grove of trees, communicating Timberland’s eco-leadership through materials, commitment to plant 50 million trees by 2025, and manifestations of future thinking relative to product and designs. Delta Drop® 4x4 adds faceted depth to the space while integrating lighting with Arktura’s backlight, creating a sparkling effect. The new design reflects Timberland’s passion for nature and vision for the future. It provides a creative, collaborative, energetic space filled with light, nature-inspired design, and living elements - truly bringing the brand’s values to life.
