Forestry Day at the Capitol proves to be a success AFA Foresters, Loggers and forest products representatives gathered in Little Rock on Tuesday, January 24 to celebrate Forestry Day at the Capitol. The day included exhibits from 10 forestry-related organizations, a luncheon attended by 200 members of the 91st General Assembly and legislative staff, and recognition on the floor of the House of Representatives. State Representative Ken Bragg (R-Sheridan) sponsored House Resolution 1009, which was adopted by the House, to recognize the economic and environmental contributions of the forestry community in Arkansas.

Exhibitors, that included partnering agencies and Arkansas forest product companies, visited with legislators at Forestry Day on January 24. The day included a seedling giveaway and lunch hosted by our exhibitors for legislators and their staff. Visitors to the Capitol were able to take home tree seedlings courtesy of the Arkansas Forestry Commission and ArborGen, as well as copies of the 2017-2018 House and Senate Legislative Maps, one of the most helpful reference tools available for identifying members of the General Assembly. Thanks to all of our sponsors, exhibitors and partners that made Forestry Day a success.

House Resolution 1009, sponsored by State Representative Ken Bragg (R-Sheridan) was adopted on the House Floor to recognize Arkansas’ forestry industry and its importance to the state of Arkansas.

AFA offers Emerging Leaders Program

AFA

What is the AFA Emerging Leaders Program? The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) is a recognition-based group that is focused on the development of young business professionals through leadership training, social interactions, and educational opportunities.

What is the goal of the Emerging Leaders Program?

Things millennials want out of an organization: sense of purpose community outreach networking

The goal of the ELP is to build the leadership and professional skills of its members, who are associated directly or indirectly with the forestry community, so they are ready to assume future roles as leaders of the Arkansas Forestry Association. These skills are developed through programs and speakers that specialize in leadership training, communication and other forest business related activities. It’s important that we provide a pathway of training and opportunity for the millennial generation to become more involved in the association, as this generation makes up the largest population sector in America at 98 million strong.

How can I be a member of the Emerging Leaders Program? A prospective candidate of the Emerging Leaders Program must be a member of the Arkansas Forestry Association and fill out the application online at this link. https://form.jotform.com/70153795631155

APPLICATION DEADLINE: February 22 The Emerging Leaders Program targets those in the beginning stages of their careers. Applications will be reviewed by the Emerging Leaders Program Committee and successful applicants will be notified by the Committee upon acceptance. The Program will have a 20-person limit for the first year.

How often does this group meet? The Emerging Leaders Program typically meets multiple times a year. Meetings will take place at various locations in the state and will include a networking event that coincides with the Arkansas Forestry Association Annual Meeting in Little Rock. Plans for 2017 include tours of member facilities to learn more about different facets of Arkansas’ role in the forest products industry and meetings with forest industry experts to gain a better understanding of the impact forestry has on our economy and the future of the forestry industry.
