RETURN INTERNS RETURN INTERNS

Department 2024: Transformation and Shared Services

Department 2023: Department of Education

Favorite Event: ADE Summit with the Arkansas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (2023); Found great enjoyment in advocating for and informing the public about the achievements of ASBVI students throughout the school year.

I chose to return to the MyARInternship program because of its invaluable insight into Arkansas state government, which aligns perfectly with my career aspirations in public service. Having experienced the program's unparalleled hands-on experience, I was driven to return to the program to deepen and diversify my understanding of state governance, legislative processes, and policy implementation. The mentorship and experiences that I have been afforded through this program has undoubtedly been paramount to my professional development and success

Department 2024: Department of Military

Department 2023: Department of Public Safety

Favorite Event: Interning with the Department of Military (2024); Learning the ins and outs of government, especially with my time at the department of the military.

I thought it was a good experience last year, so I wanted to keep that train going and get paid while doing it.

Department 2024: Office of the Inspector General

Department 2023: AEDC - Grants Division

Favorite Event: Meeting county judges/mayors with the AEDC (2023); A lot of people (including me) care a lot about the political side of state government, but this internship showed me that most issues have little to do with politics. People care that their drinking water is clean, their roads are safe and in good condition, their nursing homes have good generators and ACs.

I had the opportunity to learn a lot about what state agencies do for the people of this great state, and network with some of the most amazing minds in Arkansas. It’s a wonderful program that puts interns in a position to do meaningful work and not the regular coffeefetcher, copy-maker intern tasks. I’ve loved this internship - the people, the work, the opportunities, and experiences. I have made friendships, memories, and connections that I’ll cherish for a lifetime. Oh…and this internship pays!

Department 2024: Department of Education

Department 2022: Department of Commerce (ADFA)

Favorite Event: Federal Courthouse with Judge Rudofsky (2024); Sitting in on a federal trial provided great insight on how courts are run on a day to day basis and what the relationship is like between the judge, defendant and their party, and the prosecution.

I chose to return because I want to pursue a career in public service. The internship program provided lots of opportunities for networking people in a wide range of backgrounds. I chose to come back to further those connections and make new ones as I get closer to my career.

Interview

“I have greatly enjoyed my time during this internship. I was apprehensive about being placed in DHS, but OAH is an amazing facility that is passionate about the justice and protection of the vulnerable. My supervisor is an incredible mentor who has enriched my understanding of child maltreatment law, and I look forward to applying these insights in my future.”

“The world promises you comfort, but you were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness.” - Pope Benedict XVI - included in the Forensic Pathology presentation given by Dr. Theodore Brown
