The conference is designed to help publishers, general managers, circulation directors and audience development professionals learn great ideas for generating new readership and revenue.
Because of the importance of this annual event, the Arkansas Newspaper Foundation offers grants to APA members to help cover registration and hotel costs. Four continuing education grants of $200 each are available, with preference given to first-time participants. Each media organization is eligible for only one grant. If not all grants are awarded based on those criteria, awards will be made based on the order that applications are received. To apply, visit ArkansasPress.org. Newspapers across the country will focus on the importance of journalism to their communities next week during the 78th annual observance of National Newspaper Week. This year’s theme for National Newspaper Week is: “Journalism Matters, Now More than Ever.” Organizers are asking local newspapers to participate in National Newspaper Week by publishing features, columns, cartoons and promotional advertisements. (NAM), which sponsors National Newspaper Week, has made a variety of resources available to newspapers. Visit NationalNewspaperWeek.com to view the “content kit” that contains a variety of materials for use at no charge. “It seems like every day we learn of another example of why journalism matters so much to our democracy and to our communities we serve,” said Ashley Wimberley, executive director of the Arkansas Press Association. “As
our industry battles politically-charged commentary, it is so important that we all take the time to remind our readers about the value of good journalism and how our newspapers and their employees are such an intricate part of the fabric of a community.” Wimberley encouraged publishers and editors to take advantage of the resources available.
