esa podiatric practice offers comprehensive care

In July 201 , Dr. Thomas Chambers took over Foot Ankle Wellness in Mesa. He quickly added Dr. Max evingston to the practice and together they provide a wide range of services, including a revolutionary nonsurgical bunion treatment.

The practice was previously run by another doctor and I took over, says Dr. Chambers. We re adding our own twist to it and have added services. He grew up in Mesa, but most recently was practicing in Santa Fe, New Mexico for the last four years. Dr. evingston was most recently practicing in the Denver, Colorado area.

Doctors Chambers and evingston s wives are cousins, so it was easy for the duo to combine talents and decide to practice out of the same office.

His specialized methods of treating bunions and hammertoes are those that he learned from a doctor and teacher in China. He saw that his patients were getting excellent results and was soon treating patients who were flying in to see him from across the nited States, Germany and Canada.

To my knowledge, we are the only two in the nited States doing this treatment, adds Dr. Chambers. Imagine yourself enjoying a fun day of working at a caf , or lounging and enjoying coffee and a cupcake, or even playing board games and listening to music with friends.

Now imagine those scenarios surrounded by 20 loving adoptable cats that want to hang out right along with you. That is a Gattara Cat ounge and Boutique that opened in May 2017 in Tempe.

The cat lounge idea is one that is popular in other countries and is catching on in the .S. The concept of a cat lounge is to have people come and visit with cats and enjoy some relaxation. The first cat caf opened in Taiwan, explains a Gattara owner, Melissa Pruitt. From there, they opened up in Japan and all over because those residents can t have cats since their apartments are so small. The difference with those lounges is that those are housecats and they are not up for adoption like they are at a Gattara.

Prior to opening a Gattara, Pruitt worked in property management for 20 years before shifting gears and opening a Gattara. Even when I was doing property management, I was still rescuing cats, Pruitt says. I was cat-themed that you could possibly want, Pruitt says. ou can get cat mugs, t-shirts, cat nip, wine for cats always the cat lady I would get them fixed and find them homes. Paint nights are also popular. Participants bring their own spirits to enjoy while they create paintings. We have a teacher that comes in and we have cats helping you out, Pruitt explains. Past events have also included cat-aoke and a cat prom. Birthday parties for adults and for kids are also popular events at a Gattara. r 2018

All of our cats here are up for adoption and people don t need to feel an obligation like, h my gosh, this cat is so pitiful, and I need to take it home, Pruitt says.

They re living a pretty good life. We want them to be adopted, but we want them to go to the best home to somebody that is going to have them forever. Since potential owners get to spend time with all the cats, they can get to know each cat s temperament in a relaxed atmosphere and discover how it might fit into their family and home.

Since the opening of a Gattara, more than 200 cats have been adopted out of the lounge. They were all my personal fosters and I miss them so much, Pruitt says.

But, she knows that she is doing good work in placing cats that may have otherwise be put down if they were not part of a cat rescue group.

We are partnered with All About Animals escue, she explains. They are a nonprofit and they are all fosterbased. They have almost 500 cats and kittens in foster right now.

Those cats are adopted out through PetSmart and Petco stores and at a Gattara. Cat adoption fees go directly back to All About Animals escue. An online photo gallery features adoptable cats and people are invited to come spend time with them at a Gattara Cat ounge Boutique.

How to Detect & Protect Against Workplace Bullying It is important to understand the signs and symptoms of a bully in order to help the victim and the victimizer deal with and exterminate the behavior.

Stories of workplace bullying are commonplace throughout the United States. In general, there are no legal repercussions for non-physical bullying except in specific cases, such as sexual harassment. In fact, bullying is a character trait that tends to be condoned in American society. Consider our national obsession – football. The object of this celebrated game is to get the ball to the other player’s goal, no matter what it takes trampling, hitting, pushing and screaming. If football is a metaphor for American society, then the winner is the person who pushes others out of the way and wins no matter the cost.

Bullies win by controlling situations and people around them. They crave power and the attention that comes from getting what they want.

The effects of working with a bully Adults have a difficult time performing their jobs effectively when subjected to bullying by a co-worker. It takes a toll physically because of our physiological responses to emotional stress. Typically, victims endure feelings of depression, guilt and shame, and they suffer sleep loss and fatigue. In some cases, victims begin to believe the bully’s behavior is warranted, and they develop feelings of worthlessness. They cannot complete tasks at the same level as others in their units.

The abuse takes a toll on victims in every way imaginable.

Are you a bully?

Being accused of being the bully can be difficult to accept.

You may believe your actions were unintentional, or a justified emotional response to provocation. Perhaps, you 56

see yourself as the only one in the office qualified to do anything right. However, whatever you have said or done, whether purposefully or not, you have created a culture of negativity for at least one person and you need to assess the situation and your role in it.

Symptoms that you may be the bully include: • Insulting a co-worker (remember, one person’s “joke” may be another's insult).

• Undermining another employee’s work by creating a hostile environment or perhaps by consistently calling his or her attention to flaws. (Bullies focus on a person, while constructive criticism focuses on a task.)

• As an employer, ignoring your employees’ suggestions.

• Humiliating your employee in front of others.

If any of these sounds like something that you may be doing, it is important to address this immediately with your victim. You may want to speak with your doctor about getting help, such as counseling, sensitivity training, anger management and other seminars.

It is important to understand the signs and symptoms of a bully in order to help the victim and the victimizer deal with and exterminate the behavior.

If you are a victim, diligently record workplace-bullying events. If you choose to make a formal complaint, you will be responsible for providing information should there be charges brought against the bully.

Personal power is a core leadership competency that everyone needs to develop before they can lead others. It has to do with being able to lead yourself.

We can help harness and learn to use our personal power by understanding and working on our Emotional Intelligence (EI) skills.

Emotional Intelligence is the ability to monitor one's own and others' feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them and to use this information to guide one's thinking and actions, according to psychologists John D. Mayer and Peter Salovey, who co-developed the concept and were two of the three authors of the Emotional Intelligence Test.

There are several emotional intelligence models. Here are Daniel Goldman’s five main EI mixed model constructs, and tips on how each of us can develop them.

Self-awareness: the ability to know one's emotions, strengths, weaknesses, drive, values, goals and recognize their impact on others while using gut feelings to guide decisions.

Tips for improving your social skills: · Pay attention to the feedback of friends and co-workers, good and bad. Train yourself to repeat the behaviors that get positive feedback and work on eliminating those that make people react negatively. · View constructive criticism as just that. When we become defensive, we don’t hear what can be very helpful feedback.

In order to become self-aware, you need to conduct an honest self-assessment to determine your strengths and weaknesses, such as powerlessness and inertia, and determine the root causes. You then need to create a plan that will help you overcome your fears, which are barriers to courage and stand between you and your successes.

· Learn to handle conflict and confrontation from a perspective of compassion and caring.

Your social skills refer to your interpersonal skills or your ability to relate and connect with people, which can motivate them to deploy discretionary efforts to help you achieve goals that are best accomplished via partnership and collaboration.

Personal coaching can be very helpful in learning to be more diplomatic in your interactions with others.

Empathy: considering other people's feelings, especially Put yourself in the other person’s shoes and try to see situations from their perspective. Might they be feeling fear? Shame? Guilt? How do those emotions make you feel? Understanding and addressing the concerns of others is essential to EI. Always consider how your actions or decisions may affect individuals.

Motivation: being driven to achieve for the sake of achievement.

What motivates you? What are your benchmarks for success? Once you achieve certain levels of success, you need to set new benchmarks to keep chasing personal excellence!
