AEMS has been advancing emergency care in Central Arizona since 1975. Arizona Emergency Medical Systems, Inc. (AEMS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to improving emergency medical services and trauma care across Maricopa, Pinal, and Gila counties. For five decades, AEMS has brought together EMS providers, hospitals, physicians, nurses, and public health partners to advance coordinated emergency care throughout Central Arizona.
We serve as the Central Arizona Regional EMS Coordinating Council.
Designated by the Arizona Department of Health Services as the Central Arizona EMS Coordinating Council, AEMS facilitates regional planning, develops and maintains prehospital treatment guidelines, and plays a central role in the hospital categorization process - ensuring facilities are appropriately designated to care for trauma, cardiac, pediatric, and other time-sensitive conditions.
AEMS is a vital resource for rural EMS systems.
We provide critical support to rural EMS agencies and fire departments, helping to address disparities in access to training, equipment, and specialized care. Through targeted education initiatives, funding programs, and advocacy, AEMS helps strengthen rural systems and improve outcomes for underserved communities.
We serve as an education, advocacy, and communication hub for EMS in Central Arizona. AEMS connects EMS stakeholders through regional meetings, conferences, and special events that foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing. We organize the EMS Odyssey Conference, now in its 25th year, and the EMS CE Fall Forum, both of which provide continuing education and highlight advancements in prehospital care. AEMS also promotes best practices, supports quality improvement initiatives, and serves as a trusted advocate for EMS priorities at the regional and state levels. Through open communication and coordinated planning, AEMS ensures that vital information flows across agencies, providers, and policymakers to strengthen the emergency care system.
We are proud to champion innovative training initiatives, including OBLS.
AEMS has partnered with the University of Connecticut (UConn) Health to expand access to Obstetric Life Support (OBLS) training throughout Central Arizona, with a special focus on rural and underserved areas. This evidence-based course prepares EMS providers to manage obstetric cardiac emergencies in the prehospital setting, enhancing maternal care and improving outcomes for pregnant patients in every corner of the region.
Honoring 50 years of service while continuing to shape the future of emergency care.
As we celebrate our 50th year, AEMS honors the legacy of those who built and strengthened emergency medical services in Central Arizona - while continuing to shape the future of EMS through innovation, collaboration, and a lasting commitment to the health and safety of our communities.
