Sen. Jeff Flake, UA President Ann Weaver Hart and a panel of water conservation experts planned for Arizona water conservation at the Water Policy Forum on campus on Friday. “We are told that there’s a good chance that by 2018, we will start to see the shortage declaration along the Colorado River,” Flake said. “It actually could come sooner than that.” Flake said Arizona is not in crisis right now, but when the state is in long-term drought, it will have to plan. “The University of Arizona’s faculty has a long-standing and world-leading expertise in water and arid land studies that uniquely positions the University of Arizona to address these supply challenges,” Hart said, “and to help our colleague community forge solutions that will benefit all Arizonans and citizens of the United States and around the world.” She added that Flake cares deeply about how Arizona manages its water supply and how the policy on supply affects the lives of Arizonans. “We very much appreciate the senator taking this time out of his incredibly busy schedule and for his focus and leadership on these critical issues,” Hart said. Marie Pearthree, deputy general manager for the Central Arizona Water Conservation District and strategic initiatives and public policy deputy general manager for the Central Arizona Project, said the Colorado River provides drinking water to about 40 million people and

Cheba Hut’s closing in early December came as a shock to many who thought it appeared to be doing a lot of business. “I was really surprised,” said Kevin Croneigh, a sophomore studying biomedical engineering and German. “I felt like every time I was there, it was really busy and they had good business.” On April 4, Cheba Hut reopened its doors under new management, and even though it has not officially reopened yet, business is going great, according to Rabbit, the new manager. Rabbit said business has been “insanely busy” and said he feels like the closing in December has helped with current business. “You take it away, and once you are like, ‘Hey guys, we are [reopened],’” Rabbit said, “then everyone wants to get their fix again.” A customer favorite at the Sixth Street location is the “White Widow,” which is “chicken breast smothered in our signature, home-grown ranch dressing, topped with mushrooms, bacon and provolone,” according to the Cheba Hut menu. Since it is under new management, new ideas will mix with old Cheba Hut traditions.

Smoothie Factory serving healthy alternatives BY BRANDI WALKER The Daily Wildcat

The Smoothie Factory opened a new location near the UA campus, providing students with a new healthy alternative. John Wilfert, Smoothie Factory owner, said the new Park Avenue store is a merger of Smoothie Factory and Red Mango Yogurt Cafe and Juice Bar under the

company BRIX Holdings. “It’s to create a healthy lifestyle for people so that they can have not only healthy food choices — because we’ll offer wraps, salads and flatbreads — but also we have a probiotic yogurt,” Wilfert said. “We have also, really healthy nutritional smoothies and supplements. We offer all the sports and nutritional supplements at the lowest price

guaranteed in town.” Marissa Ray, a Smoothie Factory employee at the new location, said Smoothie Factory has a variety of products, including pre- and post-workout supplements, protein-packed healthy snacks, BCAAs, vitamins, fat burners, and creatine. Ray said she is constantly learning about all the new supplements, in addition to how

the body works and processes. She said she loves that she gets to pass along this information and advice when people come into the store and ask questions. “When we first opened, a lot of people had never been here before,” Ray said. “We still have a lot of people who are coming in for the first time, but I’m starting to notice regulars now.
