Students apply to join UA president for breakfast JADE NUNES Arizona Daily Wildcat
UA students have the opportunity to apply to eat breakfast with university President Ann Weaver Hart and get to know her on a more personal level. The breakfast, which Hart and members of the Associated Students of the University of Arizona have been planning since the summer, will provide an open forum for 25 students interested in conversing with the president. The event, which is the first one for “The U of A Breakfast Club,” will be held on Feb. 14 at 8 a.m. in the Student Union Memorial Center Ventana room. There will be a second dinner on April 23. “Dr. Hart and I met for the first time in July and we talked about an event where she could get to know students on a more personal level,” ASUA President Katy Murray said. “She’s excited to start this tradition at the U of A.” Hart has a very demanding schedule, which made it a challenge to find a date when she was available to meet with students, Murray said. Hart didn’t want to advertise the breakfast

UA PRESIDENT ANN WEAVER HART WILL meet with 25 students and discuss topics of interest with them on Feb. 14 and again on April 23.
as having a specific agenda, but rather allow students to talk and discuss topics of interest and concern with their president, she added. “I think it may be something that future UA presidents continue,” Murray said. “I think it’s going to be a really cool event.” Bruce Shelton, a senior studying finance and ASUA
cabinet member expressed his excitement for the event. “I’m definitely going to go to the event,” Shelton said. “There are a lot of people excited for it.” Shelton has worked alongside Murray to plan the breakfast and he said he thinks it’s important for students to realize that Hart really cares about the students. “She’s really excited for it,”
Shelton said. “There really hasn’t been an event quite like this.” Some students said the event is a good way for Hart to show her dedication to students and their interests. “Obviously it would be ridiculous to try and get to know the entire student population,” said Melissa Midmore, a veterinary science sophomore. “But reaching out to get to know a wide variety of students and the things they’re interested in, whether it be school related or not, would be a good thing for her to do.” However, other students said they don’t think the event will offer much. “The UA president cannot really do much for me in my opinion,” said Simon Noudelman, a sophomore studying electrical engineering and math. “I pay my dues. I go to class and the only people I really need to know are my advisers and professors.” Students interested in going to the event must submit an application to the ASUA front desk by 5 p.m. today. Students will be notified if they have been selected to attend via email on Feb. 8.

UA alum tweets cleavage to boost athletics University officials reject affiliation with account KELSI THORUD Arizona Daily Wildcat
A new Twitter account promotes Arizona Athletics in an unconventional way. The account @ZonaBoobs was created less than a month ago and already has more than 1,400 followers. The account’s mission statement is “We support Wildcat Athletics by tweeting our girls in UofA apparel! No nudity. No affiliation with UofA.” The creator, a recent UA graduate who asked to remain anonymous, tweets pictures of women’s cleavage in UA apparel with the aim of promoting UA athletic events. “The primary goal of this account has always been to promote school spirit and support for not only our basketball teams, but for Wildcat athletics overall,” said the account’s creator in an email interview, ”Albeit this is a different and specialized kind of ‘support’.” The site is set up to be completely anonymous with both the account creator and the identities of the women in the photos hidden. Women are instructed to send in pictures of their cleavage in UA apparel to an email address, then the account holder posts the photos on the Twitter profile. So far, the account has tweeted more than 400 posts of women’s chests. “I think it’s just a fun thing and it’s something you can send in and be a little risky but your face isn’t showing so you’re totally anonymous,” said Angela Rasmusson, a frequent poster to the account and a third-year law student. “Everybody is really supportive of each other. Nobody’s been mean to me or said rude things, everyone is really positive.” This trend, known as #boobment, has recently swept the nation. The University of Kansas was the first college to start an account less than a year ago and currently has just over 34,000 followers. Now, most major universities and almost every Pac-12 school, have a #boobment account. The UA already has more followers than Cal, Oregon State, USC, Stanford, Washington, and Washington State combined. With more than 2,200 followers, ASU has the only Pac-12 #boobment page more popular than the UA’s. “I think it’s a cause that

Cadets praise women in combat decision RYAN REVOCK Arizona Daily Wildcat
A U.S. Army infantry unit from the 82nd Airborne Division leaves Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan well after sunset on its way to search a small town east of Kandahar for enemy combatants. Shortly after leaving the city, the lead truck hits a roadside bomb and is engulfed in flames, and immediately the convoy starts taking heavy machine gun fire from the west. The second truck in the convoy starts laying down fire on the enemy position with the truck’s
.50-caliber machine gun. The soldier in the turret engaging the enemy is a woman. This scenario could soon be a reality after a recent announcement from the U.S. Department of Defense that there are plans to remove “genderbased barriers to service.” Each branch of service is expected to submit a plan on how to enact this change by May 15, and the Department of Defense plans on having the military fully integrated by the beginning of 2016, according to a Department
