The Haskell Welcome Centre Project required in depth analysis and understanding of Haskell United Nations University as we aimed to create a space to host incoming and prospective students and their families. As well as being a centre for students this facility acts as an administrative office, a banquet hall, a lecture hall and has many other potential functionalities. This project required great attention to the cultural values of the students attending Haskell. There are many traditions and sacred spaces that must be respected especially as a visitor so those same values needed to be transferred to the visitor centre as well.
Sháńdíín is the Navajo word for sunlight. The inspiration for my design was the procession of sunlight and its representation of growth and prosperity.
Project Details: 3rd Semester - University of Kansas Location: 00 Indiana Street, Lawrence, KS Programs: Sketchup|Lumion
The “Classroom of the Future”, located on Zero Indiana Street, exists at a crossroads between a neighbourhood, the Lawrence water treatment facility, and Burcham park, and train track that borders the site. This project required the inclusion of a media and robotics lab, a wood shop, and two classrooms.
The overall theme of my project was about being “caught in the middle.” This concept reflects the placement of the site in the industrial as well as residential contexts. This theme is expressed through material choices, which vary from industrial to domestic, and the floor plan layout.

Haven Studio is a DesignBuild project I had the opportunity to be a part of during the Fall of 2022. The point of this project was to design a net zero home for the Solar Decathlon Competition whose goal to help students and members of the community learn more about sustainability and net zero or net positive architecture.
The simple design of Haven Studio is reminiscent of the drawing of a child when they create a picture of ‘home’. It is a familiar idea that evokes the sense of safety and belonging that gives Haven Studio its name.
As it is placed on the grounds of the KU East Hills Architecture Studio, it will be used as a space meant to educate community members of sustainability as a sort of model home with diagrams explaining what goes on behind the scenes and how the building works to be net positive. During the Competition the space will be utilized as a one room home, but afterwards the space will be converted to a secondary studio space.
This project provided us with the opportunities to learn multiple useful skills from project management and making connections through contacts with profes sionals to welding and learning other hands-on skills. It is a unique experience that pushed us to get out of the comfort zone.

The site for this project is located at the Haskell-Baker Wetlands in Eastern Lawrence. Owned by Baker University and partially by Haskell University, the wetlands provide information on various plants and animals and is an incredible way to observe nature while reminding visitors to respect what we share with the wildlife.
The design of this shelter is inspired by the trees and plants that grow in clusters to provide shelter for many birds and other animals. Similarly this shelter protects people from sunlight or rain while giving them a place to rest and still enjoy the views of whatever landscape it is placed in.
This shelter is designed as pods and can be placed anywhere with the smaller seating spaces arrayed around the central column however many times is nec- essary for the location
