ABOUT ME: I am particularly interested in the social role of architecture; my main goal is to have the opportunity to design spaces that can affect communities’ lives and be open to be experienced in the most unexpected ways by their inhabitants. The most passionate projects I was involved in concerned the dynamics of public spaces and the regeneration of critical portions of the urban landscape, especially in the field of cultural development. I have also been exploring the themes of sustainability and low energy architectural solutions. Beside architecture music is my greatest passion; I’ve been playing in several bands since 2006 and currently sing and play bass in a punk rock band. 05

Den Grønne Fabrik: the transformation of Willemoesgadekarréen in Aarhus Project leaders: Julie Schmidt-Nielsen, Marc Jay, Jeppe Kiib, Corrado Galasso Team: Paulina Cziba, Arianna Gori, Davide Piva, Maximilian Rietschel, Lewis Williams

‘Aarhus is currently undergoing an

exciting development, where new urban areas arise and old industrial areas find new use. This development goes hand in hand with an ambitious vision that the city’s culture and communities will help carry Aarhus into the future. (...) Our vision is that the Willemoesgade block - with a synergy between userdriven, temporary and permanent new programs - will be integrated in Aarhus’ overall strategy and become an attractive part of the city.” WE Architecture The project, part of an invited parallel competition, comprehends a mix of residential, leisure and business facilities, all of them focusing on a green-oriented culture. I was involved in the whole process of design from the definition of the general programme, to the design of plans and facades, to the final presentation material.

This building, proper industrial element of the block, features a concrete shed roof with skylights; the space is designed to let a central, continuous flow of public space, connected with the outer one, at the ground floor, while the upper floor hosts offices and services for creative and green-oriented businesses to rent.

The transformation of the stable building features the removal of the existing roof with the addition of three more housing floors; the existing ground floor hosts the administrative offices of the whole complex. The new addition is completely recognizable, with the use of high and narrow steel panels on the facade. On the left, the main building of the complex hosts differently shaped greenhouses on top of the stairwell, offering the inhabitants of the building a common green space to share and activities to enhance the creation of a green-oriented community.

The Generations’ House: combining a nursing home and a football club in Frederiksberg Project leaders: Claus Smed Søndergaard, Marc Jay, Julie Schmidt-Nielsen Team: Corrado Galasso, Elisa Gallazzi, Thea Gasseholm, Arianna Gori, Davide Piva, Olliver Stensballe

‘The Generations’ House is a project for a space combining an elderly care center and the Frederiksberg football club; the goal of the competition was to create a common ground for these functions, both with different needs and characters, having each of them benefit from the energies and values generated by the other. In our proposal the communion of synergies passes from the physical communion of spaces; the two facilities share, in fact, accesses, some services and the public circulation. At the ground floor, shared functions such as the lobby, the cafè and the activity center intersecate and joint, producing constructive relations between the two categories of users.

perimeter block, the XX shape allows on one side the creation of a private and safe courtyard for the elderly people, on the other opens the building towards the outside in pocket gardens differently oriented, the main ones of which point towards the football fields. At the same time, from a functional point of view, the shape perfectly meets the delicate requirements of the elderly care center, which is placed from the first to the fifth floor. Here, the core of the building around the courtyard hosts the administration and facilities of each department, and, on the corners, two big common terraces for the residents with reduced mobility that can therefore enjoy a more accessible outdoor area. The residents’ housing units, as well as the shared living rooms, are placed along the perimeter of the building, always offering an open view towards the outside. I was responsible for the overall “program breakdown” of the project, contributing to the study and development of the plans and the relations among the different functions.

The idea of the “crossing paths” starts from the shape: as an experimental junction of the classical H shape, typical of nursing homes, and the 14

“Midgård”: a community for elderly people in Farum Project leader: Claus Smed Søndergaard Project architect: Arianna Gori Status: Won competition

‘Midgård’ is one of the nine realms of

Nordic Mythology; in contrapposition with Asgard, the home of gods, it is the realm of mankind. It is also the title chosen by the community of seniors who commissioned this “seniorbofællesskab”, a co-housing destined to elderly people wishing to share their everyday life focusing on nurturing community and sustainability. The Midgård group commissioned a place with a distinct Nordic atmosphere, able to provide a welcoming and safe environment to the residents and appropriate spaces for a proactive, green-oriented community. The program of the project called for a perimeter block with balcony accesses to the apartments, a green courtyard, a west-facing garden and some common facilities and services, including a common house, placed at the ground floor of the southern wing, facing the busy road of Paltholmvej.

Multiskift: concept

development for Movia’s

new bus stops in Sjælland Project leaders: Julie Schmidt-Nielsen, Kasper Munk Team: Arianna Gori, Davide Piva, Lewis Williams

Movia is the agency responsible for the

public transport in Copenhagen and the Sjælland region; the company asked for a concept development for the device of the bus stop of the future, able to interact with users, give information and make the waiting time valuable. The proposal includes tools for the analysis of the surrounding of the different existing bus stops and the creation of site-specific solutions, based on a “catalog of ideas” providing selected functions and activities to be incorporated in installations specifically designed for each place.

26

IMPLEMENTATION: the analy sis wheel

The team devised an analysis wheel as a tool to approach the design of the different bus stops according to the characters of the site and its surroundings. The analysis focuses on 3 main categories: 1- Service facilities, concerning the practical facilities existing/needed in the selected bus stop (ie. practical facilities, sustainable measures, repair and maintenance options, sales and service functions and communication tools) 2- Safe environment, dealing with the physical layout of the bus stop and how it can provide the best possible waiting time. 3- Activities, describing the added facilities that can be included to improve the quality of the waiting time.

Seligmannsvej: approaching the slope in

a new housing complex in Vejle Project leaders: Julie Schmidt-Nielsen, Marc Jay, Thea Gasseholm Team: Baptiste Caill, Arianna Gori, Alexandru Pavel, Giovanni Simioni Status: Under construction

The project is located on a sloping

terrain (more than 20 meters in difference of height), facing south and oriented towards the panoramic view of the Vejle Fjord; the main aim of the design was, therefore, to guarantee the best possible view to each housing unit. The new edification is organised in three rows of 2-storeys houses, designed in three different sizes to fit the requirements of the client and provide alternative opportunities to different kinds of users. The project is currently in phase of construction.

2016 MASTER THESIS

U r b a n l a b o r at o r y for artistic production

in a former cement factory Supervisor: prof. archt. Andrea Grimaldi

’Cementificio Cerrano’ is a former

cement factory built in the first years of 20th century in Santa Marinella, a touristic sea town near Rome. The plant is disused since 1 942; it features some extremely interesting Art Noveau buildings and is, therefore, subject to historical and artistic heritage protection but is currently in state of abandon. The aim of the project is to return the site back to the city, improving the touristic appeal of the comprehensory through a both social and cultural destination. The new centre is designed to be an urban laboratory for creation, diffusion and production of contemporary art; the former labourer lodging is converted into a guest house for artistic residencies, the big bricked warehouse becomes a space for performing arts, the furnaces area hosts different “layers” of visual art exhibitions.
