Argyle Housing currently manages 2,700 properties across Southern NSW and the ACT. Argyle Housing has a well-deserved reputation for quality customer service and has good relationships with the Real Estate Agents that it leases properties from. It has had a presence in NSW and the ACT for over 39 years.
As a Tier 1 Community Housing Provider, Argyle Housing has access to the Community Housing Leasehold Program (CHLP).
The CHLP is a government program that funds us to head-lease properties from the private market to provide social housing.
We lease the property, as a tenant, from a private landlord at market value. Then we sublet to our clients who are selected from the NSW housing register for social housing or transfer from an existing social housing properties within Argyle Housing. Argyle Housing is financially strong but this specific program also receives significant financial backing from the State Government and a national regulatory regime which guards against Argyle Housing failing.
The Australia housing market has been facing a significant lack of housing supply in the rental market, caused largely by the economic impact over the last couple of years. It means that the demand for social and affordable housing has been increasing rapidly. While the demand rises, the Government simply has not enough supply.
As a result, there currently is a long waiting list for those who are desperately in need of social housing. In NSW, waiting time varies between 2-10
years depending on the area and individual demand. However, the data shows many areas across NSW has longer than 5 years waiting time.
CHLP can play a significant part in this current market. By securing more social housing supply from the private market, it could relieve some of housing stress our communities are under. By adding more supply to social housing needs, CHLP essentially contributes to create inclusive and resilience communities in our cities and towns.
