Chris-Craft, the epitome of beautiful boat design and sensational craftsmanship offering some of the most iconic and instantly recognisable American yachts in the world, celebrates its 150-year anniversary. While the contemporary Saxdor 270 scooped a Motor Boat Award in the ‘Sportsboats up to 30ft’ category –an incredibly prestigious accolade that truly celebrates the brand’s success in the small boats market. Greenline, a leader in hybrid technology, puts a firm stake in the sand with the luxury of silent boating – being at anchor whilst running appliances off solar power. And Wider Yachts celebrate the launch of the phenomenal WiderCat 92 and the WiLder 60 powerboat – see them at the stunning Cannes Yachting Festival 10th – 15th September. We also showcased the first super-stylish Italian Pardo GT52 in the UK at the British Motor Yacht Show and held our first display of Galeon Yachts at the much-loved Palma International Boat Show.

We’d like to thank IWC Watches for choosing Pardo Yachts and our Pardo 43 to celebrate their brand ambassador and British icon, Formula One™ champion Sir Lewis Hamilton. We were honoured to take him from Butlers Wharf along the Thames to their exclusive event held at JOIA Rooftop Bar at Battersea Power Station, along with presenter and DJ, Roman Kemp.

I hope you enjoy this magazine and wish you all a great season of boating. I look forward to meeting you at one of our upcoming events soon.

IMAGINE A JOURNEY ONBOARD A GREENLINE

45 COUPE – PALMA TO IBIZA

To illustrate the ideal application of the hybrid system, Greenline present a real-world example featuring a short journey aboard the 45 Coupe. Note that the consumption figures include not only marina manoeuvres but also the

use of onboard home appliances and air-conditioning in smart mode. This scenario was based on sunny days with calculations including solar kickback.

1. Undocking

In the early morning, the Greenline 45 Coupe yacht smoothly left the dock using its electric motor. After a quick fuel top-up at the fuel station, it continued its journey from the marina. The battery state 1-2nm off shore marina was at approximately 82%.

2. Switch to diesel mode

The 20nm journey from Palma to Andratx takes about one hour at an average speed of 20 knots. In diesel mode the electric motor turns into a generator and charges the LiPo batteries with an impressive 28 kW. After 15 minutes, the battery is already back at 100%.

3. Weekend stay at anchor

For this example, the boat is at anchor in the bay for 48 hours. All of the home appliances including the air-conditioning are in smart mode and running off the LiPo battery. Including the electric manoeuvring in the bay the battery is at approximately 10% 48 hours later.

4. Switch to diesel mode

Departing Andratx towards Ibiza, the Greenline 45 Coupe cruises to Ibiza using its efficient diesel engine. The electric motor turns again into a generator and charges the LiPo batteries with an impressive 28 kW. After the two-hour ride the yacht arrives with 100% battery.

5. Ibiza stay

Approaching beautiful Ibiza, switch into electric mode. The silence of the electric engine makes the entry into the bay seamless and noise-free. The Greenline 45 Coupe stays in the north of Ibiza for 48 hours. All of the home appliances, including the air-conditioning in smart mode, run off the battery. After the 48 hours, the battery is at 10%.

Welcome to the future of yachting.

SAXDOR ANNOUNCE GROWTH AND THE NEW 400 SERIES AT BOOT DÜSSELDORF

Saxdor Yachts held a press conference at Boot Düsseldorf to announce two more new models: a new flagship, the Saxdor 460 GTC, and the Saxdor 340 GTWA.

The event was held at the brand’s stand, with the new Saxdor 400 GTC on display for her World Premiere. Attracting great interest, the brand’s latest 40-footer boasts a complete offer for nautical families across Europe’s diverse climates.

With the flexibility to completely close the main deck with insulated glass for colder days, and to open it on warmer summer days, owners can expand their horizons and adapt to all weathers on board the Saxdor 400 GTC. These design features also contribute to excellent visibility, natural light within and a truly wonderful connection to nature. The Saxdor 400 GTO was originally launched at the Cannes Yachting Festival.

As the brand prepares to extend its range with the Saxdor 460 GTC and Saxdor 340 GTWA respectively, the Finnish brand is recommitting to its foundational pillars of value, performance and design. The announcement of these two new models, further demonstrates the growth of the shipyard, which is expected to see 100 million euros in revenue this year.

MOTOR BOAT AWARD WINNER

The Saxdor 270’s victory in the ‘Sportsboats up to 30ft’ category at the Motor Boat Awards by Motor Boat & Yachting magazine earlier this year is testament to the brand’s leadership in the small boats market.

‘Buyers expect a lot of a sportsboat these days,’ says Hugo Andreae of Motor Boat & Yachting. He adds, ‘Plenty of seating and sunbathing space, a wetbar to feed and water your guests, a table for dining, a T-Top to keep the sun off, a bed for overnighting and a heads for everyone’s comfort and convenience. The fact that it (Saxdor 270 GTO) can do all this while undercutting many of its key rivals on price is the icing on the cake.’

THE BRAND THAT KEEPS ON GROWING

Saxdor Yachts has grown quickly since 2020, expanding its team from 30 people to more than 500 in just 4 years. In the same period, revenue increased 15 times. Today, the brand’s production facilities cover more than 10,000 square metres, and are poised to double, ensuring the increasing demand is met by production output of its growing line of motor yachts. Having sold out of all its models available for 2024, the yard is consolidating the Finnish market by selling directly to consumers, while Saxdor’s global dealer network remains robust.

In June 2024, Saxdor announced the expansion of its production capacity with a new shipyard in Larsmo, Finland. The new facility marks a significant milestone for Saxdor, fully embracing Finnish boatbuilding skills and craftsmanship. The Larsmo region, with its reputation of boatbuilding due to world-class boat brands such as Baltic Yachts and Nautor Swan, benefits from a wealth of

experienced and skilled boat builders that inspired Saxdor to focus on producing its larger, high-end models there.

Saxdor is making a long-term investment in its Larsmo shipyard, with plans to create over 100 jobs. This move not only boosts local employment but also establishes Saxdor as a significant business in the region, fostering good collaboration with the Larsmo county, by supporting the local community and economy.

Erna Rusi, CEO of Saxdor Yachts, comments, ‘Besides additional production capacity to meet the high global demand, it also gives us the opportunity to have another innovation hub for R&D. At the same time, our shipyard in Elk, Poland, with its 10,000 sqm and 550 employees, remains integral for the company.’

PARDO GT52 MAKES HER UK DEBUT

Italian by design, the epitome of elegance, space and performance, Argo Yachting were delighted to premiere the Pardo GT52 at the British Motor Yacht Show in May 2024.

The innovative Pardo GT52 is positioned between the Walkaround and Endurance range, appealing to those owners seeking more space, comfort and interior accommodation whilst maintaining exceptional performance.

Outstanding features include; stern doors can be opened completely (similar to the Endurance 60); the swim platform is larger, for housing a tender or personal watercraft; and the roof on the GT52 has a semi-open mode. The cockpit dining and sunbathing spaces are extremely spacious, and the below decks space is more flexible.

An enclosed main deck provides shelter from the elements with a sliding roof and either a galley up or down option, with plenty of comfortable and stylish wrap-around seating to relax. While

the spacious exterior provides sunpads and seating forward and aft, the cockpit sunpad cleverly converts to a generous U-shaped dining area giving ultimate flexibility. The lower accommodation has an owner’s double ensuite cabin, a twin cabin and an optional single cabin. Standard engines are 2 x Volvo IPS 650 with the option to upgrade to Volvo IPS 700 or 800, reaching up to 32 knots.

Space, luminosity, elegance and comfort. The innovative concept of the Pardo GT52 stems from an idea to create a convivial boat that could best connect the sheltered interior with the exterior. The boat features considered solutions that maximize the comfort of life on board in Italian style.

CRUISING

SPOTLIGHT: PUERTO BANUS –GATEWAY TO SOUTHERN SPAIN

Situated between elegant eateries and designer boutiques on the famous waterfront at Puerto Banus, Argo Yachting’s office in Marbella enjoys a setting few dealerships in the world can match.

Headed up by Nick Case, a man with 35 years under his belt at sister company Princess Motor Yacht Sales, it’s also a company with a very firm grasp on how special it can be to own a yacht among the rich and diverse cruising grounds of southern Spain. Nick explains how operating a yacht out of Puerto Banus can be good news for your cruising adventures and your wallet, as well as ease of boat ownership.

NICK CASE AND THE ARGO YACHTING JOURNEY

Having started his yachting career as a broker in Poole in the 1980s, Nick progressed to head up a Princess Motor Yacht Sales dealership in Gibraltar in 1990, before moving across to Puerto Banus in 1994. That’s where he established the Marbella arm of Princess Motor Yacht Sales, a dealership that’s been established for 30 years, which he now runs in tandem with the Argo Yachting offering of Saxdor Boats and Greenline Yachts. When asked about the secret to his success, Nick is disarmingly straightforward in his assessment of what really counts: ‘It’s about making life for our owners as easy as possible. A lot of our clients are from northern Europe. When they finish their holidays and head home, they want to know that their boats are being properly cared for - so it’s not just about selling boats. It’s about the full package - advice, servicing, warranty and the aftersales back-up. It’s about the ‘all-inclusive’ approach that allows our owners to enjoy their boats without any stress, doubt or worry.’

In Nick’s case, ‘making life as easy as possible’ involves everything from servicing, cleaning and fuelling to mechanical maintenance, equipment upgrades, boat prep and even laundry. But that personalised service is clearly a key element of Nick’s approach to building client relationships that last. ‘We tend to build very close personal ties with our clients over time’ says Nick. ‘In fact, they’ll often ring me directly if they need help and that’s part of what creates loyalty. A lot of them have been with me for decades now – and I’ve watched their whole families grow up. Eventually, I get to see their children coming in to buy their own boats and that’s an incredibly satisfying thing to be a part of.’

Gibraltar

A FANTASTIC CLIMATE FOR BOATING ALL YEAR

One of Marbella’s greatest natural yachting assets is of course its climate. Nestling in the lee of the Sierra Blanca mountain range, it experiences an amazing 320 days of sunshine a year, enabling true four-season boating. And while the relative absence of coves and calas means that the immediate coastline around Marbella and Puerto Banus is best suited to day trips, its proximity to some amazing (and radically contrasting) destinations makes it one of the best yachting bases in the whole of Europe. ‘We’ve got Morocco just 36 miles away,’ says Nick. ‘You can go west, round the corner to Portugal - and a lot of boats, particularly the larger ones, will base themselves down here and then cruise the Mediterranean. They’ll go up to Mallorca or they’ll go further east to Croatia or Greece before coming back here for the winter. And the fact that we’ve got Gibraltar about 30 miles away means we have easy access to duty-free fuel, saving our owners about 50% on regular Spanish prices. We have numerous golf courses nearby and you can ski in Sierra Nevada which is only a 2-hour drive from Banus.’

But as Nick explains, if you’re a UK resident with a boat in Puerto Banus, Gibraltar’s position brings much greater financial incentives than just cheap fuel. ‘If you own a UK (non-EU flagged) boat, the Temporary Admissions Scheme means you can keep it in EU waters for 18 months without paying your 21% VAT. At the end of that 18-month period, you have to take it out of EU waters to reset the clock. But from here, all you have to do is steam into Gibraltar for a night and, just like that, you’re set for another 18 months of tax-free boating.’

SPAIN’S ATLANTIC COAST

As you head west from Gibraltar, with a tax-free boat and a tank full of half-price fuel, southern Spain’s Atlantic coast opens up a range of tempting destinations. Leaving behind the kite and windsurfing Mecca that is Tarifa, you will come to the ancient port city of Cadiz. Reputedly Europe’s oldest continually inhabited settlement, it’s a bustling place, mixing endless sandy beaches with a tangible sense of history and thriving maritime commerce. Head just a few miles further west and the Guadalquivir River then invites you 70 miles inland, providing direct access by boat to the famously seductive city of Seville. While its historic centre, its medieval lanes and its UNESCO world heritage sites are worth the trip in their own right, it’s the buzz of the place that really hits home. Whether you want to head for a traditional flamenco club, time your visit to coincide with one of the city’s many festivals or simply enjoy the infectious hum of al fresco diners among its ancient plazas, Seville is a major highlight in any cruising itinerary.

MOROCCO AND PORTUGAL

While Morocco might not be your first thought when putting together your cruising plan, Tangier is now more attractive to visiting yachtsmen than ever before. Its glamorous new marina puts you right at the heart of the town, in prime position to experience a wonderful clash of traditional rusticity and upmarket refinement. From here, if you want an even more intense Moroccan adventure, you can just grab a taxi, head inland and immerse yourself in a culture that provides a thrilling contrast to Europe’s mainstream boating scene. According to Nick, if you want to explore the Portuguese coastline instead, that’s an equally easy day-and-a-half cruise from Puerto Banus. The gorgeous resort of Vilamoura makes a great stop on Portugal’s south coast before you reach the historic port city of Portimão in the western Algarve. From here, after you round Portugal’s southwestern tip, it’s a clear run north toward Lisbon – one of the most dramatically beautiful coastal cities anywhere in the world.

MALAGA TO THE BALEARICS

Having undergone extensive redevelopment over the last few years, Malaga is now one of the top tourist cities in the whole of Europe. It’s a place of historical buildings, cosmopolitan bars and memorable restaurants, all elegantly linked via expansive pedestrianised streets and enjoyed by a vibrant mix of happy locals and international tourists. The waterfront is being developed now too, with two marinas in the pipelines, plus high-end facilities for visiting superyachts, so it’s a really fantastic place to visit. But if you want something more intimate and low-key, Nick describes Marina Del Este, a little to the west of Malaga, as ‘a superb stop for smaller boats, with a beautiful setting and lovely clear water for swimming.’

If you want to go even further around southern Spain’s Mediterranean coastline, Alicante and Valencia are both perfectly accessible and so are the fabled islands of the Balearics chain. According to Nick, ‘Ibiza is about 360 miles away and Mallorca is about 450 miles away, so within 48 hours you can be on location, cruising the Balearics. In fact, if you’re happy to take your time and run at displacement

speeds instead, it’s perfectly possible to do the trip in a 70-foot-plus boat on just half a tank of fuel – so it really couldn’t be easier.’

HOW TO WINTERISE YOUR YACHT

Motor Boat &

Yachting’s contributor and long-standing friend of Argo, Jon Mendez provides some words of wisdom.

For some owners the end of traditional boating season means securing it firmly either on its berth or ashore until next spring, others like to enjoy the calms and solitude of winter boating – the stillness when the weather is pleasing, the stunning sunsets and joy of always finding a berth. Whatever your choice, the boat will still need servicing and checks to ensure it’s in tip-top shape for next season. Most boaters tend to remember the obvious items, like engines and gearboxes and / or drives buts it’s the smaller tasks that get overlooked.

Fire extinguishers need to be removed and shaken if they are of the powder type, so they do not solidify, those hidden in engine, bow or stern thruster compartments need gauges, and service dates checking.

Fuel systems benefit from being left full of clean fuel, so water and condensation have little chance of making it deteriorate. A dose of fuel treatment added with your last fill-up can ward of any future issues.

Steering systems benefit from winding the wheel from side to side at all helms as it allows the oil to lubricate the parts, whilst also inspecting the fluid level and pressure.

All the seacocks will benefit from being exercised several times, it saves them from getting stiff, so consider closing those for systems that you will not be using.

Give the toilet systems a good flush – several times before emptying holding tanks and adding an environmentally friendly cleaner.

If you have aircon, check to see if the systems can be programmed to run a dehumidifying setting periodically over the winter period. If you don’t have aircon then adding some bar heaters on low via a thermostat to the engine room will help. You could also place a dehumidifier inside the accommodation draining outside the boat via a sink outlet. And keeping all the cabin doors open, allowing more air flow, will help keep it nice and pleasant inside.

If the boat is going ashore and there is any chance of a frost, then drain the fresh water system completely, not forgetting the ice maker as wind chill ashore can easily freeze pipes and cause damage.

Whilst hauled-out, antifoul can be attended to along with your stern gear, thrusters, and bathing platform, all of these have anodes so a check of the cathodic protection system is a must whilst there.

If all this sounds a bit complicated, then remember the Argo service and maintenance team will be happy to assist. Find out more: www.argoyachting.com/ownership

GALEON’S 440 FLY SCOOPS AN AWARD AND FEATURES IN MOTOR BOAT & YACHTING

Galeon’s popular 440 FLY was awarded a prestigious Yacht Style Award in the 13-15M Motor Yacht category in April 2024, further cementing her credibility as a leader in the flybridge sector.

Recognized for its innovative design, excellent performance and luxurious facilities, the Galeon 440 Fly stood out from its competitors. This award confirms Galeon’s commitment to delivering excellent designs with the highest quality of craftsmanship and strengthens the company’s position in the international arena.

The sleek exterior marks another collaboration with the esteemed Tony Castro Design Studio and is instantly recognisable as it follows the trends set by the fourth generation of Galeon yachts. A unique combination of a dynamic silhouette with sporty accents throughout is complimented by the large windows on both decks that illuminate the interior. A clear focus is placed upon practicality and versatility of all outside spaces to provide guests with generous options to relax, with ease to move around the yacht safely.

‘Galeon’s new 440 is a well-conceived and user-friendly boat with huge reserves of seating and a really easy drive.’

Below deck, 3 wonderful cabins accommodate 6 guests and they feature generous storage, full height wardrobe and an impressive 7ft head height.

Argo Yachting’s Bruce Hastie, Brand Ambassador for Galeon, hosted Motor Boat & Yachting’s Editor, Alex Smith, on board in Southampton for a sea trial.

‘As for the drop-down terraces themselves, they are really well judged. Such is their vertical elevation that they add a massive 7ft (more than 50%) to the beam when deployed; and when they’re raised, the fact they use large integrated glazing sections enables them to add plenty of security without blocking your view,’ says Alex Smith, Motor Boat & Yachting. He continues, ‘But that’s not the end of the main deck fun because when you step further aft, the hi-lo platform is lined at its leading edge with a big transverse wet bar. It’s optional

of course but with an electric griddle, a sink and plenty of work space, it provides everything you need for beach clubstyle fun, without forcing you inside to the main galley and without stealing any space from that all-important cockpit party.’

Aelx’s verdict:

‘Galeon’s new 440 is a well-conceived and user-friendly boat with huge reserves of seating and a really easy drive.’

Many thanks to Alex Smith at Motor Boat & Yachting

Nigel set up the Mallorca arm of sister company, Princess Motor Yacht Sales, 22 years ago in Puerto Portals, which is also now the main Balearics home of Argo Yachting.

Pretty much a local, Nigel enjoys the unspoilt remote island of Puerto de Campos with crystal clear sea, golden beaches and sand dunes.

‘I actually also like to visit the interior & north of the Island, it’s rather underrated, especially the historic walled towns’, says Nigel.

Having experience in automotive aftercare with Mercedez-Benz in Dubai, Tracy joined Argo Yachting seven years ago in sales and business development, and is often based in the Cala D’Or office.

‘On the weekends, my family and I love to take a drive to the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range for a scenic walk and lunch with fantastic views. I also enjoy the buzz of Christmas on the island and the Pollença wine festival in April,’ enthuses Tracy.

‘My favourite way to spend a day off is with my daughter at Cala Mayor beach or taking a boat out together and dropping the anchor at Punta Negra. I also enjoy cruising around to Sant Elm, and heading ashore to have an amazing lunch at Es Raor which has fantastic views and serves delicious food.’

JULIANO MEIRELLES SALES BROKER, BALEARICS

Juliano takes care of sales for Argo Yachting boats and is also the yacht manager for the Princess Motor Yacht Sales fractional ownership programme, YachtQuarters. Before joining Argo Yachting, he worked as a crew member on a yacht in Mallorca.

Gordon’s role is to make sure everything in the Marina Botafoc office runs smoothly, welcomes clients and generates sales. He also has a great working relationship with the on-site mechanic, Joel, who is an amazing addition to the team. Before life on the white isle, he was living in the South of France running a yacht refit and repair company for 13 years.

Gordon says, ‘A perfect weekend day is when we drive to the beach in my Saab Cabrio for a swim in the sea followed by a big lunch of Paella and Sangria.’

ALEX TILLY SALES BROKER, BALEARICS

Alex is a sales broker and previously worked on Mallorca in real estate before more recently finding his way into boat sales under the Princess umbrella in Sweden. He realised that it is much warmer in Spain and has recently moved back to Mallorca with his partner and young children.

ANNOUNCING THE LAUNCH OF THE WILDER 60

Delivering superyacht levels of custom finish and aesthetics in a thrilling performance package, the WiLder 60 is the epitome of boating brilliance.

This stunning design coupled with exceptional exterior spaces and exquisite interior styling has been developed to appeal to the wilder side of yachting.

‘The launch of the first WiLder 60 is not just a milestone for Wider and for the WiLder brand, but it also represents a leap forward in what a 60-footer can offer and how it can be built,’ says Marcello Maggi, at the helm of W-Fin Sarl, the holding company that owns 100% of Wider equity.

‘Everything about the WiLder 60 is extraordinary, from her 40-knot performance to her totally custom layout and finish.

This is superyacht-standard bespoke build offered in an 18.9 metre aluminium model, with zero compromise on quality for zero-compromise owners. There’s simply nothing else like her,’ Marcello enthuses.

The first WiLder 60 has been built for a European owner and her custom layout and finish has been completed to the owner’s exacting specifications. Coupled with the performance hull, which was developed by the naval architecture team at Wider Engineering, is an interior that features two twin guest cabins amidships plus an owner’s cabin forward. The living accommodation offers a saloon equipped with a designer galley and a U-shaped sofa around a dining table.

Interior touches include luxurious leathers in complimentary neutral shades, marble surfaces, cleverly conceived lighting and beautiful gloss finishes that draw on Wider’s extensive experience building some of the world’s finest superyachts. Sumptuous fabrics and refined materials offer a touch of elegance inside and on deck.

Up top, WiLder’s appeal is clear with a forward party deck, aft social deck with sunpads, an alfresco dining area, and a starboard helm. From here, the owner can enjoy the superb performance of the WiLder 60, propelled by twin MAN V8 1300 engines, achieving a cruising speed of 35 knots and a maximum speed of 40 knots.
