Children can read with an older teenager or adult and practice their reading skills and work towards their AR goals for school. The first Monday of the month Belle, the Therapy Dog, will be on hand to read with the children.

Artists Sought for ‘Art in the Stacks’ at BPL The New Friends of Bradford Public Library are looking for artists of all ages for their first “Art in the Stacks” event on March 29 from 6-8 p.m.

Art of any type will be accepted at the library no later than Tuesday, March 27, at 7 p.m. Judging will be held on the 29th and prizes awarded at 7:45. The Friends group is offering cash prizes of $25 for 1st place, $15 for 2nd, and $10 for 3rd, in two age divisions – toddlers thru 8th graders, and 9th graders thru adults.

Art will be on display throughout the library stacks until Saturday, April 7, for the public to enjoy. BPL looks forward to seeing your paintings, sketches, sculptures, stained glass, and textiles on display and invite everyone to come that evening for refreshments and fellowship in celebration of area artists.

The 2018 Covington Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday, June 2, 6 p.m., in the K-8 Building.

Once again, the football team will be there to assist people coming to the banquet.

Jim Meyer will be the Master of Ceremonies. Tom Dunn, Class of 1972, will be the guest speaker. Classes to be honored will be 2018, 2008, 1993, 1968, and 1958.

Covington Elementary will hold a Kindergarten registration and screening on April 11 and 12, from 8-11 a.m. and 12-3 p.m.

Any child who will be five on or before August 1 is eligible to attend Kindergarten.

Parents of Kindergarten age children are asked to call the elementary office at 473-2252 for a registration/screening appointment.

To register your child(ren), it is necessary for parents to bring their child’s certified birth certificate, record of immunizations, proof of residency, and custodial papers (if applicable).

••• The Bradford Railroad Museum will reopen the first Saturday in April and is open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They have just completed a $460,000 upgrade to help preserve the rich heritage of our Railroad Town. This is the result of a $350,000 Capital Improvement Grant from the State of Ohio and generous financial support.

Brukner Nature Center operates the largest licensed wildlife rehabilitation unit in the Miami Valley and awareness of this organization continues to grow. Last year, BNC’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Unit admitted 1,530 orphaned, injured, and sick native Ohio wildlife into their care for advanced treatment.

Thousands of staff and volunteer hours went into the care of over 86 species of wildlife from 26 counties in Ohio.

On March 25, the public is invited to take a guided tour of BNC’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Unit.

Learn what a day in the life of a rehabilitation organization is like, meet a wildlife ambassador that once was a part of the rehab program, visit with wildlife conservation groups such as Ohio Division of Wildlife, Ohio Bird Conservation Initiative, Barnes Wildlife Control, and Glen Helen Raptor Center, and enjoy refreshments.

Tours will take place from 2-4 p.m., with groups leaving every 15 minutes. Admission to this event is the donation of an item from the wildlife rehab wish list (available on BNC’s website).

OVPN Vernal Pool Workshop Offered at BNC March 24 Join the Ohio Vernal Pool Network (OVPN) while exploring vernal pools and the creatures that inhabit them on Saturday, March 24, from 9-4:30 p.m. The workshop will include presentations on the history of the Vernal Pool Network, introduction to vernal pools, macroinvertebrates, amphibians, and vernal pool flora.

Participants will learn about vernal pool exploring and citizen-science, and explore vernal pools at Brukner Nature Center.

Registration is required and includes a vegetarian lunch and the Ohio’s Hidden Wonders, Guide to the Animals & Plants of Vernal Pools. To register, visit www.OhioVernalPoolNetwork.org.
